Cannot create folder

I can’t get BackWPup to work due to an error that says that a couple folders can’t be created. I went to the directory and created the folder with 777 permissions. Still didn’t work. I changed the destination for the backup to be on Dropbox and tried again. Still nothing. I searched the forum and google and only found instructions to do what I’ve already done. Can someone help? Thanks.

Trash Folder Not Created

Great idea Jordy – This sort of plugin is badly needed since the others all have bugs with 3.6 etc – and don’t seem to be supported any longer.

Posting this for information and marking status as not a support issue – something to look into for a future update maybe.

There’s a few bugs – they may be specific to the installations I’ve tested the plugin with. This is probably the most serious if users aren’t careful to test things before deleting a lot of files

The uploads/wpmc-trash folder is not getting created when deleting a file.
Checked this on 2 live sites, on different servers – the files just get deleted.

Both Apache 2.2.23, PHP version 5.2.17, MySQL version 5.1.70-cll

However, on a local host testing mirror for both these sites, the folder was created. (same local host server for both). Looks like the folder is only created when deleting a file, not when the plugin is installed/activated.

Must be something with the server setups (one is on shared hosting with Hostgator), the other may be mod_security settings.

There’s no errors relating to this in WordPress or server error logs.

1. Tried changing wp-content/upload/ folder permissions to 777 – made no difference
2. Tried manually adding the wpmc-trash folder – Files still got permanently deleted, not moved to trash folder.

Just as well I’m careful to test things first, and have backups

Quick heads up on other issues – (VERY SPECIFIC to the sites I’ve tried the plugin on)
Doesn’t recognize files attached to (some) theme custom content types (Gorilla Themes)
Doesn’t recognize files attached as open graph images (not in content body or featured image, and in special folder)
Also may be worth looking at for future updates.

Selecting folder shows up plugin error

I was wondering if you could help.

On selecting a folder to start organising media files a script error appears to occur with the following displayed;

SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character

Uploading Media: Unable to create directory

I’m getting the following error trying to install WordPress 3.3.2 for multiple users:

“Unable to create directory /virtual/etc/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”

or if I manually create the directory via FTP:

“The uploaded file could not be moved to /virtual/etc/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files.”

I have tried to install an older version (WordPress MU 2.9.2) but same issue.

I have however a regular WordPress blog (2.8 version) running on the same server without any problem.

NOTE: Changing permissions for folders to 777 or whatever doesn’t solve anything.

While searching through older topics I found the following explanation for this problem:

“Even though I had set permissions for folders to 777 there wasstill the same error of not being able to create/move file to uploads/2009 – it did not matter what I did – delete files, recreate them in FTP.

In the end I had to create the Folder w-pcontent/uploads (or whatever you want to specify it as in the misc settings page) manually in my DB manager (plesk)and NOT via FTP. This is due to the pache server creating the folder via FTP and not me – therefore different OWNER.

So in essence do not create the folder via FTP d it manually on your DB.

Phew. Sorted now I can do the simple job of blogging.”

Now I’d like to try if this works, however I have no idea how to create a folder using a database manager. Can someone help?
