I’ve selected “use custom 404 template from the active theme”, however it show “There has been a critical error on your website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions” error page
I’m currently using Elementor Pro with Astra theme.
Can anyone help/guide me to make the custom 404 page work please? Thanks!
]]>I have a custom error page and in the settings of your plugin I have it set to do a 301 to existing page and the selected page is “error page”.
When I run this through Chrome Dev Tools, in the network tab, when I initiate an intentional URL error, it does bring me to the custom error page, BUT the header status is “200 ok” – and the header status should be “404 not found”.
I am using the free version of the Astra theme. In it’s 404 template it just simply calls up the default header (ie. get_header(); ?>).
What is the best way to remedy this, please?
– custom coding in your plugin?
– custom coding in theme 404 template?
– custom function?
– error handling via .htaccess?
EDITED TO ADD: I’m running PHP 7.2.12 with FPM application served by Nginx on this site.
Whichever way is best to remedy this to set the correct “404 not found” header status, I want to be absolutely sure that I am still receiving broken link notices from your plugin.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide on this

I have mediocre coding knowledge so I need your help people.
Thanks!
PS: Also, would you like to recommend anything more than I mentioned for the 404 page?

I have my child theme installed and I’ve created the 404.php file. I haven’t even got to the sidebar bit yet, as when I try to access a page that doesn’t exist I get the correct custom error message but my footer is all over the place – the 4 footer areas have disappeared and each footer area content is now stretched across the full page.
Here’s my site: https://anyoldlights.co.uk
Any advice greatly appreciated.
]]>I have been trying to figure out how to create custom background image for 404 error page without using a plug in. I have checked out several tutorials, but haven’t been lucky enough to find one that will help me achieve this or do additional styling without the help of a plugin. Any ideas? Here is what my current 404 page looks like.

]]>I’ve installed this plugin some weeks ago, but it didn’t ever work at all.
Okay, I could try to switch to another plugin, but that would be LAME!
I try to understand the reason, WHY it isn’t working and I want to help, so other users don’t run into this problem, too.
Take a look at g00fy-online.de (my main web project), but don’t try to read it .. except you are capable of the german language or own a good translator tool! I like to use a custom 404 page, because I don’t want to edit the WP2k14 theme files (which no one should do).
If I enable the plugin and keep the default 404.php template page, everything works fine: invalid URLs get redirected to the default template. I don’t like this one, so I’ve prepared another page, which I selected to be used in the corresponding dropdown menu in the WP backend.
Now, when I open a non-existing page, it still shows the default page title, the menus and theme .. but no text anymore!!
How could this happen?? Is it perhaps related to the missing closing tag at the end of the plugin source code? Have I done something wrong? And why is the rum gone??? (just kidding!)
I don’t know, but I guess, you can help!!
Side note: I’m hosting my own small vServer, so I’m able to “dive deep” into any system, if necessary!
Greetings
