when I open my “Plugins” page, I get the following error on top of it:
FTP credentials don’t allow to delete folder /var/app/current/wp-content/cache/db
and
W3 Total Cache Error: Files and directories could not be automatically created to complete the installation.
I then have two options:
– Either do the changes by myself via SSH
– or let it do W3 via FTP
The first option, doing it by myself, works at first, but after some time, it seems that my changes are beeing reset, because the error shows up again.
The second options isn’t doing anything at all.
I have looked through various posts and stackoverflow question, but I cannot find a solution that works for me.
Does anybody know what might cause my problem?
Thanks for your help!
]]>Only message I get from Updraft when testing the connection is “FTP settings test result: Failure: we did not successfully log in with those credentials.”
It’s the exact same credentials I’m using in Dreamweaver that connects just fine. I also have the FTP account page open and can see the exact info.
What do I need to do to connect?

W3 Total Cache Error: Files and directories could not be automatically created to complete the installation.
Please execute commands manually View required changes
or use FTP form to allow W3 Total Cache make it automatically.

]]>How can i install a plugin on localhost? When i want to install a plugin i keep getting the question to enter my ftp information, but i installed wordpress via localhost with xampp because i am changing my wordpress theme and don’t want my website to go offline.
Can you help me figure this out?
Thanks in advance.
]]>Yesterday I was initially not getting an error message, the system just stayed in maintenance mode… I got out by renaming wp-config and then naming it back. It takes a few minutes before this works–when I rename it and back again right away I get no change, but after a couple of minutes it works–every time. This is also the case if I rename wp-config and upload a clean copy isntead of naming it back.
Today I first get an error message and then it goes into maintenance mode–Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute. This is the pattern for all plugin updates and the one theme that needs updating.
Error Messages
An error occurred while updating Weaver Xtreme Theme Support: Could not create directory. …wp-content/plugins/weaverx-theme-support/
An error occurred while updating Weaver Xtreme: Could not create directory. …wp-content/themes/weaver-xtreme/
I wondered if this could be a permissions issue. The plugins folder is 775 so I changed it to 755 and it made no difference.
BUT I have also made a second wp-config with my FTP credentials added
– FTP_HOST
– FTP_USER
– FTP_PASS
because I’ve been having issues with a pro plugin and support said “It seems like WordPress does not have write permission on the server (when you install plugins, you are probably prompted to enter FTP login information).”
Yes, I always have to put in my user and password when updating and so I thought it would be nice to not do this anymore.
So I saved the original wp-config and made another for the edits. I’ve tried both wp-config files and both yield the same results. The new file seems to work regarding my FTP credentials thought, but could this be causing a problem? Or maybe I need to add more FTP info? Or maybe the edited file has nothing to do with my updating issues.
Oh amd this just seems odd, everytime I rename/and name it back or upload a clean wp-config in response to maintenance mode, I see that I have 1 item needing updating–though there are 5 and it will not show all 5 until I refresh the page.
]]>Stats: Ubuntu 15.10
Lamp: latest stack version.
WP: 4.3.1
Folder & File permissions:
owner: Myself – read and write <– my username, lets’ call it Johnny
group: www-data – read and write
others: read-only
I migrated yesterday from 15.04 to 15.10, and got this problem when I reinstalled Xampp. Today I installed a fresh copy of 15.10 with the Lamp stack, same results.
I knew something was very wrong when the WP install told me wp-config.php wasn’t there. I created one. The install went well, the basics work. But working from the dashboard will not allow me to work with themes and plugins.
I have no idea at all what the credentials should be. Hostname must be localhost, I’m working with Lamp. After that, I have no idea. I tried several FTP usernames and FTP passwords; no go.
I discovered I’m not the only one with this when looking for a solution. But so far nothings works for me.
I have to finish a site real soon, so a stop-gap solution with some kind of FTP credentials that work would help me out of a very tight spot. Or how to find that FTP username and password.
Thanks for any help.
