If you paste into tools like Evernote (and elsewhere), the source of the content is automatically pasted as well – either into the body below the content or into a separate data field.
If we paste excerpts from various articles into WordPress, we shouldn’t need to double that part of the work, going back to the source and this time copypasting the url. It’s very minor if we’re only doing this a dozen times, but if you do it a hundred times, you wonder why WordPress doesn’t automatically do this / give it as an option / why there’s no plugin for this.
Thoughts?

I can copy and paste from almost any website into Evernote or Gmail and the formatting either stays exactly the same or almost all the same. Why is most formatting lost when pasting into WordPress (Gutenberg editor)? How does Evernote and Gmail retain/use the source CSS?

If I wanted to make it possible for pasting to preserve formatting, any idea how?

User wants to post a commentary/analysis about some webpage, e.g. a Facebook user’s public post and its comments. Ideally the original formatting of that webpage is retained.

Copypasting into WordPress loses all formatting.
The “Press This” plugin loses all formatting – different users comments (and their metadata) all become one continuous run-on string
Screenshots don’t let readers easily quote text excerpts, and text in screenshots is missed by many/most search engines.
Evernote Webclipper retains most of the formatting.*
Copypasting into Gmail retains most of the formatting.**
Specific to Facebook, using WordPress’ “Embed Facebook” tool includes only the post, not the comments. Facebook itself has/had tools, but they have been removed or are very limited.***
Save as html (complete webpage) creates a local html file plus a folder with images etc.
Save as mhtml (webpage, single file) creates a local mhtml file including images etc.
The last option seems to be the best option that retains proper formatting and all the images.

I searched wordpress Plugins and Support and www.remarpro.com in general, but found only a few results, and from what I could see they don’t even mention mhtml.

How can an mhtml file be brought into a WordPress site?

The new editor is a nice try, but the following flaws render it useless for the moment:

1) it cannot handle Previews properly (looses content, redirects back to the wrong place)
2) it is trying to carry formatting with it regarding text you copy & paste – this is simply unwanted most of the time and it should not be default, alternatively a STRG+ALT+V should copy the content without formatting – I’d call this a standard.

Just my 2 cents.
Apart from that WP5 runs without problems.

Whitespaces are being ignored during copy/paste

Hi everyone,

I have an issue with my blog, which I noticed after I updated to 4.8.

I have a technical blog, and I often paste commands outputs samples to my post. Recently my editor started ‘ignoring’ my formatting – with whitespaces/tabs characters during pasting the output. To give a better understanding of my issue I have recorded a short video:

Do you suffer similar issue with your instances? I’d appreciate all suggestions.
I’m using TinyMCE Advanced, which I also updated to latest version (however when I observed the issue, my plugin was still in older version, so this ‘plugin update’ was not definitely a root cause).

Pasted pinterest total shares and pin not showing after pasting

Is there a simple way with Add To Any to update Pinterest – or any other social stats – which has been copied and pasted into a new WordPress page?

After copying/pasting content from existing static html web site to a page in a new WordPress the Pinterest onlys show the text number of shares and not the share button.

The Pinterest share button and total shares is placed under an image.

The code in the pinterest sharing button refers to the existing web site obviously. I did a search here and didn’t see anything matching what I need, but I could have missed it.

Hi: I’ve just updated the forum to the last version and suddenly it doesn’t allow me to copy and paste some text within the post text.
I need to copy some very extensive materials for my students (and don’t want to upload them into pdf, it’s more unpersonal and unwellcoming than seeing the material written on the post)

What has happened? How can I return to a version where I can copy and paste? Just last week I did it and it was ok.

Copy & Paste

Following one of the updates, we noticed that the right-click context menu no longer has a copy/paste option. Keyboard shortcuts still work, but for some of our employees, it is tedious when bouncing between a word document and a new blog post window. A majority of us are using firefox, but the copy/paste option doesn’t appear in other browsers like chrome or safari.

Why is this? And is there a way to restore that option?
