List and Edit users

I want to create a Loop template that lists users and has a Edit button for a modal form to update the user profile.

I have a number of plugins with User Fields etc, but I cannot see how I might link them to the edit button.

Any ideas?

Hi, we have a site with many members and have lost the ability to add new users or edit the passwords of any users. This is recent, so may be a bug in the latest update? The site is only accessible to approved users, so very important to be able to add new members. Is there a way you can trouble shoot? I can give support a login.

Is it feasible to list users then edit them like you might do Posts?

I know they are very different entities, but it would mean more front-end capability.

Super Admin – Can’t Edit User Info

When posting a blog on our site, if I want to list the author of the blog as someone outside of our main team, I have to create a user account for them, and make them an author. When I create the user account, it only allows me to enter a username, which can have no spaces or special characters, and is uneditable.
If I try to go into the user account, and edit the info so it displays their name as their full name (in this case, Anna Harris vs. annaharris), when I click update, it comes up with a blank screen, with this in the url bar:

If i type enter on the url bar, with that in it, a line of text comes up that says invvalid user id.

After I navigate away from this screen, the edit doesn’t stick.

Other users have been edited before in our site, for the aforementioned purpose, but now I can’t edit any users.

Editors Cannot Edit Other Editors or Custom Role

Hello, I have allowed every capability for the Editor role pertaining to users; however, the Editor role cannot edit other Editors or a custom role I created that has the same capabilities as a Subscriber. Editors can edit Subscribers without issue but cannot edit Editors or the custom role Wine Club. I’ve even made Editors Level 10 with no luck.

The only other relevant plugin in use is User Switching which doesn’t actually control permissions/capabilities. Is it possible that the custom role created has special permissions somehow? I doubt this because it was created using Capability Manager Enhanced. Any help is much appreciated!

Restrict which user accounts and User role can manage

Is it possible to restrict which users a certain user role can edit/manage?

With my plugin I created a new role and gave that role the edit users capability which works fine. However, what if I only want this role to be able to edit certain users and display a wp_die message if they attempt to edit a user that they should not have access to?

Is there a hook that will enable me to do this?

multisite shows all users, not those just registered to the site

Only one thing that stops it working for me is that when you have a multisite setup where in the subsites you have specific users registered to that site only, I’d expect that the administrator could only see the list of users that are registered to that site only when I use the shortcode [wpuf-edit-users], at the moment you are showing all of the users on the whole multisite.

Does that make sense?

Great plugin, really handy, clearly you’ve put a huge amount of work in.

It seems to be working ok for my multisite install but maybe the behaviour of administrators isn’t what i’d expect it to be.

So I add the shortcode [wpuf-edit-users] so that I can have administrators edit the users on a page (great!)

The behaviour is that it seems to show all the multisite users when the user logged in is a super admin (network admin). However, for a site administrator (not a multi-site network administrator) I get the message “You don’t have permission for this purpose” for the shortcode.

Maybe this shortcode isn’t meant to be catering for multisites so much?

Not a problem if not, just curious for now

Editing on the fly?

Our site has many users (500 +) and our membership admin finds the built-in WP user management system bulky, cumbersome and slow, especially when bulk/multi actions are required over and above those permitted by the standard WP admin menu. I’ve made a custom list, using amrusers, which nicely displays the membership with all the fields that might need to be edited. I am now wondering if it is possible to edit these fields ‘on-the-fly’? Best way I can describe this is similar to the way one would edit an ordinary Excel spreadsheet. I realise there is an ‘edit user’ property that can be ascribed to a particular field or fields, but this just takes you back into WP’s lumbering user UI.

I hope I’ve described what I’m seeking to do adequately and that someone may have some ideas – would like to keep using amrusers for this purpose if at all possible, since it does everything else we want so beautifully. Many thanks for any assistance.

3.6 – Super Admin can't edit users

Since upgrading to 3.6, I am unable in Super Admin role to edit the user accounts on the site in any way. I am able to delete them completely.

Error message is “You do not have permission to edit this user.”
