My site is working fine until I installed Smush and tried to bulk optimize the site. That was when I got a message:

Your site seems to have an issue with loopback requests. Please try again and if the problem persists find out more here.

(BTW when I clicked on here, it just returned an article explaining how to use Smush with nothing about loopback requests)

That was when I went to Site Health and found the message:

Your site could not complete a Loopback Request

Below is this message:

The loopback request returned an unexpected http status code, 405, it was not possible to determine if this will prevent features from working as expected.

I am using a VPS server with Nginx and Ubuntu 22.04

Bulk Smush not Working (Loopback Requests)

When I do a bulk Smush, I get this error:

I tried it again and it still doesn’t work. When I click on the link, it just went to a documentation page with no tutorials on troubleshooting.

I also tried deactivating all my plugins and it still doesn’t work

BTW, I am using a VPS with nginx on Ubuntu 22.04.

Why can’t I smush at all with free version?

i installed smush for free and am trying to bulk smush, even though i can only do 50 at a time. when I click the bulk smush button i am brought to the settings page. I’m confused. I thought with free i could still smush, just a smaller number at a time. why does it seem i need to upgrade?

There is a problem with every original file in the upload directory. If I put files in a separate directory and choose ‘compress directory’ option then the compression works fine.

Lazy load and Bulk Smush delete logo from Coming Soon page

Hi,
When I do a bulk smush, or just activate lazy load, the logo on my Coming soon page disappears. It is currently there as I have reinstalled a previous iteration; however, I have isolated the issue to either a bulk smush or lazy load activation. Please let me know how I can utilize bulk smush AND lazy load without this occurring. Many thanks.

Bulk Smush stuck on 0%

Hi,

I have the free version of Smush and I’m trying to Bulk Smush the files on my website. It worked for around 1000 files (doing 50 at a time). Now it says I have 0 of 1537 images optimised. When I click on Bulk Smush it says it’s smushing but it never changes from 0% and no files get smushed. I’ve tried deactivating the plugin and re-activating it. This doesn’t help. I’ve even deleted and reinstalled it, but this still doesn’t help. Any ideas?

Hi, I’m trying to optimize my page because it’s too slow.
So I saw, besides images I could smush also the directories, I’ve been trying to do this with wp-content folder and it just shows me the screen saying
“bulk smushing is in progress, you need to leave this tab open until de process completes.”
Then a bar of 0% that never changes, even if I leave it for a very long time.

Can you please tell me if I’m doing something wrong? Or can I fix this?

I installed the free version of Smush yesterday and have repeatedly tried today to bulk smush (I know there’s a 50 limit) on a website but every time the process does some of the 50 batch but then fails with this error:

Error posting to API: cURL error 6: Couldn’t resolve host ‘smushpro.wpmudev.org’

I have contacted my ISP and they do not block any outgoing connections from plugins, and quote that “many of our customers do use Smush successfully. So I suggest contacting the developer of the plugin and requesting a fix.”

I also have another site where the automatic smushing worked this morning with a number of new image uploads but it stopped working 2 hours ago and 2 new images are now sitting in the Library with Smush Now! button displayed.

I see that this error occurs frequently with Smush from previous posts here and in other forums. Is this an error that means your servers are overloaded or is it a bug?

Hi,
When I try to bulk smush, I get:
Error posting to API: SSLRead() return error -9806
for every single file.

I have WP fastest Cache installed, but disabling it does not help.

If I try to smush an individual image, the process starts, but no confimation or error message.
