I figured out the answer to this in my case but wanted to post it here for anyone else since the posts I see here refer to Security and Firewall plugins and my issue was related to using the 6g Firewall in my .htaccess file.
Remove the line below and it should fix the issue:
RedirectMatch 403 (?i)(~|
|< |>|:|;|,|%|\\|\s|\{|\}|\[|\]|\|)`
I found the issue here from a smart person named Dumitru Brinzan:
[FIX] All-in-One Event Calendar: Something went wrong while fetching events (403 Forbidden)
Something went wrong while fetching events.

]]>Very much appreciate your plugin, we have used it on multiple websites. Very useful.
We had a recent bug on selecting specific categories on the calendar view for one of our sites https://www.ptajohnmuir.com/calendar/
When a user selects a category from the dropdown, this error message displays:
Something went wrong while fetching events.
The request status is: 200
The error thrown was: SyntaxError: Unexpected token ‘<‘

Please let us know how we can fix the issue and have your wonderful plugin working seamlessly again.

Something went wrong while fetching events.
The request status is: 200
The error thrown was: SyntaxError: expected expression, got '<'
This happens when using the widget, selecting the date icon to list all events in that day and then selecting the Date link at the top of the calendar.
I have tried disabling security plugins to see if there is any conflict, but no difference.
Any ideas?
