This plugin works as expected even with newer WordPress versions!
One exception to the rule to not use old plugins.
If after disabling it you get 404 error, simply save again, without changes, the permalink options. I tested this and worked fine.

I’ve seen some hacks (re; “.” in the permalinks setting) but this plugin still works best for me. Until WP comes up with a core solution I’ll keep my hopes up that this plugin continues to play nice with the latest install. Cheers!

Yoast SEO is removing this feature from the plugin, and I was warned that in the next update I would lose the ability to use the feature. I searched for a solution (other than the one they suggested, due to low ratings), and came across this plugin. I turned it on, and it does what it says. I tested it and all is well.
