If the WP upgrade has changed the way Gutenberg assigns templates then this is huge and we need some warning! if your half way through a site build.
Additionally specific library blocks just wont show on the page front-end – Gutenberg is just not ready for production yet; its a shame but its just not there yet.
]]>In the new site editor, the ‘Front Page’ template includes the theme’s post query loop.
This does not appear when I load the homepage.
I’ve also added a ‘Latest posts’ element to the ‘Home’ page content item, just to see what happens.
The site loads the text elements from from ‘Home’ page and the ‘Front Page’ template, but none of the posts.
I’ve disabled all plugins.
Any ideas what might be causing this behaviour? Thanks!
I tried setting it to the default template, SEO the page and switching back to the Front Page Template. This does not work. When I switch back to the Front Page Template, all the SEO for the page is wiped away.
How can I optimize the front page using the front page template?
No SEO plugins works with this structure.

]]>I have inherited a site and am trying to fix a problem for them. As weird as this sounds, I have defined the home page in wordpress and defined that page to use a particular template. Yet the home page refuses to display some of the widgets call in the template. Using the same template, I defined another page as a test, and the widgets are all properly displayed. It is only when I take the exact same page and assign it to be the front page, the widget disappears!!
As an experiment, I cleared the cache and then completely deleted the template from the server, thinking now it should display some kind of default page, since the template file is missing ….and yet the page continued to display as before, without all the widgets.
Been two days looking for this and am going a bit crazy. Is there someplace in the database that I can see what home page file is being used and which template. Something is not matching.
Suggestions…need help!!!!
]]>1. I would like to remove (or be able to add specific images to each page) the header slider (under the header) for my sub pages. I have created a child theme and a custom page template, but, not being technical I can’t find the call for the slider (carousel). I have checked all the page templates, I looks like it should be in the content page? Please could you advise. I can’t provide a link to my site as am building it on my desktop.
2. The front page template, has a Read More button, which doesn’t seem to do anything – is it possible to edit (add a link) or remove this?
3. The search results page shows the 3rd text widget (on the right) in the footer, as centred text – should be aligned left as style for all the other pages.
Many thanks
]]>I am completely new to WP and currently following a guide to set up my first site from scratch locally on my desktop. I have arrived at the stage where i am looking to update the page layout (for my homepage to front page layout) but am unable to do so as the ‘template’ drop down is missing from the page attributes section on the page editor.
I am currently working with the ‘twenty sixteen’ default theme.
I have tried a number of updates to in the editor section (functions.php and page.php) adding the following code as advised on previous forums;
<?php
/*
Template Name: My Custom Page
*/
?>
This added the drop down but doesn’t seem to change any setting when selected, and as a complete beginner i’m unsure as to what to do next
Would it be possible for someone to outline a ‘dummies’ guide to rectify this situation please?
Any help would be very welcome and prevent me from going insane!
Thanks
Pete
