As many other reviewers have pointed out, this plugin imports a single-image post and puts the image in a gallery. That is pretty much useless.

I just installed this on my local XAMPP box to backup my blogs before the Tumblrpocalypse, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it still works flawlessly for text and image posts (which is all I have on my blogs)…photographers rejoice!

This gave me oauth errors when adding my site. What I did was edited the code to replace all https://tumblr.com with HTTPS.
However, when imported, its not really importing stuff properly. So there’s that…

Doesn’t import video, or even hotlink to it – caption is imported but not the video.
Images in text posts are hotlinked and not copied to media.
Works OK for text posts, but that’s not really what I need it for.

This plugin does not seem to import posts. It continually hangs even after clearing account information and trying again. Would really appreciate an update.
Thanks!

As others mentioned, it works ok for text but does not handle media posts well. Plugin has not been updated in over 2 years and developer doesn’t respond to support. AVOID!

Sadly doesn’t work for media, not in 2017 at least. Tried both on 4.7.2 and 4.1.15, same result either way. It saves me some time by creating the posts and syncing the post date, however it hotlinks images, and doesn’t import the text very well (sentences get broken up into lines instead of flowing properly into a paragraph). Probably due to Tumblr changing some stuff, I dunno. Appreciate the plugin regardless, 50% time saved is better than 0% time saved.

Text posts come up OK, but anything else has problems.

The importer worked well, maintained all the categories and tags etc, so I thought this was going to be a great, instant solution to cloning all my Tumblr content in a searchable, dynamically indexed way within my site. Unfortunately though, the way it handles content was not what I expected nor especially useful.
My tumblr posts are almost exclusively in the ‘image’ category and I had assumed the ‘importer’ would clone the geography of my blog but while still linking to the images/content hosted by tumblr. Instead it replaced all my images with scaled down duplicates that it hosted in the wp content folder. Why would I want this? Why would I want all my content replaced by essentially thumbnail duplicates and why would I want a bunch of media hosted on my own site?
The whole point of moving to web 2.0 services is to avoid the bandwidth and attack problems associated with hosting ones own files. I had assumed I was getting a new way to present already hosted content, in much the way that various dynamic galleries I use fish my content on other services. But no, I suddenly find my ftp filling up with hundreds of clone images? Seems a bit pointless.
Shame, because otherwise it worked.
Please update in such a way as you’re not actually ‘importing’ media, only the blog dynamics. And that the externally hosted media is presented desirably…

I have about 7,000 tumblr posts so i was a bit skeptical but after I entered the information correctly for the API key it worked perfectly. make sure you enter all THREE fields on the Registration page otherwise you will get an error on your site and possible crash.
However i do want to warn people deactivate all social media sharing sites you have connected to wordpress before importing! Since i had Jetpack’s publicize and IFTTT installed, it also duplicated all of these posts back to tumblr, linkedin, twitter, facebook page, etc. which resulted in a TON of cleaning up to do as all my social media feeds have my old tumblr posts on them.
hope this can help save someone else out there who tries it!

4 tries, last one I waited 12 hours and it still didn’t import even 1 post. I only have 20 posts to import!
RUBBISH!!!

If I was moving from tumblr to WordPress, as the plugin was designed for, this works perfectly. As a method of mirroring/syncing my tumblr & wordpress, its not automated, so not quite what I am looking for.

Not very useful, if you mostly post images on tumblr.

Single images are imported as a “gallery”. The post only contains a ridiculous thumbnail. The issue has been raised many times since 2012. Time to fix it maybe? ??

It works perfect. I was looking for a solution like this.

This is the only importer that works in a efficiente way.

[Review edited upon further investiagation; I’d now give this 4 of 5 stars]
The importer portion of the plughin seemed to work generally fine, but it appeared to wreak havoc on my Tumblr account. Initially I thought it had deleted and heavily modified my Tumblr posts, but it turns out that they are all rewritten and then reposted to Tumblr with modified URL’s to point at the imported WP posts. I’m sure this didn’t do any favors to anyone subscribed to my RSS feeds.
Further, it would have been far better had the posts been imported into WP as “drafts” or “pending review” and allowed me to publish them as desired. Instead they import as “published” which wouldn’t have been so bad if some of the Jetpack social media integration didn’t auto-post the hundreds of them in bulk to four different social media platforms. I ended up spending more time cleaning out the social media cruft that vomited into Twitter, Facebook, G+, etc. than it would have taken to cut and paste all the content over by hand. The expected behavior should be better delineated so this social media fail could have been avoided.
Those using JetPack, IFTTT, or other social media plugins should DEFINITELY turn them off prior to using this. I can’t imagine the problems that might occur if you’ve got an auto-post from WP to Tumblr turned on when using this.
