TL;DR It doesn’t work with the current (as of 09-20-2023) version of WordPress- doesn’t show up in the editor! Luckily, the ‘Blog’ block of the free plugin ‘Premium Addons for Elementor’ functions very similarly! I am however rating WPSP as 5 stars because of how awesome it’s been up until recently :). So if you don’t plan to update yet, it’s still good.
We’ve been using it on our main site to make editing content easier on my friend, who gets overwhelmed by the Page editor. I wrote all the Page paragraphs as Posts, then used WP Show Posts to insert them onto the Pages. That way editing a post will auto-update its page.
But now, we cannot update WordPress or risk breaking the entire site! It will be a task to switch to another plugin but luckily the ‘Blog’ block of that other plugin seems to do what WP Show Posts was doing, while remaining in the Page editor.

The 1st plugin I found, which can show complete posts include images in widget. Really good job.
Just one thing is missing to me … to show random posts.

I installed it on the current version of WordPress since I started using generatepress now. It seemed like an ideal option, until after making half a website I realised that my menu stopped working. I don’t understand why they don’t update this plugin, if it’s great.

WP Show Posts is a great plugin, simple to use and does what it says it does. The support is excellent as well. Very responsive and willing to help.

With this and GenerateBlocks you can make anything inside GeneratePress. The best!

hey tom keep it updated!
This plugin hasn’t been tested with the latest 3 major releases of WordPress. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress.

Works flawlessly and it is the best plugin of its kind. Super fast and just good, like everything from Tom Usborne.
Thanks!
Highly recommended!

Why this plugin is not updated?

Everything made by Tom and his team is top notch. Support is better than great. This plugin is no exception. While it’s not actually rocket science, it provides all the features you will need in a neat and tidy way. Like his excellent Generatepress theme everything is done with attention to the details. Awesome!

Had a small issue and got quick support. While I was waiting I tried a couple of other plugins that have the same purpose. They were at first glace more fully featured, but I found the simplicity of WP Show Posts to actually give better result on the page.

The plugin is lightweight, simple to use, but most importantly the support team helps a lot if you get stuck so it’s the perfect plugin! ??

LOVE LOVE LOVE this plugin. WordPress asks you if you want your home page to be a static page or posts and now you can have both – WITHOUT using a page builder. Just set it to page, create content within that page and just plugin the SHORT CODE where you want the posts to appear.
So easy, and perfect for my web dev agency with client sites. Thank you!

I was using Elementor Pro in my sites using Generate Press Premium to display recent posts based on categories on my Home pages as well as category pages. The problem is that Elementor (like most page builders) adds a ton of unused CSS & JS that’s render-blocking. This, despite my best efforts, failed Web Vitals in Pagespeed Insights.
My idea was to replicate the layouts I have with Elementor by using a lighter weight post grid plugin and just some shortcodes. The problem, I discovered, is that the many post grid plugins I tried are (1) poorly coded and still have far too much overhead, failing page speed tests, and (2) aren’t very refined and don’t look as good as their demos when in real use.
As a last-ditch effort (before hiring a paid developer to work on render-blocking Elementor code) I tried WP Show Posts and it worked! I’m now using WP Show Posts Pro and have been able to remove Elementor Pro completely yet have a nearly identical layout & styling. Pagespeed Insights scores are 99 on mobile for these pages and all Web Vitals are passed!
Bear in mind, that took some custom CSS and tweaking to get WPSP working as I liked, as in some regards it wasn’t mobile friendly like I expected – still some room for improvement there I think (ex.: desktop thumbnails don’t resize to fit the post grid container on mobile). Also, documentation isn’t so great in my opinion, and the demo pages are missing some of the layout styles you can use, making it hard to know which to try.
Also, you can’t export Lists you create and then import them on other sites, meaning for all 4 sites I had to manually re-do all of it manually. Those are all relatively minor complaints when compared to the end results.
It’s very lightweight and recommended. The Card and 3 Overlay options are nice as well. I recommend it. ??

A plugin from Tom Usborne, you can take it with your eyes closed, clean and light code, no crappy updates with Tom. In addition, the support is very responsive and of exceptional quality.

Perfect! We use it in combination with GeneratePress on every site.

You simply want to show a complete post on a page, without any decoration/read more lines/changes – just as it is? Use this plugin. It is simple, does all what is necessary, but nothing more. And: No pain-in-the-ass adds for “upgrade to PRO”.
BTW: Tom Usborn is the creator of one of the fastest modern WP themes called Generate Press. This man knows what he is doing.

After God knows what updates, the plugin stopped counting posts. It also prevents the Next Page pagination after the post.

I needed a plugin to show a preview of my 3 latest posts on my landing page.
This plugin does a wonderful job. Super easy to use and looks great on my welcome page.
You can customize the post images, preview text and there’s also a “read more” button.
It fits perfectly. I love it!
Thanks for the good job!

I LOVE this plugin. Why this featureset isn’t just intuitively built into WordPress core…I will never know.
Regardless, this plugin is a freaking gem. The little engine that could (if that reference makes sense). I can’t praise this plugin enough, honestly. DOn’t waste your time with similar plugins, I’ve tried them all. Others either require custom code to accomplish similar goals, are in some way lacking, or simple fail to work.
Use WP Show Posts! ??

This is a nice plugin for anybody keen to have a semi-dynamic front page for a blog!
If you use the ‘Random’ setting under ‘more’ and add (as an example) twice the number of post ids than you set in ‘Posts per page’ it will beautifully randomise what’s being shown on the front page.
The way I am using it:
Another possible use: if you would like to add related posts to the end of individual post. This should do it nicely, providing you can edit the css styling. (My theme has ‘Related Posts’ as a built-in feature.)
Thanks for this! I would have loved to find wp-show-posts 2 years ago. ??

I have used several other “Loop management” plugins. WP ShowPosts is the best. One of my sites has 17 WP ShowPosts queries routing posts to specific pages (by category). Another site has 11 queries. They run fast and trouble free. Copy and paste the shortcode on the page or section of the page where you want the post to go.
If you have sites with multiple authors adding content for different sections of the website, they just need to learn how to create posts and select the appropriate category. WP ShowPosts will place the post on the page where it should go. The authors don’t need page level access to place posts on a page.
This is a great plugin!

Ce plugin est vraiment extra. Il permet de préparer des listes d’articles automatiques, avec plein de critères, sur autant de colonnes qu’on veut. Et gère parfaitement le tag ?read more?, ce qui est rare?!

Thank you so much. it’s good for my blog

It’s frustrating trying to get your all important posts displaying so they can show as an excerpt that must be clicked on to continue reading. This is so important because with this plugin the comment block ends up directly beneath the full post. The themes I’m using don’t provide this crucial post formatting.
I also love the flexibility of specifying columns, image size by length and width, and excerpt length. Styles it perfectly, just the way I want it. This is an easy and non-technical plugin to use, which I really appreciate because I’m too busy editing content, etc.
When the Pro version is available I’ll definitely subscribe to it to keep this exceptional work going. Thanks for this great plugin Vancouver Island developing.
