Hi there, First thing is to say thank you so much for this great theme. Still I wanted to add some custom css e.g. to make some changes to the tagline etc. Trying to follow the instructions on https://support.competethemes.com/help/custom-css-period/ I realized already at step 2 that I couldn’t find a menu entry “additional css” in the customizer menu.
Here a screenshot of the customizer menu:

Could you please help or give advice how I could add custom css?
Best regards, Rudolf
Hi Ben, thanks for adding the Instagram Threads social plug to the list, I have added the link from the customizer but unfortunately, it’s not showing up on my site with other icons, this time I have kept the link in the customizer so that you can check it. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Hi,
So I have been using Period for a while now and it has been pretty great so far. The last I checked I was easily able to add my social media links from my WordPress, however, now when I try to add my social media links they just don’t appear, none of them.
I tried clearing cache and everything still doesn’t appear on the top right corner of my blog. In the end, I had to contact my developer to check this issue, he emailed me back with a screenshot showing it’s “Unpreviewable” in the javascript I guess, which I have attached below for your reference.
He also wrote that it’s because I’m using the free version and I need to buy the “Period Pro” to be able to add them, just wanted to know if that is true, and if not, how do I fix it? Looking forward to hearing from you soon..
P.S. – Refer to the attachment for your reference.
Recently noticed that the website has a defined width and no long expands to the width of the page. I didn’t see anything in the changelog for this. Is there a setting I am missing that switch between a fixed with for the page and full window size for the user on a typical computer browser?
Why is this not working?
.site-header {
background-image: url(“image URL here”);
}
My website title has randomly disappeared from display. It still shows in, for example, the tab bar when page isn’t in focus, but on the page itself there is just a blank space where the title should be above the tag line. It shows in other themes, I have deleted and reinstalled Period, even gone to the lengths of checking the functions pho page… everything I can think of but I’m at a loss.
Hi!
Recently, I realized that the dropdown icon is broken on my page:
This is visible only when I am not logged in to the admin panel. This is also visible on mobile and multiple browsers.
Once I log it, it suddenly disappears:
Any ideas where to search for the problem?
Hi Ben,
When users enter comments (Period Pro), they get to enter their name, email, website, and of course the comment itself. I’d like to collect all of that, but when rendering the comment, I don’t want the default behavior of Period, which is to link the name to the website (if entered).
I notice that for the comments section, you already customize the rendering with ct_period_customize_comments(...)
where you have the appropriate call to render the linked name: <?php comment_author_link(); ?>
Since that is in the functions.php of the theme, what’s the best way for me to customize it in my child theme? Essentially, I want to change that one line to: <?php comment_author(); ?>
Thanks much!
Dan
There is a search feature that we have in the footer and in other locations. The current search widget has an image that we want to delete, as there is no need to have one when the word “SEARCH” is visible and there is the standard magnifying glass.
If you go to the bottom of the page from the above link you will see what I am referring to.
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Hi! I’d like to remove the author from the post byline, since I’m the only author. I created a post-byline.php file in my child theme, but I couldn’t figure out how to remove it from there. I also tried using CSS. Any help is appreciated. thanks!
Currently the Before Main Content widget area lays out with three (on a wide screen) widgets shown horizontally:
widget 1 | widget 3 | widget 3
This is responsive, so reduces to two and then one widget, but I’d like to have the widgets stack vertically in this area, rather than horizontally. And I’d like each widget to be 100% of the container width (or nearly so, minus padding and margins, etc.).
Is there some CSS magic I can use to do this?
Thanks as always Ben!
Dan
Hello! Quick question about dropdown lists in the header (specifically the “Categories” option). I would like to put a 2px border around the dropdown, and also highlight the different options a certain color. I’ve done both of those things with the below code, but I know there’s a better way.
The border is only appearing on hover, which means when I click the dropdown it fades in with a hover animation. I would like it to be there as soon as the dropdown is clicked, so that there is no fade-in animation.
Also, there seems to be a margin on the top, left, and bottom of the dropdown box, so that the hover isn’t selecting the entire area. I would like for those margins to be removed (if possible) so that there’s no white space on the edges when hovering over a list option. I’d also like to remove the padding in between those list options as well.
Here is the code. I tried li:hover instead of a:hover, but that didn’t work:
.menu-container ul.sub-menu
{border-style: solid;
border-width: 2px}
.menu-container ul.sub-menu a:hover
{background-color: var(--p-body)}
Thank you!
Hi, I’d like to make some changes to the native WordPress comments. I tinkered with comments.php and comments-link.php in my child theme, but I wasn’t successful. I want to change the title of the comment section, and also remove the option to submit a website. Any help is appreciated!
Hello. I added a border below the categories dropdown to see what it would look like, but I only want it to apply to the mobile version. How could I go about making edits only show in the mobile version, or if I wanted to, in the desktop version?
Hello! This will hopefully be my last question here, at least for a while.
This one may involve html, because I want to remove the text from the search button (value = “Search”) and somehow replace it with a search icon, preferably the same one that is built into the Period theme.
From my research, I’d need to edit the html for that widget, but I wouldn’t know how to get the search icon from the website and put it in the submit button.
Hello! I added a custom “link” icon next to the social media icons, because I want to link to some other sites.
I’d like to make the icon function the same way as the social media icons and the search icon. That is, I’d like it to change to white on hover, but stay purple (#D7AFFF) at all other times, including active and focus.
I’m unsure how to even go about that, because I just found that icon online and made it transparent. Is there a better icon out there that will come with the option to change colors? Is there a link icon built into the theme already that I haven’t found? Or would I need to somehow create a separate white link icon and configure that icon to show up on hover?
And one more thing – Google PageSpeed Insights was telling me that it wants a width and height specified in the code for the custom icon. When I added this icon via the WordPress Customizer, I believe it only specifies width, as shown in the second-to-last line of the code below (found by “Right Click -> Inspect” on the icon):

So in summary,
1. I’d like to have a custom link icon that can change to white on hover just like the rest of the icons.
2. I’d like the icon to specify both width and height of 24px.
Please let me know if this is possible, thanks!
Hi again. I’m almost done making the preferred changes to my website, but there are a couple minor things left. One of them is configuring the search icon. I’ve managed to change the color to #D7AFFF. The hover color is currently gray, and I’d like to change it to white. Also, I don’t know if this is because of something I did, or if it’s just how the theme is, but after the search icon is clicked, if I click away from the box to remove it, the search icon stays gray (#D4D4D4). I’d like to change that color to #D7AFFF as well. I pretty much only want it to be white when hovered.
Thanks in advance for the help!
Hello! I recently asked how to move the sidebar to the bottom of the page for single posts, and I received an answer. Now the issue is that the search bar doesn’t extend through the entire page, since it seems to have been made to fit in the sidebar specifically. I tried .search-field{} or .search-form or .search-form-container and played around with things like max-width and width, but with no success.
To see what I mean, view the page I need help with on a device larger than a phone, and you’ll see how the search bar doesn’t fill up the space.
The goal is to have the search bar expand horizontally to fill whatever space it is in, while still keeping the same padding. What code could I use to do this? Thanks!
How to make single post full width with sidebar already removed?
My goal is that when someone clicks on a post while using a computer or laptop, the page they are taken to has the post full-width, with the sidebar widgets displayed at the bottom after scrolling through the post. This is already the case for mobile devices, but I’d prefer that experience for computer users as well. I want them to focus on the content. I’m using a child theme, so any suggestions are welcome.
Is this possible? Thanks!
Hi Ben. You might recall that I am a usually very happy user of the Period 1.500 theme (we were talking last month). But I have recently started using the Rank Math SEO plug-in, and I have received the following warning:
Too many H1 tags found on your page (2). For the best SEO results there should be exactly one H1 tag on each page.
I think I have found the ‘extra’ tag in these lines of the source code
<aside class=”sidebar sidebar-primary” id=”sidebar-primary” role=”complementary”>

Sidebar

I am not really good at coding, just self-taught jungle survival skills. But I think you may know of some snippet of CSS that I can add to fix this issue. I would like to keep the H1 title and let go of the H1 screen-reader.
The page in question is my starting page, so I really would like to get the SEO working right.
Do you have any suggestions about how to handle this?
Thank you, and bye for now … Tom
Hi, in period pro you can choose a blog layout and i think i came across a bug because my website is displaying the blog layout i chose correctly in chrome but in safari the layout is not showing correctly, it looks bad. Is there a solution ?
Hi Ben,
Period Pro user here, i want to change the size of the hamburger menu on mobile because it is way to big and change the location of the menu up to top right like you see on most of the mobile friendly websites today, is that possible ?
Thank You,

Hi Ben,
Period Pro user (though, I must admit, my subscription has lapsed). I’d like to add some content just below the post title.
Before I start looking through the theme templates, I was wondering if there is a hook for that section that I can use in my own site plugin to add a bit of content?
Thanks!

I use Period Pro and I want to make hover effect for submenu.
Is it possible?
Now when I hover over main menu with my mouse, menu items change their color.
But in submenu there is no such effect.
Thank you!
Hello,
I would like to try your beautiful theme but before I replace my old theme, I would like to know if there is a way to hide/remove the side bar in order to have a full width page instead.
Is that possible?
Thank you!
Running Period Pro. (but version 1.07)
I have added a custom taxonomy to my site called “Trip”. I’d like to use a different layout for it than the “Posts” layout, but when I go into the Customize: Layout settings, I have options for Posts, Pages, Blog, and Archive.
Is there a way to add my custom taxonomy here? Or, is there a way to do the layout in PHP easily? I want to use the one column, wide layout when things are shown using this taxonomy.
As it is, I’ve copied the contents of index.php into my taxonomy-trip.php file (in a child theme), so right now I’m just getting the same layout as… Archive I guess?
Ultimately what I want to do here is to pull some metadata for the taxonomy item from the database and then show (in the loop-container) the various posts that are associated in the taxonomy item.
Thanks!
<?php get_header();
get_template_part( 'content/archive-header' );
do_action( 'after_archive_header' ); ?>

TRIP TEMPLATE

<?php
if ( have_posts() ) :
while ( have_posts() ) :
the_post();
ct_period_get_content_template();
endwhile;
endif;
?>

<?php
the_posts_pagination( array(
'prev_text' => esc_html__( 'Previous', 'period' ),
'next_text' => esc_html__( 'Next', 'period' )
) );
get_footer();

Hello!
Is it possible to drop-down the submenus by clicking instead of hovering over the main menu items?
Best,

OK, so this may not be Period specific, but since I’m using Period, I want to make sure I end up with the right thing…
I have a series of pages on my site which are for a “store.” I want to use a different sidebar on those pages (different widgets in the sidebar), so I thought I would create a Page template specific to all /store/ URLs.
My question – in my period-child theme, what file should I create (I assume in /period-child/templates/ ) so that I have essentially a duplicate of the “Default Template” but that I can name differently (and hopefully have a different side bar).
Thanks!

I sent my website URL to about ten people and most replied with a good screen shot. . however two people sent back not good views. . keep in mind that this was their first viewing so it wasn’t a cashe issue and refreshing did not fix the problem.
I put up a temporary page for you to see.
