I don’t want to remove the error message and am not looking for a way to fix it.
It seems unprofessional to me for a client to receive a “Cheatin’ uh?” message.
So I would just like to know how I can change the text of the error message (and possibly its translation).
Thank you very much!
]]>I’ve actually never seen this before. I disabled the User Role Editor and it goes away. The odd thing is that I am logged in as the administrator — so I would think I have all rights, right?
Any thoughts on why this would be and if there’s a way to get around it?
Thanks.
]]>cheatin’ uh? sorry, you are not allowed to access this site.
However we can create new categories, and edit them fine.
Any suggestions on where to look?
I can re-log back in but this is super annoying. Is this a bug with WP 4.9?
How do I work around this?
]]>In the latest WP version several core files had been changed (medialibrary-uploader.php for example) and now some templates stopped working properly and started presenting this error to the site guests and even admins. I found an explanation on the net that if such an error appears then probably the theme is using a customized version of slightly modified options framework. To avoid this error the user would have to make changes to WP core files which is a very bad idea.
I sent a note to my theme developer but he claims it has nothing to do with his theme but rather a voting system. Please check if it is not the case.
]]>I am receiving this error “Cheatin’ uh? You are not allowed to customize the appearance of this site.”
I am able to login in successfully using CAS, but get this error after I click customize in appearance. When I disable the cas cassify plugin, it works fine.
I am using WordPress version 4.5.3 and I got the same problem with version 4.5.2.
Any idea why I am receiving this error?
Thank you,
Rusul

]]>I have done the following to try to troubleshoot, but without any success. After each step listed, I tested and am still getting the “Cheatin’ Uh?” message when I link to the customizer page (both through the “Theme -> Customize” menu item and through the Divi -> Customize link, when I still had Divi loaded):
I’m pulling my hair out with frustration on this one. I can usually troubleshoot pretty well, but this has me ready to scream at the walls. Any direction or suggestions gratefully appreciated.
]]>I have done (or rather my techie husband has!) the following, based on a list we saw posted when we googled the error message:
– deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem – made no difference
– If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the unedited default Twenty Fourteen Theme – made no difference, still does it regardless of which theme.
– If that does not resolve the issue, try resetting the plugins foldervia FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completely removed or some plugins stick around in cached files. So by renaming the folder, you break them and force them inactive). – again, made no difference at all.
– If all the above steps do not resolve the issue, then try MANUALLY re-uploading all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first!
– running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php
So, um, help! What do I try next? I’ve tried multiple themes, including the WP standard ones. I’m running 4.4, if that changes anything?
I’ve tried deleting all the plugins, and then trying the twenty sixteen theme, and I get the same thing…
