Hello,
The Plugin needs an update to be compatible with PHP 7.4 and WordPress 5.8
I see several error messages:
PHP Deprecated: add_option was called with an argument that is deprecated since version 2.3.0 with no alternative available. in /home/xxxxxxx/www/wp-includes/functions.php on line 5610
Thank you very much for building this plugin. But after i update the plugin message field not accepting Shortcode anymore. Basically I use this plugin to show different sliders to user based on their visit.
But after I updated the plugin instead of slider it display me the shortcode.
The WWSD plugin operates successfully when all of my javascript files are loaded as individual HTTP requests, but when I turn on any sort of automatic concatenating plugin (currently using Autoptimize, but I have tried others as well) to load all of my site javascript as a single file I get the following error in console:
Uncaught ReferenceError: jQuery is not defined
I have tried the following to no success:
add_action('wp_footer', 'wwsgd_js', 100);
if ( count <= <?php echo $wwsgd_settings[‘repetition’] ?> ) {
jQuery(“.wwsgd”).show();
}
});` from the plugin’s php file to the bottom of another JS file which I enqueue much later.
No matter what I attempt to do I can never get WWSD to order itself AFTER jQuery so as to avoid the ‘Uncaught ReferenceError: jQuery is not defined’ console error.
I am asking for any helpful ideas. Thank you.
Hello,
If I add a custom summary in my post I got an issue on my homepage on only the previous post summary.
My posts are listed and displayed correctly but I can see one of my post with the Seth Godin text as post summary.

It might be practical to show a certain message once per day, per visitor, for example.
Thanks!
Hello Richard,
I installed the plugin but the message is not showing up.
The html is here but there is a display none in the html code and I got this notice :
Notice: Undefined index: wwsgd_visits in /…/…/wp-content/plugins/what-would-seth-godin-do/what_would_seth_godin_do.php on line 192
Do you have any advice on how I can solve this ?

Hi,
Is it possible to show welcome message based on UTL parameters set.
something like :
If utl_source = XXXX, then show welcome message XXX
Pls let us know.
Thanks,

Hi Richard,
I downloaded and installed WWSGD plugin and customised the message, but it’s not showing on my post.
Here is a post example https://eatdrinkpaleo.com.au/broccoli-slaw-salad-cranberries/
When I select to show on pages and posts, the message does who up on my homepage but not on a post. When I select to show on posts only (before a post), the message box is not displaying. I’ve tried to see if on different browsers, cleared my cookies/cache but still no idea why it’s not displaying for me.
Is the plugin possibly conflicting with something else on my posts? Ads? Other plugins?
Any help would be much appreciated as I’d love to use your plug in.
Thanks,
Irena
I currently have my message before my page posts with an embedded link that sends users to sign up for my newsletter. I would like to track the link clicks on my embedded link (and if possible separate it by individual posts).
How would you suggest I do this?
Thanks in advance,
Fernando
Hi,
I love what your plugin does, but I’d like to change the message background color to a white instead of the current transparent. Is there anyway this may be possible?
Hello,
I just downloaded this plugin but I don’t know anything about coding. Is there a way I can link to my e-mail subscribe box instead of an RSS feed? Or if not, is there other social media channels I can link to? I don’t use RSS right now. If this is possible, please tell me how in lay-mans terms.
Thanks!
~ Kristin
On my mobile phone I can’t get the dotted line to show up in my WWSGD blurb, how do I do that? (I think it looks better with a little separator.)
Thanks!

I’m new to WP, am unfamiliar with PHP itself, and working in a theme through shortcode. I copied the scriptlet into Text(HTML) and it was instantly remarked out by WP. Sticking it in between short code doesn’t work. Is there an entry-level means of getting your plugin to work? Thanks for your help.

Hello,
And thanks a lot for this great plugin. I use it on many websites, and it’s working fine.
I would like to display a message to new visitors customized according to the category of the article they are reading. The way I’m planning to do :
– add a parameter to the wwsgd_the_message() function (like $categories)
– pass it to the wwsgd_get_the_message() function
– in wwsgd_get_the_message(), add some tests according to the categories of the article and tuning the message to display.
This will work, but as soon as an update will appear, the PHP code would be overwritten and my changes lost.
Do you have an idea for a “clean” update-proof way of doing this kind of things ?
Regards
Jérémie
How do I exclude it from appearing on certain posts? Tried everything suggested but it is still showing up. Help
Hi! I love the idea behind this plugin but I’m concerned about cache aspects. I use W3TC to alleviate cpu usage due to high traffic and since this plugin will inject different messages to new and returning visitors, I wanted to be sure if those messages will be cached and shown in incorrect situations, example: a returning visitor open another webpage but the cached page with the mesage for first time visits is shown. This will confuse and annoy users.
Can you confirm please?
Thanks!
Any chance we could change the script URL that gets called by this plugin to use a protocol relative URL versus a static one that causes insecure resource errors when used in a secure environment?

as opposed to

which causes an error?
I’m using this plugin site-wide and when in the secure checkout section of the site, this specific script, being called in the footer is causing certificate warnings.
I’d very much appreciate this quick change. Thanks!
Any chance we could have something where we could provide two or three messages to returning users, so they get to see a different message at random if they are reading several posts on the site?
Hello… hope you are well
I either only just noticed it or it occurred when uninstalling a different plugin. Basically my home page is a list of most recent posts. A page that I can’t get the ID for as I don’t think there is one. And I have just noticed that in the excerpt of the 1st post the text from this plugin shows up. I would prefer for it not to appear on the home page at all.
What solution for this would you suggest. I could do something like.. if is_home but I would need specific directions from you. I’m sure posting that here will help out some more people too!
Thanks
I recently installed the plugin, included my mail chimp subscription form, I cleared my cache in Safari and have Chrome open with wordpress backend up. The message doesn’t Pop up, and I verified my popup blocker is turned off. When I edit the setting to make it appear before or after the post, that works…but what I want is the popup.

There are no settings – I just downloaded the latest version of the Seth Godin plugin. I’m on Thesis 1.8.5. Tips? Thanks-
Hi
I’ve been using WWSGD for a couple of years now, no problems at all. All of a sudden, today, when I uploaded my latest post I discovered that the excerpt that shows on the homepage of my blog at bobinoz.com/blog was displaying the text from the plug-in instead of the first paragraph from my post.
This has never happened before, and the only way to fix it was to disable the plug-in and as soon as I did that and refreshed the page, the excerpt appeared as it should, with the opening text taken from the post.
Any ideas why this might be happening anyone?
Thanks
Bob

Richard,
It is a fantastic idea to be able to distinguish between new and old users.
To start with, I would like to popup a window with a MailChimp newsletter registration form for new users (MailChimp provides embed code) i.e. on first visit. Once users have closed the popup window, they don’t see it again.
Can something like this be achieved with your plugin?

I previously used WWSGD and really liked it. Just installed the updated version and am really disappointed. Absolutely nothing is showing up – there’s no way to adjust anything and I’m not finding any active support. I went to the plugin site and there are a few comments – all from 2011. I’m deleting the plugin.

Hi,
I have got WWSGD on my homepage with
<?php wwsgd_the_message(); ?>
to make sure that new users get a different “welcome message” than people who already visited my site a couple of times.
But I do only get this message when I’m logged in. As soon as I log out, nothing appears there.
I hope that anyone can help me fixing this because I really like the plugin, but it’s useless for me when the message only appears for logged in users.
Greetings,
Johannes

I’ve finally upgraded to WWSGD 2.x and am happy to see the earlier issues I reported have been addressed. Thanks for that.
One remaining issue I find with 2.0.3 is that if I’m loading my own copy of jQuery via wp_enqueue_script, the WWSGD jquery.cookie.js file is loaded before jQuery, with the result that execution fails.
What I’m doing is deregistering the default WP copy of jQuery and loading my own. I’m using the following to do this, where replace_wp_script()
is the function that de/registers jQuery.
add_action('wp', 'replace_wp_script');
WWSGD loads it’s JS like this:
add_action('wp_footer', 'wwsgd_js');
The result is that your JS is loaded before jQuery, with predictable results. The following trivial change to the priority fixes this:
add_action('wp_footer', 'wwsgd_js', 100);
Thanks!

Hi Richard.
Love the WWSGD plugin!
I’m doing some work increasing the load time of my site (https://scdlifestyle.com) and continue to get a 404 error on my jquery.cookie.js file.
In fact, when I try to access the file in the wp editor of WWSGD I get the same error.
Here’s the URL of my js file: https://scdlifestyle.com/wp-content/plugins/what-would-seth-godin-do/jquery.cookie.js
Any idea what’s going on? I’ve deleted and re-installed the plugin but continue to get the error.
Thanks,
Jordan
