New payments admin menu entry? What for?

Hi,

I just updated WooCommerce to 9.4.2. I’m not sure it’s specific to that version, but I noticed a new Payments entry in the main WordPress admin menu, right below “Products”. Which makes it the fourth first level menu entry, just for WooCommerce.

That payment button, appears to be a shortcut, to /wp-admin/admin.php?page=wc-admin&task=payments, where we’re offered to set additional payment methods.

As a store manager, I can say we don’t need to set an additional payment method every morning, so that it’s not useful, at all, having this option available from this already-very-busy main menu.

Now, that page is different from the Settings > Payments (/wp-admin/admin.php?page=wc-settings&tab=checkout) page, where payments methods are set.

Adding a new distinction for additonal payment methods just makes the whole thing more confusing. Additional payment methode are… payment methods. We probably can stick with that, or at least set both classic and additional payments methods from that single page.

If not the default behaviour, can you please provide us with an option to remove that Payments entry from the main menu?

WP Rocket already does a lot to improve performance, but the bloat of WPBakery or Elementor remains. Here Debloat delivers an enormous increase in speed even with standard settings. In fact, 5 stars are not enough here. Thanks for the great plugin.

WP_OPTIONS BLOAT

I have been trying to optimise my wp_options for the autoloaded setting.

I have noticed 106 entries all starting with “stm_ccb_form_settings_” and then a 4 digit code (which im asuming is the calculator ID) I dont have any of these other calculators in my set-up nor have I ever created them.

Am I safe to remove them? where did they come from?

Sorry to say that I am now looking at alternatives to Jetpack as it looks to be going the way of Adobe and many other tech firms. Whatever move fast and break things business graduate focused on revenue has taken recent steps has soured the tech for me and the non-profit community education project I run. Even the ‘free’ version has now created a situation where the visitor statistics are next to useless; I consider this a bait and switch tactic that has destroyed my/our trust in the management of some talented coders at Automatic. My chief concern is that I will not be able to effectively export all the data which belongs to the project before removing what has become a cumbersome and bloated plugin which seems to be a zero sum game in terms of server load. Thank goodness for the general WordPress ecology which means that there is a market of other options and opportunities for talent to produce alternatives enabling migration. To add to this, ‘the support’ I engaged is yet another rubbish flow chart ai automated response which cannot deal with non stock questions or slight difference – ai feels so gimmicky for the choss it produces. So, this is a review I am leaving to see if the customer message reaches the Jetpack management before we abandon ship and hope in what was a long and happy relationship with this plugin. Like Youtube management and Google management have u-turned on aggressive monetization strategies, there is the hope that Automatic will do a rethink; if not, it is a case of abandon ship. This will become another average-to-ugghh technology on the market which noob’s turn to or those who use sledgehammers to crack nuts (i.e. pay for more server resources and costs etc). This is an interesting time for tech economic ecology of the digital world where we will see management styles sink operations which have built up excellent reputations over time – rich pickings for those writing case studies. To recap, the last straw of affection for this plugin was with the crippling of visitors statistics leaving a useless free version for non-profits. Have a word with yourselves Jetpack, you were better than this.

Update: Finally got a response from support and they have enabled the statistics on the commerce free websites I developed and run. Im concerned that the process took so much knocking on the door but glad that someone answered. Still jittery about the shifting sands which have gone on so am doing my research to see if the monetisation disease has set in. Project managers – NB: badly planned and low marks for implementation. Ive moved the rating from one star up to three stars for the response I got.

Useful but the update has massively over-engineered the plugin

This was a simple plugin, which basically allowed you to disable the generation of images based on their presets. However, I don’t know when this happened.. but clearly an update came through and totally re-designed the interface, bundled a bunch of features (mostly “Pro” clickbait) and that would have all been fine.. if it didn’t disable the functionality that it was already performing.

Now, despite re-enabling the “module” for this plugin, to continue it’s function of stopping the generation of various image sizes… it seems that every time there’s an update, it wants to completely set the configuration to default.. meaning that images are being generated at the incorrect sizes once again… and you should refresh the configuration page even after saving, because sometimes it reverts back or shows the incorrect configuration.

There was no need to bloat this plugin and basically ruin what was working perfectly fine.. But despite other complains in the support section from other users.. issues continue.

Thanks, but I guess I’ll be looking for a replacement.

I have always been disgusted with all the branding bloat found in YouTube. This plugin removes it all with a simple flip of the switch. The default player controls are really nice too.

Plugin breaks media upload

I have a multivendor site. Vendor does not have media upload access when this plugin is active.

Now it is so packed with ads, upsales marketing, and crap that it is more frustrating than useful.

Not sure who at Automattic hired the ex-Microsoft engineer, but the bloated engineering (including woo payments, Gutenberg, Tumblr, Blocks, etc) is going to kill from the inside out.
