I use the Startup Blog theme and am very happy with the free version.
But now I would like to use some things from the Pro version.
If I buy it, e.g. the 49€ version for 1 year, do I always keep it or do I have to pay the 49€ every year?

My ISP recently forced a PHP upgrade on my site from 8.1 to 8.2. Suddenly a bunch of error messages appeared in the header, such as

“Deprecated: Creation of dynamic property WP_Review_Me::$days is deprecated in /home/XXXX/poetry.ruekberg.com/wp-content/themes/startup-blog/inc/review.php on line 81” (XXX is the user directory)

All the errors relate to this theme. I reverted to PHP 8.1 and everything returned to normal. Will there be an update to this theme, or should I stick with 8.1?

I have a contact form set up, but messages are going to an old email address. I went to Settings/General and verified that my new email address is there. I thought maybe when I had changed that address a while ago I had neglected to confirm it, so I changed it to the old one, verified it from there, then changed it back to the new one. Then I filled out the contact form from a different account (I have several Google accounts in Chrome) which has never been used to edit my site. Messages still go to the old email. I have searched everywhere for a setting that might be pointing Feedback (Contact form) messages to my old email, but can’t find anything. Help is very much appreciated.

I have 3 columns in my Footer Widget, and I want the text in the right column to align to the right. It aligns right when I’m editing it, but it doesn’t show on the page. I also want the text in the centre column to sit at the bottom of the widget, and it shows that way in editing, but doesn’t show on the page. Any suggestions?

All of a sudden I can’t leave comments on my own posts, and am wondering if other people are leaving comments I don’t see. I’ve left two comments on my own posts. The link below is to one post, and the comment I left two years ago is gone, although I can see it in my Dashboard. In another post the comment was just a graphic and it shows. I can’t leave new comments on posts.

I have checked all the settings I can. In the “Discussion Settings” page, the setting is enabled to allow comments on my site. Likewise on the post pages themselves. I’ve read three articles about what might be wrong and none help. I deactivated Akismet and no help (then I reactivated it).

When I try to post a comment on my post, after I hit reply instead of a comment I see a graphic of my dashboard header. When I refresh the page even that is gone.

Hi Ben,

I noticed that, if you put Widgets in the footer, the footer is displayed not at the end, but in the middle of my page. This error occures only on a mobile device/in mobile view. On a tablet or desktop it works fine. Any ideas on how to fix this?

first of all: I purchased the theme and love it since it’s easy to setup and really fast! However I am having an issue, that I need help with.

I need to show dynamic content (via html code, it’s a number that gets automatically updated) inside the slider or instead of the slider. Right now If I display a site in the slider it is only able to show text but nothing more. How can I achieve to show EVERY content of my created site? Or – if thats not possible – how can I replace the slider and show something else there (widget, customizable code, e.g…).

Love this theme and upgraded to Pro. Unfortunately I’m encountering an issue where gallery short codes and iframe embeds are showing on the blog but working correctly on individual posts.

On the above mentioned demo page there is the ‘A Post Without an Image‘ article. My question is: How should any user be aware of the fact that there is more content?

Since the early days of WordPress there is the More-Block and even in the Gutenberg editor it can be configured what should be displayed when using this block.

I use this block in every article I have written so far. So my scheme for each article is: title -> intro -> more -> content. What I expect to be shown on my blog: title -> intro -> more (link to the complete article). But it’s just title & intro.

You offer a lot of options for using the excerpt, but I miss the link to the whole article when using the more block.

Am I right or is there an option which I haven’t discovered yet?

Is there a possibilty to add a picture background to either the whole page to appear behind the content wrapper, or have it as a background for the header?

I love your theme and have been using it for years. Recently I ran into a display issue.

I use a plugin called “The Events Calendar.” For a while they were allowing use of WP Classic Editor in addition to Gutenberg blocks. They are going to be disabling Classic. When I disable Classic mode (in preparation for them deprecating it), the event items appear in a white box on top of my custom theme color (green/tan). The box also partially obscures other information, such as the date, depending on the size of my browser window. In full screen the box doesn’t cover up dates, but smaller sizes do. On my mobile phone the opaque white box and obscuring issue shows as well.

I contacted The Events Calendar, but they said it was a theme issue. I’ve changed every setting I can think of in the plugin, but nothing helps, except enabling Classic mode. Attached is a screen shot of the “Previous Events” page in Classic mode which shows how I would like it to look.

I’ve linked above to the previous events page, since there is only one on the current event page (https://poetry.ruekberg.com/events/), but the problem happens in both places and in the sidebar widget.

Any help you can give is appreciated.

I use this theme for about two years and just now I’ve noticed there’s an issue with the slider on my site. It’s not changing the articles for whatever reason, not even when I click the arrows. It must have happened in the last month or so because I didn’t notice before. I tried turning off all plugins I have installed recently but it didn’t help. I also tried removing all custom CSS/PHP changes but it didn’t help either.

I want to universally edit the way my posts archive pages look. Specifically, I’m talking about the pages that look like: ABC.com/2020 or ABC.com/2020/06

How do I edit those types of pages since they don’t appear in my pages list and the “customize” button only allows me to change a few things like the width and title font?

I have a question about the menus. The owner of the website I am working on wants all menu items together, so I added all menu items to the secondary menu and kept the main menu empty.
However, when I look at the mobile version of the website on my phone, the main menu hamburger button is still there. When you click on it, obviously nothing appears, since there are no main menu items, but it is a bit confusing to have it there without any menu items.
1. Is there a way to remove the main menu hamburger button altogether?
2. Is there a way to change the ‘+’ button for the secondary menu to a hamburger button? I like the way you did the ‘+’ for the secondary menu, but since there is no main menu, it makes more sense to use a hamburger button since that is what people expect to see and recognize as being a menu. I love the Startup Blog Theme, but only have one issue: The header image is always blurry, no matter which size or dpi I upload it with. I tried different images to see if it makes a difference but they are all blurry once the image is live (they are not blurry on my screen before). Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Dear Ben, recently I installed the Startup Blog theme to try and so far so good. But It would be great if you could help wih a few things. I managed to edit the h2 thanks to the ticket here. But others:

1. Read more button – I noticed you recommended to install the Child theme for this. Any risk using Child and not the main? Is there any way to translate “read more” to my language?

2. Lost formatting when using “continue reading” block in writing. I have two paragraphs as you can see in this post

After the two paragraphs I input continue reading block. In full article everything is ok, but on homepage you can see, that formatting is lost for the preview.

I use the continue reading block as the easiest way to force the excerpt of the article for preview instead of copying the text to special excerpt.

3. Any tips for ideal measurements of the image for the main picture of the article? I am having trouble to somehow fit perfectly with the desired cropped object.

I use the plugin “S.A.F. – wpTools Security” to scan my site for security issues and others. Every time it runs, I get 404 errors: “Incorrect URI”. The most recent list includes these. Is this a Theme issue?

I want to use the slider as the main element at the top of a page, but still want to have a not-too-tall header image at the top of the page. I created a thin header image (1500 pixels wide by 94 pixels tall) for the header image area, only I cannot get the full image to display. When I select the image for the header slot, I must choose the Crop option. (There is no Skip Crop option as there is when I select other, larger header images.) The crop feature will only let me select a very small section of the full image. I cannot get past this Crop function to allow the system to accept this image.

I just started to use your wonderful theme and saw that there is no “Read more” link under the excerpt of a post. Of course you can reach the full post with a click on titel or featured image, but some of my users are not that used to it.

Is there a possibility to show a read more link ? Maybe I just missed an option ?
