Upgraded from 1.5 to 2.0 and all theme settings gone (lost site logo, background color, etc)

I want to add “breaking news” to my WordPress page but, when I go to choose a category for the breaking news to pull from it only lets me choose “uncategorized” and does not even show my other categories I have created.

I am running top mag theme on my WP.
Though the theme is responsive but some inner pages are not reponsive. For example the main page is mobile friendly but the below page is not responsive. Pls help. I have tried many mobile friendly plugins but I am facing same problem with them also.

I’m using the free version. The slider and recent posts use the featured image from the actual post. This is a problem because of the different sizes. If I use a large image to fit the slider, the recent post image is squished. If I use a small image to fit the recent post, the slider is stretched. Not sure what to do to make this work. I thought about upgrading to the Pro version, but I don’t think it would matter.
