It’s time for a new website design as the developers of my current theme no longer offer support. So I shall move over to a Divi theme.
I understand very little about the technical side of my website in terms of the host cPanel / file structure etc.
I understand that I need to create a staging site to safely design a new website design. I have a few questions:
I hope all that makes sense. I’m really worried I will lose everything if I get this wrong and the existing website has had months and months of work put into it.
Many thanks
Ross
]]>Since I would have to make changes to the new theme, that might take longer than I think. What would visitors to my website see if the new theme is immediately activated, and I am still working on it and the old one is deactivated?
I have 2021 theme now and am thinking of using 2023 theme.
]]>I have no idea what will happen when I change themes though. I haven’t done it before. Now though I’ve got 50 posts and pages and 20 plug-ins so I’m worried about causing a disaster that takes a week to repair.
If I decide to change back, will all my settings still work just like before, or do I have to back everything up and then restore them myself? NB I know about the danger of putting code in theme files – the only piece of code I have added is the new GA4 code, so I’ll be OK with that.
Take the change to Twenty Twenty-one: will I need to configure everything in the Customizer, like the menus for example?
]]>I would like to change my theme, but every time I try, my original blocks turn into 1 block and the layout becomes narrow. Nothing I do allows me to make the one block full width, nor can I keep the blocks separate when I try another theme.
Is there a way around this?
Thanks,
Inez
1. Happenstance places widgets along the side, as well as at the foot, of home page. Live preview of both twentytwenty and twentyseventeen shows widgets at the bottom. Is that a function of the ‘preview’ mode or what the page will look like? If I want a widget on the side, can I get it there, maybe with block editor? Or do I need to find a theme that does that for me?
2. If I move a page from being a parent page to be a child of another page, what happens to the links on that page? For example: https://journeysintolight.org/awakening-to-the-larger-life-2/
3. Mobile theme (on all themes) doesn’t use the image I’ve placed at the top of my desktop page. Rather, it uses an image taken from one of the ancillary pages, to wit: Crop Circles. How do I rectify that?

]]>It looks like Powerpress is not installed but it is when I look at installed plugins — it shows as ‘activated’.
Any ideas?

]]>I’m changing my theme on my recipes’ blgo because I need to improve some things (responsiveness, for instance). I want to buy a theme that seems to have everything I need (CakeArt), BUT it automatically includes a slug in the recipe posts and the urls will look like this: blog.com/recipe/whatever-the-recipe-is.
The problem is that I have over 150 recipes already, and I don’t want to lose their SEO weight. How could I do it?
– Is it possible to remove that slug via code and still have the recipe post type?
– If not, what should I do? 301 redirect on every post?
Thanks a lot!
