Hi,

We have set up the Polylang plugin on our site and activated the ‘Detect browser language’ setting of the plugin. We intended to redirect users to a specific language page based on their location. However, it’s not working as expected. We’ve also configured WP Rocket for caching and cleared the cache, but the issue persists. We have configured those settings using the Polylang documentation.

Hello,

we have the following problem: we have one homepage in English and another one in German. We would like to set it so that the language is set according to “detect browser language”. However, when we enable this, all visitors (no matter what language) are redirected to a fixed German URL, which is even not the German homepage, but another page on our website. When we deactivate “detect browser language” everything is normal and the correct website is displayed.

How can we change this? And where can we change the settings of the redirection to the corresponding page?

Hi Support,
I have a question about the “Detect browser language” setting.
In the documentation about this option I read: Polylang sets a cookie for returning visitors to be redirected to the homepage in their last browsed language.
I’m afraid that when I activate this option the search engines will also get a cookie and thus not index the pages in the other languages?

Has anyone else tried this? When Detect browser option is enabled when I choose a different language than browser, leave the website and revisit the browser language is shown again instead of the last chosen language.

Do I need to show URL language information for default language if I want to enable Detect browser language? Because if I enable Detect browser language and have Hide URL language information for default language enabled, I get redirect from secondary language homepage to wordpress login page.

I am assuming I need to because I found this:

“Note: If you don’t want any redirection to occur, you must deactivate the browser preferred language detection and hide the default language code in URLs by checking the relevant option in the URL modifications settings.”
but I am not sure if it goes the other way around.

If I have to show URL language information for default language, I am thinking all my links will change, and I have posted them to several places

Polylang setting have an option “Detect browser language”, if its enabled? Then on 1st visit on the home page, its auto-select language from browser’s preferences language list. But this not work if the visitor visit to any page excluding homepage. How to achieve it? In short, I want to auto select browser language for a post or page also

Latest version of WP and Polylang, the Detect browser language module is on but doesn’t seem to be having any effect. Both Australian and English users end up viewing the English home page:

I just updated polylang and it seemed to have corrected my problem.
My permalink setting are post name.
My home page is not static.
polylang settings are: The language is set from content
Remove /language/ in pretty permalinks

I edited my english home page permalink to end with https://www.mywebsite.com/en/
(my site is not live , i have a under construction page up)?
when i check Detect browser language it seems to mess everything up and my home page won’t load? I would like that my site would load in the same language as the browser preference.
I feel like i’m doing something wrong and it’s fluke it’s working cause i’ve been at this all night..lol. I’ve tried opening up the site in different browsers it lands on the english home page in one and the french page on another?

"mqTranslate Cookie Test" breaks browser redirect

Hi guys!

I have enabled “Detect Browser Language” under Language Management. Hovewer i found within the cookies list a cookie that breaks the browser redirection, called “mqTranslate Cookie Test”.

If this cookie does not exists, the browser executes the proper redirect. Once installed, the browser returns a 404.

Am I missing some step to make this function work?
