Could this be the cause of the message? would changing it to just $depth, like the others, solve the problem w/o breaking the site?

After installing PHP 8.1 from a 7.4, the theme widgets are no longer displayed.
Is there an update to Magazine Basic for PHP 8?
I believe there is a RSS widget hard coded into this theme. If so, can the font size (and bold print) be edited?

]]>I’m using a child theme but it wasn’t showing the Header under Appearances and I need to update it after switching to https. I saw there was a Magazine Basics theme update so I updated it (leaving child theme active), and now my site layout is completely broken, as if there is no theme applied at all. Irony is now I see the Header under Appearances. What a mess!

]]>I have used Magazine Basic for many years and am happy with the Theme most of the time.
But I have noticed periodically during the last few years that the home page does not display correctly. The side columns disappear, the ‘magazine’ layout disappears — it displays as copy and images in the center of the page instead of the way it should.
After a few days, it seems to fix itself. In the meantime, my site looks terrible and all my sidebar links and menus are gone.

The above screenshot shows that when you click on Page 2 at the bottom of the screen, the site now shows the widgets underneath the content, rather than on the right hand side, where I would expect it to be. What do we do to fix that please?

]]>I am having similar problems with the free Magazine Basic Version: 3.0.7. I have used this theme for many years with success, but lately it is getting buggy and links to articles on FaceBook are posting very strangely. Rather than showing the image and an excerpt from the article, it is now just showing the URL to the main site (not the current article) and a bunch of gibberish in place of the article excerpt. I really like this theme and don’t really want to change it, so can someone help me to figure out why it is doing this?

I am “premium” subscriber of the theme (bought it couple of years ago for fixed amount, before your subscription plan).
After last update 2.0.10 (from 2.0.8) I’ve noticed that thumbnails don’t appear anymore on the front page (the small images in top right corner of post excerpt). They worked by getting first image from post content – there were no featured image set and it was quite useful. Now, to set thumbnail user needs to manually set featured image.
What happened to mechanism of setting up thumbnail from image in post content and posting it to excerpt on front page? Is it possible to have it back?
I’ve manually set back some of the images, but it would be great to have them back. You could see page below (some post have manual images, others not, despite having images in content).

My site won’t show changes made, via the dashboard, on the website. The changes are visible if I open the customization menu, and during preview, but once I attempt to view them on the site, they aren’t there.
Oddly, the issue doesn’t carry across all pages. I can see the changes I’ve made on the pages of certain posts, but not others. And, if I attempt to publish a new blog post, it’s viewable on my desktop dashboard and on mobile, but not on the site’s home page.
I have disabled the cache plugin, cleared the browser, and checked with my hosting service to make sure they haven’t cached, but I am still experiencing the same problem.

I tried to add sub menus to my primary menu items and it looks good. But wherever there is a sub menu, the parent item becomes unclickable. The browser still display the url, but nothing happens when clicks.
PS. it is clickable in customizing mode..really weird

]]>I am using magazine basic without any sidebars. It was working perfectly under wordpress 3.5. Updated to the latest version and updated the theme also. (I now see it is probably not a great idea to do both at once without checking through everything.)
It is now not possible to have 100% width of the text on the page, only the highest setting 83%. Before all I did was set to no sidebars and the text filled the page 100%.
I have commented out all sidebar code but this does not change the situation. Also found a suggestion to place an empty text widget in one sidebar but this does not change anything either.

I’m using a child theme of Magazine Basic.
The customizer worked very well for weeks until my background color changed on my site. However, when I check in the customizer the colors have not changed, they remain the same as I had customized.
In the stylesheet, the color I chose (#1d4695) does not appear anywhere.
I tried to deactivate all plugins but the problem persists. So it’s not a plugin issue.
I tried refreshing my browser cache (F5), I tried the hard cache refresh (ctrl + shift + Del) but the problem is still here. So it’s not a cache issue.
Only the background color won’t change. The rest of the customizer’s Color section works well. It’s really just the background color which has changed for some reason.
]]>After the last update, for some reason the widgets get pushed into the footer on posts. They’re fine on the front page and static pages, but not on blog posts. I didn’t change anything but since my site is add supported, I’m losing ad traffic. Plus now I have a HUGE white space next to my articles. Anyone else having this problem? And any ideas on how to fix it?

I’m wondering if there is a way to set up the Front Page so that readers can see the “Full Content” of the Post Content Display and the featured image at the same time?
Currently, under the Settings for Front Page, you have to choose “Teaser Excerpt” under Post Content Display in order to have the featured image display on the Front Page. Unfortunately, this cuts-off the content of our “lead-ins,” so we would like to be able to display the full “lead-in,” as well as the featured image.
Is there any way to alter the settings to accommodate this? For instance, by expanding how many characters the Teaser Excerpt will display?

]]>I know this question has been asked often but I have just started using WordPress and this is my first site. Anyway, my sidebar has moved to the bottom of my homepage (other pages are fine). I know I need to change my code somehow but I have no idea what needs to be changed exactly and how to change it. I’ve spent hours now researching and trying to fix it but have had no luck. I did notice though that the problem started when I made my first post and around the same time I installed an update to the Magazine Basic theme. Maybe it’s linked to one of those.
