I’ve been using WPS Menu Exporter?for a while now, and I must say, the experience has been far from pleasant. Here are the key issues that make this plugin problematic:

The functionality of this plugin works as expected – you can export a WordPress object and import it back into a separate site. It will indeed replicate your menu structure as intended.
However, I will be disabling this product immediately across the 80 sites I operate. This is because of some unfair/unsavory dashboard advertisements that were included with a recent update to this plugin. There is now a banner advertisement for an unrelated product which can not be dismissed, is not WCAG compliant and is generally unwelcome. Based on information from both sets of websites, neither this product nor the advertised product are operating under the same parent company or “umbrella” of products.
This is terrible behavior from plugin developers in the WordPress community. My WordPress dashboard is not a billboard for your intended marketing messages. I hope that the issue is rectified immediately.

The latest update to this plugin adds a large spam add for “WP Boutik” to the top of every admin screen that cannot be removed. This is totally unacceptable and I’m deleting this plugin now and will need to manually move a bunch of huge menus unless someone has an alternative in mind.

the spam in my backend promoting wpboutiq is NOT appreciated. Disabled your plugin across multiple sites.

worked for me

Worked well! Have a ton of menus for usage in a Mega Menu setup. Followed the given instructions and it did just fine. Didn’t import or export any crazy stuff like others experienced. I made sure to only select the Navigation Menu items when choosing what to export.

This exported bunch of extra data I didn’t want to export (like actual page content) in addition to the actual nav menus. Then when I imported, it messed up all of my destination site’s existing menus by duplicating every nav item in them. I wouldn’t recommend using this at all, but if you do be sure to make a good backup first.

Although I chose to only export menus, it also exported loads of pages, posts, etc (anything linked within the menus I guess) so when I ran the importer I ended up with loads of bloat in the site I just wanted to import the menu into. Sorry, I appreciate the odd free plugin but this one caused more work than just manually recreating the menu.

Not working in 2023. Doesn’t just export navigation menus, it exports all your posts.

There were no instructions on how to use this plugin.
Going to Plugins > WPS Menu Export > Export took me to the same place as Tools > Export.
On Tools > Export, there is no “Navigation Menus” option to select, unless I use PHP 7.4, i.e. this plugin is not compatible with PHP 8.

As another reviewer mentioned, this plugin added the extra “navigation menu items” to my list of content items to export but DID NOT EXPORT JUST MY MENU ITEMS!
It actually exported everything…..all content…..I’m disappointed because a recent core update to WP erased ALL the menus on a website I manage, and they had quite a few menus in use, most of which had many menu items…..a LOT of work to have to manually recreate, so I was hoping this would work. Apparently not.

Yeah, same experience here as the other low reviews. This just exports a massive XML file with your entire site content in it. Similar to if you’d exported Pages using the import/export tool.
It seems to have worked at some point based on reviews, but no longer..

I have been using WPS hide login for ages, not realizing they had this plugin too. I have been searching everywhere for an export import menu plugin that actually works… this is it. Thanks guys

Works like a charm for me.

Really helpful plugin, I cloned my menu items to another site.

It works as expected

This “plugin” exported all contents, pages, menu items, posts. But I selected only nav_menu_item radio on export page… Thank you very much.
UPD. Fix plugin and I will change rating.

does what it says, useful for backup and migration

I take some time just to thank you and recommend this plugin for new users. It even imports the pages you relate the menu too. This also means you can get an unwanted duplicate.
Trust this one.

Took less than 5 minutes to complete a task that could have taken an hour.
Simple and strait forward. Click export, choose to export menus, done.
This should be built into the basic export functionality in WordPress.
Thank you!

Well done !

Only showed a list of parent menu items with no child menu items.

Worked perfectly…once I figured out how to export the menu. Literally zero documentation so I had to fumble around with the WP export functions and Lo and Behold there was a new category – NAVIGATION MENUS.
Worked like a charm but I would highly recommend some BASIC instructions for people who don’t normally have extended experience working with WP.

I hoped for a plugin that exports my custom menu (respecting the order and hierarchy of the menu items).
What I got was an XML file that contained simply all posts including their content (which you dont need when you explicitly export the menu), but without the order or hierarchy from the menu.
This plugin does not make sense to me.

Do exactly what you need.
I had exported all of my menus from ‘Tools / Export
‘ and then imported them.

Will duplicate menu items if they already exist in the destination, this can cause a serious headache if you are just wanting to update an existing menu

Great plugin. Does the job. Thanks!

No clear instructions. No import function. When you import it tries to import pages as well. Then when you import it duplicates entries and screws up entire site. Export apparently exports pages etc. Badly designed.

multiple options for security, plus automated MySQL backup ??
