My current issue:
I am working with an existing domain, I bought a shared hosting (that I know, and I have used before), installed WordPress via cPanel, but now /wp-admin is a 404 not found page.
The domain still belongs to a Wix site, and the problem should be here.
It would be ok for me to leave the old website online for a week while I develop the new website on WordPress – but is this possible?
Or I need to deactivate Wix to get access to my wp-admin page?
Thanks in advance!
]]>So I was supposed to make a www.remarpro.com start all the way but I accidently thought wordpress.com was the same thing. So I created an account and an admin for the site joyregwan.com.
When I realized the mistake I got hosting from Bluehost and now I am trying to create an www.remarpro.com site but the site is pulling me back at wordpress.com insteed of letting me install the www.remarpro.com.
What can I do?
Should I delete my domain of joyregwan.com? How can I keep the same website name and use www.remarpro.com??
Please help me, thank you. When Installing wordpress from bluehost it says that the site already exists but I am not able to enter www.remarpro.com only wordpress.com.
Thank you
]]>I want to create a new Bluehost – WordPress website with the same domain. I set up a bluehost account using the ‘i have a domain name’ option – entering the existing domain. I then installed WP with the temporary URL.
Is there anyway to create this new Bluehost – WordPress website without changing the A record or anything else that will bring down the existing live webiste
Am missing something simple. Do i need to set up the new website with the local ip address? Or something along those lines?
]]>I am a Graphic Designer with no previous WP experience. I have been asked by a client to improve their website, which was created with WP and hosted by Foxbright.
Their current website is pretty bad (squished images, no organization/grid, mostly text). What is the best way for me to create a new WP site that will then substitute that site, but maintain their domain, hosting, rank, etc.? Should I request their designer/web developer’s access and modify the site, or is there an easy way to create a WP test site and then transfer it to their domain? If I create a separate site, do I need a different domain to even install WP?
I am looking for the most fool-proof way, as I have good design skills and am confident I can figure out creating a WP site, but no previous experience with it, and do not want to mess up my client’s site.
Thank you!!
]]>I’ve read the codex page on Moving WordPress but I am still unsure how to proceed, as that seems to deal with the process as if you have installed it on the old web host, and need to switch over. I’m installing on the new web host, but have no way to access it because the nameserver is still attached to the old host/site…which it must be, because the new site isn’t set up yet.
My initial plan was to install WP on the new host, telling WP that the url is what will be the destination url, so none of the links will be broken. But then to access the page, I need to trick my computer into going to a different url while working on the site, before I switch the nameservers. (e.g. like the instructions say here).
But then the person I’m setting up WP for won’t be able to see the page as I’m working on it, as she lacks the technical savvy to do any of the stuff in the link above.
I don’t think I can even set it up on the old host and then go through the fixing process when it is done (which would go along with the Moving WP codex page), because the old host is at Yahoo and they don’t meet the minimum requirements for WP install. Moreover, it seems odd to set everything up on the wrong host and move it later. It seems like it would make more sense to set everything up on the new host from the start, and change the nameserver when it is also set up.
Can someone point me to a page that shows what is industry standard in this situation? Do web designers just do the host trickery in the link above and just send screenshots of their progress to their clients? I know people are moving existing sites to new WordPress installs every day, so there must be some sort of standard operating procedure, yes?
]]>I want to be able to completely build, edit and populate a www.remarpro.com website without taking down the existing site, and only take down the existing website when the wordpress version is ready to go live.
I know I need to buy hosting before I can have access to the wordpress CMS (in order to create, edit, populate) but I don’t know how to do this without using the existing domain?
So, at the moment, I really don’t know how I can begin working on this site without causing any interference to the existing site? I know I need to purchase WordPress hosting in order to receive access to a wordpress backend editor but how can I do that without risking any problems?
I appreciate your help and time in advance!
]]>I wanted to install a further blog in a subdirectory mockfordphotography and followed all instructions – creating a separate SQL database, editing the wp-config file and copying a full extract of WP into the mockfordphotography directory.
My ooops moment has come when trying to now run the install.php file from a browser. Everytime I type what I believe is the correct URL to access the file I am simply bumped back up to the ShearsMockford.com file cannot be found page.
I am using both https://www.shearsmockford.com/mockfordphotography/wp-admin/install.php
and
https://173.254.66.119/mockfordphotography/wp-admin/install.php as we have a fixed IP but cannot get the file to run
I assume I am in .htaccess territory here but don’t really get how all this resolving works. Any help much much appreciated thanks
