This happens when I try uploading a theme on my self-hosted site, WP prompts for Connection Information. The information I put into the Connection Information form is:
hostname: 162.254.24.28
ftp username: carlarogers
ftp password: (not shown in WP forum)
Connection Type: FTPS (SSL)
I tested ftp login credentials with filezilla. Result: was able to upload file.
The error is Failed to connect to FTP Server 162.254.24.28:21
The thing I do not understand is the :21 at the end of the message. I suspect :21 refers to port 21. The reason do not understand that is in the connection information, I selected the radio button for ftps (ssl). My understanding is ftp over ssl runs through port 22 not port 21. My hosting provider says secure ftp with ssl runs only in port 22.
How can add my theme to my self hosted site in this situation?
]]>I’m having issues getting WP Rocket to work on my site, so I’ve inquired with them for some help. In order to assess, they need to gain access to my FTPS login. I was sent information from BlueHost for my FTP login, but this doesn’t seem to be helping. Can you help me confirm that 1) my FTP login is not specific to a certain IP address and 2) help me confirm my FPTS (or FTP) login credentials? I realize this information cannot be shared in public forum, but am not sure how to begin a secure conversation to ask these questions.
Any help is much appreciated.
Cheers
]]>It works in passive mode in plain FTP, however when i try to configure for explicit FTP it is unable to get past the passive mode.

It gets stuck in passive mode forever when I do not do plain FTP. I have configured the ports 21, 990, and 50000-51000 in both my network and computer firewall.
I have read articles about NAT firewalls and it may apply to me, but I have configured my network with filezilla to work on my external IP and on the custom port 50000-51000. A popular article on this topic is https://www.elitehosts.com/blog/php-ftp-passive-ftp-server-behind-nat-nightmare/ which seems to apply to me but I am unsure if I am able to do anything on my end at the server.
I’ve tested this on ftptest.net which returns positive for passive mode and explicit TLS.
]]>We’d like to setup WP for updating the theme. Today, we connect using Filezilla and a keyfile so that it’s more secure. When we go to the updating theme, it says:
“To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host.”
It does allow us to specify FTPS, and it gives the following fields:
Hostname
FTP username
FTP Password
Connection Type: FTP or FTPS (SSL)
However, there is no field for specifying the keyfile or path to keyfile. Does anyone know if it possible to do this? or we must update manually?
Thanks in advance
]]>This site is hosted on a cloud server (that’s my first time on a cloud server). This is the only info my client sent to me:
SSH & FTP access to VPS (CentOS 6.8)
IP: 104.236.21.126
user: root
pw: ******
In the connection page I put the following info:
hostname: the url of the site (also tried using the ip address as well)
FTP username: root@url of the site (already tried ‘root’ only)
FTP password: the same password as above
Tried both FTP and FTPS without success.
Any ideas on how to set up this so that the site will connect?
Thanks!
