This stuff is the real deal: just an app that works, no hassling like premium versions or special features. Thank you.

It works. It’s seamless. It provides clear explanations of all the options. It’s done with the nicest, selfless hacker mindset there is.

While many other optimization plugins try to reduce the server work and get you to use their cloud solution (and pay), this plugin does the most suitable job. Converts the files on request from the end user, doing it on the server. Creating the required sizes and later serving the other users those images.
Practically, if you upload the image and preview your post/page, the converted file is there and no more waiting. No payments, no bloatware.
With popular plugins that’s mostly not the case as they do the bulk conversion by sending the files to their servers and of course – if you pay for it – send back the files when they can. It can take quite some time and often having issues as the sync can run into various troubles on your or their side.
Meaning that with other plugins you may have to wait to have optimized images served (if ever).
With this one, you have it there from the start.
Fantastic job!

The plugin which do what it should do. Nothing more!

Works perfectly well. Just make sure to read the documentation and that your server has the proper rules enabled.

This WordPress plugin is working really well for me on a Multisite setup with Subdirectories. Additionally, I’ve configured a custom folder for image uploads in the root directory, outside of the wp-content folder. All of this is installed on a server running Debian OS, Plesk Panel, and Nginx. To achieve this, I had to tweak the Nginx configuration in Plesk, specifically in the “Web and Domains” section and then in “Apache and Nginx Settings” within the Plesk control panel. Here, I was able to input the Nginx configuration code as per the instructions provided by the plugin developer. While the first configuration option for Nginx didn’t work for me, the second option of “Alternative rules (using ‘rewrite’)” did. Now, with WordPress Multisite set up with subdirectories and a custom uploads folder, the webp images are served seamlessly, redirecting to JPG in older browsers. I really appreciate the effort put in by the plugin developer to provide these configuration options and make everything work smoothly. Thank you very much.

This plugin has an impressive amount of features and configuration options when it comes to converting and delivering WebP images. However, this can also be intimidating, and the UI is quite dry and technical. Highly recommended for advanced users, but maybe not the right choice for the avarage WordPress user.

Very good, congratulations on the plugin

Converted only few files. Thanks God did not brake anything for a while.
The only question: WHY this is here?!
]]>Rating: 1 star
Está falhando na instala??o, tanto via painel do admin quanto enviando o plugin diretamente via FTP. Uma pena, pois etilizei em diversos projetos.

This plugin does not convert all the images to WebP and it is hard to get any support from this plugin author.

We use Webp Express in each of our projects. It works great

Used in tandem with “Plus WebP” for the conversion part, this plugin solved a rewrite issue I was having when using a CDN. I will go straight to this plugin in future!

This plugin broke a bunch of my site images, the developer is nonresponsive in the support forums.
Attention moderator: this is NOT a support request, it is a review. I am not looking for help with this plugin or seeking any kind of response or assistance, because I already uninstalled it. I am relating my experience with it for benefit of people considering using it, a review, not a support request.

Use it with genaratepress and only for jpgs on my blog. Except for an short htaccess problem I caused myself, it has been working stably for years. It has been speeding up my website for almost 4 years. The image quality is absolutely fine for normal websites. The fallback works. I can recommend it.

Tried all the operation modes, followed instructions. Turned off cloudflare, turned off my cache plugins, tried different browsers. Only once I saw it convert something to webp, but that was after the fact, then never again. Always original .jpg files. I don’t get it. Perhaps I’ve missed something, but geeze I really tried.

The plugin delivers. highly recommended.

works out of the box IF you know what you are doing. I use docker, nginx, apache, CloudFlare cache and autoptimize and it still works… incredible

I’m using it in most of my sites with Performance Lab plugin and I had no problems providing / compressing my images to WebP. Thank you for providing this plugin!

My website image are stored in specific plugin’s upload folder.
I selected ‘all content’ in settings.
Plugin shows, that more then 5000 images was converted.
But I still see only jpg and png images on my website.
Useless plugin!

I tried each and every step for hours until I installed Converter for Media – Convert WebP and AVIF & Optimize Images | Ease image optimization. With a few simple clicks WebP images are served.

Always a pleasant surprise to come across a very well written plugin that out performs what it suggests and without all the nag/links/upgrade/GoToPro. Nice and simple interface, easy configuration and works perfectly. You will find one link “Buy The Developer A Coffee” and I certainly will, thank you. Miss these days and types of developers.

It is a game changer for Cloudflare free tier users. Thanks to “CDN friendly” + Replace image URLs you can serve WebPs. Also the “on demand” concept is great!
Hat off dev, donation well deserved.

Congratulations for your great work Bjorn!
I was extremely happy to “buy you a coffee” for your effort that is invaluable to community. It is one of these cases that I felt now just compelled but obliged.
If I may add one suggestion this will be the support for wildcard directories in the command:
wp webp-express convert <directory>
In my case as I have over 200k photos these are split in over 2000 directories (for access performance reasons) and it will be great if say I could have a command like
wp webp-express convert uploads/2021/06* that will convert the directories from
uploads/2021/0600 to uploads/2021/0699
Also, for some of us that have thumbnails for so many images (e.g. over 1.5 million thumbs) it will be great to know your recommendations regarding performance. Shall we do first the thumbnails and then convert them to webp or do the webp conversion and then generate the thumbnails.
Keep up the good work!
Dimitris
