Gutenberg will format part of the text italic, like this:
loremipsum lorem ipsum loremipsum
But I do not want Gutenberg to auto format this text in any way.
I tried to use the combination CMD+Shift+V in order to insert unformatted text, but this does not prevent the auto format from Gutenberg.
The only workaround that I came across is to insert a classic editor, insert the text there unformatted and convert to Gutenberg blocks.
I really want to be able to directly insert directly into Gutenberg without the editor to convert part of the text into italic text.
Is there a way to achieve this?
Background info:
In Germany there is a gender neutral writing method that makes use of the asterisk. E.g.: “Mitarbeiter*innen”. So words in a text may contain asterisks, and users should still be able to copy paste texts into Gutenberg that contain such formatted words.
]]>I have been having persistent issues for past weeks with adding space between paragraphs in Classic Block.
As depicted here, the spaces are in place. If I click on preview, this is what I get in reality instead. Not only my preview is not showing correctly, but after I save draft with the spaces between paragraphs, it simply is not there after I open it again…
I have disabled my theme and all plugins to make this test without any bagagge. It does not work no matter what I do – it simply does not work.
Any suggestions?

What’s wrong and how can I turn autoformat off?
Thanks,

]]>I’m pulling the content of a WYSIWYG field into my Gravity Forms notification. When the text is displayed in the user’s email client, there’s an excessive amount of white space around a lot of the text, especially ul and ol lists.
I’ve disabled auto-formatting for the notification, but the auto-formatting from the WYSIWYG field still seems to be getting pulled in.
There doesn’t appear to be an option to turn this off on the field itself. Is there any way I can get this text to format properly?

]]>I am writing some custom PHP scripts for a client who would like it displayed on a WordPress page. On their WordPress installation, I’ve installed the plugin Allow PHP in posts.
The PHP script in question does what most code does: queries a table from a database, plays with the result and prints it in a orderly fashion. It also uses some JavaScript as to access the Google Maps API and display a map.
WordPress’ auto formatting often adds unnecessary paragraph (p) and line break (br) tags to the text. While this isn’t very problematic to regular text that needs to be read, it is causing syntactical errors in the JavaScript portion. (I have the JavaScript being ‘displayed’ by a PHP echo to minimize the amount of times its executed, and to ensure the correct variables are always called.)
I have already disabled WordPress’ auto formatting in the theme’s functions.php file, I have include()’d WordPress’ API in the script and disabled the auto formatting there too, as well as tried a few anti-autoformatting plugins (often requiring the use of a custom field) but have not gotten the predicted results.
The code is being executed by the Allow PHP in posts (using eval() ) but the raw code does not exist in the post, but rather is being include()’d in the post.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to disable WP from auto formatting that text?

I’m using version 1.7.2 of the plugin. I don’t recall ever having this problem before, so I almost wonder if it has popped up after updating the plugin recently.
I am also using the TinyMCE Advanced and Advanced TinyMCE Config plugins, however I’m not having this issue on any of my regular posts. I am able to create line-breaks normally.
