Changing placeholders of comment section and more

Hi there,

I have an issue which consists of three separate but probably related ones:

1.) Under “Settings” and “discussion” you can set the requirements for a user to enable them to post a comment. However, even if I untick the box “Comment author must fill out name and email”, those two fields still contain a “*” which indicates to the user that they would still need to fill in those fields.
Also, when I try to post a comment (as a normal user) the site simply scrolls to top wihout there being the normal message “Your comment is awaiting approval” (while the approval option is enabled). The comment appears after it has been approved though.
Do you know how this can be corrected? (The box is currently unticked so neither name nor E-Mail are required.)
Unforunately Troubleshooting does not work (as far as I know) since I need to stay logged in to see the via troubleshooting enabled frontend. However, to see the aforementioned comment fields (name, e-mail, website) I would need to be logged out.

2.) Would it be possible to only set the “name field” as a requirement instead of “name and e-mail”?

3.) Is there a functioning way to replace the placeholder text in the comment fields (E-mail, name, website)? I found some code in this thread

but all it did was disable my ” Show comments cookies opt-in checkbox, allowing comment author cookies to be set” option. The thread is closed which is why I am unable to post my question there.

Comment system bug?

I had to fight a lot of spam and malicious trackbacks and pings. I deactivated trackbacks and pings and installed akismet and modded my .htaccess. It stopped the spam efficiently.

So whats the problem? The gui tells me there are 19 comments which need moderation and 130 comments in the spam folder. It is not possible to delete the comments and to delete the spam. I also cant find the comments, trackbacks and pings on the article. They are coded beyond my admin access, or the spam destroyed my wordpress installation.

I am new to WordPress. To get started I imported all of my posts/comments from Blogger. Everything seemed fine, but the comments were all assigned to the wrong posts. Now, when new comments and posts from admin are posted on my WordPress blog, they are also placed under the wrong post. Under my comments tab in wp-admin dashboard, these same comments are all assigned to the wrong post, leading me to believe this is not a theme issue, but rather a WP problem.

So as not to confuse my readers, I have taken off my comments, but you can see how they are set up on each page by going here: https://tendusunderapalmtree.com/2011/05/questions-with-bart-ii.html. The theme I am using is Maparaan.

Particular comment getting “post not found”

A visitor tried to leave the below comment but gets a “post not found” when trying to submit at my website at www.musiclibraryreport.com. I have tried this on two other wordpress sites I have (www.munsongrecords.com and www.over50music.com) and get the same results. The weird part is if I take the word “to” out of the comment (after “aiff files”) or substitute another word, the comment will submit properly. Here is the comment that is causing the problem (between the dashes).

There is contact info on their website. Email, introduce yourself, and ask if you can submit and what the submission guidelines are. They have a nice system whereby you upload aiff files to their FTP site. If they are accepting submissions, they will send you guidelines on how to upload. There is contact info on their website.

Comments get assigned to the wrong post.

Whenever anyone including admin leaves a comment it gets assigned to a different post. It happens on all the posts on my site. The weird thing is it will still show up on the correct post page but when you leave a comment it goes to the old post with no comments. If you go back to the page you will see it. In the wp-admin dashboard you see the comment assigned to the wrong post in comments tab.

I tried using another theme and it didnt fix anything. I also installed some database repair plugins and they did not fix the problem. I think it may be my functions.php file is messed up?

I really would love help fixing this, I have my blog where I am happy and it is a business blog so I really need it working correctly! Thanks so much for the time and support you put into the wordpress community!

Hi. I have moved to another server and upgraded my blog (at the sametime) but now, the page gets a lot of time loading, cause it loads a single comment each second.

all works on the blog fine except for that.
i have tried too wp-cache, but it didnt work. the main page works great, but the posts with comments delay loading a lot!!
if you can help me, or have some idea of this, please post. thanks!
