While this theme has a classy look (to me,) and I greatly prefer its font and button appearances to the more minimalist look (too much white and plain fonts to my sense) that seems to dominate the WordPress themes, i had a heck of a time getting Wordsmith Anvil to work properly. This may be because of my site’s non-blogging needs and my own lack of understanding of what this theme offers. Before posting this low rating, I tried to contact the designer by e-mail (see the quoted message below, detailing the issues I was experiencing) but have heard nothing back. If this is all more from operator error than theme dysfunction, I will gladly adjust the rating. (BTW, I’ve activated another theme, which doesn’t have these problems, although I still prefer the look of WA.)
“Thank you for this theme. Love its overall look. Unfortunately, I’m having quite a few frustrating issues. Aside from WA not being responsive (this seems paramount in this mobile age,) I ran into things like:
– child pages don’t appear under the respective parent pages when I hover my mouse over the parent tabs. More specifically, the child pages don’t appear at all once they’re made subordinate to another page. For this site I need a hierarchical structure.
– due to the nature of my site, I also don’t want comments appearing on posts at present, so I’ve unchecked them — but they still appear on the post with a line drawn through them???
Before I proceed any further, I’m wondering if Anvil isn’t the best theme for my city events site – or is this operator error? It’s been years since I worked with websites (before the days of posts, I’m afraid,) and I used a WYSIWYG builder called NetObjects Fusion. WordPress has taken some getting used to, but I’m enjoying learning, love the Open Source environment and attitude, and intend to stick it out, including days of going through tutorials that have helped me tweak a lot of things. I’ve also tried to find answers on your FAQ page but not having luck with these specific issues.”
