I would like to be able to copy/download/export my entire Godaddy wordpress site to my testing server, and then be able to make changes to the site using dreamweaver and perhaps the WordPress login on my local system – and then be able to upload changed pages to the production WordPress site that is hosted on GoDaddy. It this possible?
I have tried “exporting” the site from Godday, and got an xml file, etc. I then tried “importing” that xml file to my local system, it kinda worked. Then I had to export two themes to get the correct (almost) theme and appearance. This did not give me the images i have on my production site, and the local site has a “funny” HelloWorld page, with the theme almost applied – and has added extra links to the home page but no images from the production site.
I know I have made a mistake – I can a get a replica of my production site on my local machine? How or can I use dreamweaver to upload changed files?
I like the product – but I see there is a learning curve here. I have searched for help on this but most of the posts I have seen deal with local installs only – not the traditional dreamweaver local/testing/remote server methodology.
Sorry for long post
Thanks

]]>Hi, I’m a real estate broker who currently has a www.remarpro.com website for my DBA Coto de Caza Real Estate (www.mycoto.com). I would like to duplicate the website onto a different url for my other DBA for a different city that I already have a url address for but haven’t done anything with yet.
Basically, I want the same design and theme, etc. as the original site, but want to change the city name and make the site specifically for the new city. I don’t want to have to start from scratch, as I’ve spent quite a bit of time tweaking the current website to how I want it.
I have some ideas on how to accomplish this, but would like to know what the best, most efficient way would be.
Thank you!
]]>my webhost installs its own version of wordpress for me. so I can see it in mydomain/wordpress. viewing with filezilla I see my wordpress in the left window and theirs in the right window. Of course mine has content and theirs does not. so can I just delete theirs and upload mine and that will work? Then is to change all the urls using velvet blues or something else.
I have also emailed my webhost asking about this but they tend to answer with not-too-helpful replies
don’t see a way to change the backup target location in backupwordpress plugin tho
not much point in trying to avoid a computer site crash if the backup is on the same computer.
I am on localhost on my computer not live on the internet if that matters.
thanks!
]]>The article says at one point: Create an export file. On your own blog, navigate to ‘Export’ and create a WordPress export file. This is a special XML files which will contain your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags.
I can’t find “Export” in my dashboard. Is it there, or does that mean to do that on my existing host?
Thanks in advance for your help.
