I have a test post which shows up when I connect to the base address.
The problem is that attempting to preview the post from the editor, or attempting to access it from the “Recent posts” link on the home page, returns a 404 error (although the only thing shown is “File not found.” on the resulting page).
Although I have more than 50 years’ experience in computing, and used to develop web pages in the late 1990s using Emacs to edit HTML directly, I am trying to move into the 21st Century with this experimental site. I have been unable to find any help via search engine queries, as everything I do find assumes that I am using a preconfigured cPanel system to install/update/control the site.
I’m looking for suggestions as to what I have misconfigured to bring about this state of affairs.
]]>I presume it was with the last update, but suddenly my instant download file links are showing as 404 file not found. I’ve updated my plug-ins and re-saved my permalink. I can get it to work when my WooCommerce download settings are “re-direct only (insecure)” but not when set to “Force downloads” which is what it had always been and is my preference. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Jess
I built a site using the Divi theme by elegantthemes.
https://allisonjanes.com/dataaccess_wp
My client asked me to move it to another domain on another URL. I was following the instructions, created a DB backup, created a site backup, created a site with the new URL and then my client told me to stop the process as he wanted to change ISPs. Now I want to restore the site on my domain again and I can’t. I can view the site but the theme is all screwed up and when I try to login to the dashboard it gives me a 404 error.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m willing to answer any questions.

]]>I’m not a techie and quite new to blogging. I have this site which I posted my first blog last week- www.pinoyshooter.org/bogs. The problem is that I was exploring the site and went to Settings>General and tried to change the url to www.pinoyshooter.org/bogsPhilippines. Now its showing file not found 404. I can’t access my admin since it’s also showing the same problem- www.pinoyshooter.org/bogs/wp-admin.
Any solutions?
Thank you.

]]>Im having a minor issue with the Pyrmont V2 theme, (Over all it’s fantastic!) but I just came across this error the other day,
Before log in, viewing a post, a user must log in to post a comment (As normal I guess) the custom message says “You must be logged in to post a comment” with the Logged text as a link. that link doesn’t work for some strange reason, the below error appears:
404 File not found
The requested URL /< was not found on this server.
Apache/2.0.52 (Red Hat) Server at www.kubull.com Port 80
I think it may narrow down to the fact I have wordpress installed in a subdirectory, but due to my lack of knowledge of HTML, I wouldn’t know how to change it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

]]>The more pressing issue is that I now cannot access any admin functions, and the blog itself will not load properly. Going to my blog’s home page returns the following 404 error message:
Ooops…Where did you get such a link ?
Server cannot locate what you are looking for !
The Server tried all of its options before returning this page to you. 404You are looking for something that is not here now.
The content appears, but not in WP format. And when I try to log in to Site Admin, the URL is off by a character, which is what leads me to believe that when I was fiddling with the WordPress address (URL) and blog address (URL) fields on the General Settings page in Admin, I might have accidentally saved with a typo or something.
To be more concrete, my blog is at www.authorship2.com, but when I try to log into Admin from there, I get redirected to https://www.authorship.com/wp-login.php (without the 2), which gives me a File Not Found error. When I insert the 2 in the login URL, I am directed to an unformatted login page, and when I log in, I get the same File Not Found page.
Please help! I seem to be trapped in an endless misdirected loop. Where is that data stored so that I can access it and fix it? Is it somewhere in the database? I don’t want to mess up anything else with additional fiddling!
Many thanks!
