This is a very basic plugin, it only does one thing. There are so many other plugins that do so much more, such as removing transient entries and revisions. However, that can cause issues. As they say, Keep It Simple and that is exactly what this plugin does. It does one thing and does it right.

I have had no problems at all with this plugin. One installed and scheduled, it works away quietly optimising the database.
