So when my front page started to look wonky and my archives page blew up (i.e. began displaying all posts including tweets), I knew something was amiss.
I dug into the database and discovered that my “status” category had changed IDs. That would explain the archives page debacle. Located the new ID, plugged it into the PHP query filter, and all was well.
But.
Even though my default post category is set to “status” on the Writing Settings screen, my tweets were coming up with no category. When I changed the default category away from “status” and to something else, my tweets started coming in as a completely different category than the one I had chosen (“reviews” instead of “snippets”).
I’m going back in my brain, though, and recalling that when I write an actual post (rather than a tweet automatically being pulled in), and I forget to choose a category, it does post in the “reviews” category. So, I guess that’s been my default category all along? (Chalk that one up to Not Enough Of An Annoyance For Me To Have Done Anything About It.)
In any case, the default category selector doesn’t do anything. I’ve left a couple of the tweets in question in the category that they posted in, to show the issue.
Maybe this is also a Twitter Tools plug-in issue? But if it is, I think it’s secondary to the main problem of my default post category.
]]>I created a category for announcements in English but not in French (the Announcement category).
I use the Content View plugin to create a view on my front-page of the most recent post in that category, and it shows up on both the English and French home page of the blog. Exactly how I want it.
Somehow, I don’t know when, something created a French equivalent called Uncategorized with the slug uncategorized-fr. This has broken the behaviour I was relying on – on the French home page there no long any announcements because it is looking for posts in the Uncategorized category (instead of falling back to the English category Announcements)!
Worse, I now have two Uncategorized categories!
And most worst, the original Announcements category and the mysterious Uncategorized category are both read-only: I can’t un-link them and I can’t delete them!!!
How do I fix this? How do I get back to have only an English Announcements category with no translation? And how do I prevent this from happening again?!
Thanks,

]]>Iam using a specific category say “XYZ” as ‘default post category’. The problem Iam facing is when I use the categories widget, it shows XYZ(5) meaning there are 5 posts with XYZ category where as there are no posts againts “XYZ” category. Is this count showing the trashed or delated posts ?
What can be done so that correct count is reflected ?
This problem is not with only with category that is set as ‘default post category’ under ‘Settings–> Writing’.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
