How to change permalinks?

Hi I have a strange issue, trying to change permalinks.
I just started with wordpress, have been building a new version of my old website, which was on a different host. dari-rulai-temple.org
So I get a wordpress optimized hosting account at bluehost, and start building my site. These guys told me I have to have a domain to do anything so I registered a temporary one. drt-temporary.org
OK no problem, so I build my first wordpress site, looks good enough to go, so I change the dns settings on my domain dari-rulai-temple.org to point to my new hosts nameservers, and the site looks like its loading fine.
Except, I cant get the site to switch over to my domain of choice. The temporary domain was just that, temporary.
I tried changing the wp_options database, but even though I was able to change the domain, it doesnt seem to make a difference on my site.
Anyone know how to change the permalinks to a completely different domain?

Arne, thanks for your work, I’m not a techie. I read sticky post, TOO COMPLEX! I get 404’s as I changed original post urls to drop date, to just show post title. YES i changed it in permalinks, and all Google error are sitemap still leading to old posts written like: https://yogablissdance.com/2010/04/detox-from-winter-blossom-into-spring/, they are now to be found here: https://yogablissdance.com/detox-from-winter-blossom-into-spring. I DID CHANGE PERMALINKS AND SAVE. LOOKING INTO sitemap it appears urls are correct so not sure why this is happening!
SHOULD I GO INTO HOSTING ACCT, and do redirects?? PAIN AS THERE ARE LOTS OF THEM.

Change Permalinks: Post content regular expression

Thought I’d share this solution for updating links in posts after changing the permalink structure. I search the web for hours looking for the correct regular expression and figured it out by using the Yoast .htaccess redirect rule.

I changed my permalink structure from “Day and name” to just “Post name” in WordPress and setup the .htaccess 301 redirect described by Yoast.

That left nearly 1000 post content links across hundreds of posts that referenced the old “Day and name” URL format, e.g. https://mysite.com/2012/03/05/sample-post/

The following Search Regex regular expression updated the post content URLs to the new “Post name” permalink structure:

Search pattern:
#https://mysite.com/([0-9]{4})/([0-9]{2})/([0-9]{2})/#

Replace pattern:
https://mysite.com/

Include the www if your primary domain is www.mysite.com

The post link search and replace worked perfectly and saved countless hours of work!

Addititional images in pages after changing Permalinks to postname

At the recommendation of a post elsewhere regarding a problem with NextGen Gallery uploads not working, I changed my Permalink settings to postname from the default. This caused a large number of issues as now all of my images were lost.

I have almost everything back but I noticed some of my pages such as my home page have extra images that appear to be left over, i.e they were inserted into the page earlier, but then deleted when I lost my links to the images. I have edited the pages but cannot seem to find out where the extra images are coming from.

Take a look at the home page on my site.

Scroll down to the bottom of the home page and you will see 3 extra pictures that should not be there!

Change my permalinks to show the page name

Hi everyone!

I have spent more than 3 hours trying to find an answer to that, but no luck!

I have a website built with WordPress. I’m not going to use it as a blog, so all my pages are static. Because of that I also want to set my permalinks to show the page name as shown in my navigation.

I have tried by using the ‘Custom’ option and adding the ‘/%postname%/’ there. The problem is that it doesn’t pick up the page name as shown in the navigation. I’m not even sure what is that it picks up!

Then I tried to fix it by going to each page. After the change I have an option next to the permalink for ‘Edit’. I clicked the button changed the name to the one I needed, but then when I tried the ‘View Page’ I got a 404 error page.

I run out of ideas.

Please help!!

Will changing my permalinks hurt SEO?

I would like to change my permalinks to sitename/postname from sitename/year/month/date/postname.

I’m going on the advice in Yoast’s post on SEO.

Before I do this I want to make sure that it won’t hurt my search engine traffic and many backlinks to older posts.

I have about 300 posts over 5 years, with maybe 20 very popular posts that I wouldn’t want to lose traffic to.

Is it safe for me to make this change? Is it advisable?

Permalinks Aaaargh!

I have built a site – it’s pretty huge see it here.

I built it using ugly permalinks and now need to migrate it to pretty ones (%post-name%), the problem is that the site is full of readmore buttons etc all linked to the relevant sub pages and pretty permalinks seems to break these button links.

I have tried a number of plugins (yoast SEO & Custom Permalinks) to no avail. I sam “Search and Replace” being suggested, but don’t understand how I could use it to acheive what I want.

Is there a solution to this, there are literally hundreds of internal links so changing them one by one would be a nightmare.

Help with permalinks please!

I’ve been in the process of transferring my website/blog from wordpress.com to a webhost with www.remarpro.com. In order to make sure my site never goes down, I kept it up on wordpress.com while I worked on it on my new webhost on a temporary name (www.thunderpricescom.ipage.com).

Now I’m ready to make the full transfer over to the new host, but I’m not sure how to change it from thunderpricescom.ipage.com to ThunderPrices.com on wordpress before I put the domain on the right nameservers. I was told I had to do it in permalinks, but I’m not sure how.
