This is a great plugin, but it’s suffering from neglect!
Is it compatible with PHP 7.0+? WordPress 4.8+??
Will it be updated soon? Or is it now abandoned?
]]>I’ve been using Totally Booked for a couple years and love it. But I’m totally and utterly flummoxed about a new problem I’ve come up on.
My oldest site is running the same version of WP and the TB plugin. (I even changed to the same theme for a little while to see if that would work – and it didn’t.)
In both the older site and the newer site, the book cover is the size it should be in the widgets area and on pages – like https://www.breecariad.com/love-conquers-all/
In the older site, short codes put into the posts work perfectly – https://blog.thiannad.com/2016/08/8-29-sedstuds.html
However, when I put the short code into a post on the new site, suddenly everything goes wonky – https://www.breecariad.com/one-pulse-anthology-is-available-for-preorder/ If the image would display correctly, then the alignment would be right, but instead, it and the buy links button are itty bitty.
Where I’m flummoxed is because I went through and made sure both sites have the same versions of WP, PHP, & Totally Booked. I even tried using the same theme on the new site, but in Live Preview it looked great. However, when I activated the theme, the images were back to itty bitty.
Has anyone run into this? And knows what setting needs to be changed to stop posts from thumbnailing the book cover?
]]>Hi there, can I add other books and authors – ie not “my” books? just any books from Amazon or another ebook seller?
]]>Your “other notes” tab on this page lists some shortcodes, but it doesn’t list one to display all the books, nor any arguments to control the formatting of the output.
I was able to figure out a way to get it to display all the books, but I don’t see any way to control what information is included in the book list.
Could you please address this in your documentation? Thanks.
Also, I’m finding that the default arrangement of the books is poor. See here: all books page. There’s a single narrow column of book images with two buttons underneath and no text. A book cover isn’t enough to sell a book or to generate click-through. Also from an SEO perspective, there are no words on the page to suggest what the book is about, so this page will have poor search relevance. Can’t you give us a “blurb” or something that would appear only in the book list?
The formatting of book pages is also poor, as you can see at this page. The text is displayed on the graphic background, and is therefore unreadable. It appears you made the structure of this post type very different from a typical post, resulting in unpredictable results on themes that don’t meet your assumptions.
I understand you might think it’s tricky to accommodate all possible themes, but I’ve used many plugins that create their own page types, and I haven’t had this problem.
Please don’t delay to look at the above links, because I don’t want to leave this non-useful plugin active indefinitely.
]]>ok so this is horrible!
The idvidual book pages were coming together so well ( for example https://aheliapublishing.com/books/the-fowlers-snare-beyond-solstice-gates/?preview_id=3558&preview_nonce=f0f79bb073&preview=true )
But try to put them into a menu “Browse books by Genre” and its a disaster!
The blurbs have no formatting or spacing.
For example, if the genre “Fiction” is chosen, it displays all the books under fiction but it is a hodgepodge. There is no formatting- everything smooshed together and it looks really really bad.
What can be done?
We need to have a sidebar or top bar menu.
Thanks
Jo
I would have included a screen shot but i don’t see anyway to upload it to my message
]]>I am so so SOOOOO happy to have found this plugin!
You have no idea how long I was searching for something like this, simple, straight forward, and allowing me to put the books in as many categories as I like.
Quick question, is there a way to change the font size etc…
When you look at my “muck around pages” you’ll see that ISBN number and the “view more books” area don’t blend that well with the rest of the page…
Any idea?

]]>Hi,
I’m new to your plugin and currently using it, but upon publishing my new book I could not see the the text and only the title and the isbn of the book.
I have no idea how it would work.

]]>Hello, I’m building a site for a tech writer, and most of his books are on either: ConversationalGeek, Quepublishing, apress, etc. Is there a way to use this plugin?
Thanks,

Hello,
and thanks for the nice plugin.
I’ve tried to build a plugins/totally-booked folder in my theme because I need to make some changes to both the template and the widget, but apparently it does not work. I am using genesis and a child theme, so I’ve tried to create the folder both in genesis and in the child theme folder, but it does not work.
I’ve now modified the plugin folder, but I’d rather not do that.
Any idea of what may be the problem?
Thanks so much

]]>I can successfully display on a page a gallery of titles in one genre using this shortcode:
[tb_genre_gallery slug="fiction"]
But when I try to display a single book using this shortcode, I get nothing at all:
[tb_book slug="134"]
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,

]]>Hello,
All I see is the featured image and a “buy now” button with the ISBN number. What is going on?
Also, is there a way to build a “Book” landing page using this plugin?
Thanks.
]]>I am trying to create a landing page so I can track traffic for my book sales. I need a simple page that lists all of my books with their buy links and have heard a landing page is the way to go. On almost all of the threads on this site, the people are speaking a foreign “techie” language. I am an extreme layman when it comes to working with WordPress and need step by step info on how to do this. There was one thread I found where a guy was trying to do something similar, and he figured it out, but, alas, I could not understand how he did it due to very little explanation and/or I simply didn’t understand what he did. “Ken,
It would be fairly simple to create a normal page within WordPress, with your author names/bios, organize them alphabetically, and link them to the relevant books pages generated by TotallyBooked.” I have looked up the url https://www.dinahaynes.com/books with my website inserted and there is a blank page. Here is the link to my website. Please, help…
Not sure why but books are Huge, can someone give an idea how i can fix this ??
]]>Great plugin. So user friendly, but the problem I’m having is that I’d like to leverage the theme that I’ve purchased as the /books and book pages aesthetic is not suited to the rest of the theme.
I read a couple of your other posts, but was unable to locate a fix in this case…
Here’s what my page looks like with the plugin:
where I’d rather it be formated like the rest of my post lists:

Can you help?

Is there a quick fix for this?

]]>Hello Kelli and Ben:
I’m building a site for an author who’s published almost 100 books over fifty years. He’d much prefer to link directly to his various publishers’ online sales pages – rather than to Amazon, et al – when possible.
Is there a way that I can add additional online bookseller links? I’ve been browsing the plugin folders/files, and while I’ve found where the logo images are stored, I haven’t found where the individual retailers (retailer_link?) are defined.
Thanks!

]]>Hi,
I am a wordpress newbie so I guess I may miss something obvious.
How can I make a link/page in the menu of my site under which I could have “book” posts created by TotallyBooked plugin?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Ben,
I am enjoying your plugin and it seems to work all right, but I have an issue I recently noticed:
I’m using the theme’s (Iconic One Pro) “Recent Posts” widget in the sidebar and the book archive does not seem to be updating this. It’s correct on all the other pages.
Are you using any kind of caching for the books archiv? Any other ideas?
Thanks, Peter
]]>Hi!
I′ve just created my book-posts and used the post slider plugin to get all together on my Library′s page (in portuguese, BIBLIOTECA). The thing is that when I click on the post slider, choosing a book to be shown, I can′t get into that book′s page… a blank page with NOTHING FOUND (404 error) appers.
Did I do anything wrong? Can you help me with this?
Thanks,

]]>Hey guys, Thanks so much for the great plugin. I’m a functional WP hack. I can muck around in my FTP some, and I end up helping friends with this type of thing a lot. (We are all writers).
I’m trying to help a publisher friend who has around 90 books published. We love your plugin and the fact you have the short code that can list gallery style using taxonomies.
[tb_genre_gallery slug=”the-genre-slug”]
But, at the moment I can’t figure out how to make the books list horizontally in the gallery instead of vertically (his catalogue would go on scrolling down forever). Is there an easy hack for this? Could you point me toward the right place in the code maybe?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
]]>Howdy. Am I blind, or is there no way to select a page template? Right now it just shows up on the default, but I’d like to use a different template.
Maybe there is a way to display the entire book list with a single shortcode, or do I have to copy/paste each book shortcode individually into a template page? That seems tedious.
Other than a few nits, It seems to work. Thanks for this.
kevin
Our client only sells on Amazon so I was wondering if there’s a way to bypass the pop-up and have the “buy now” button link directly to amazon. Or better yet, replace the “buy now” button with the amazon button? I can work with the code. Thanks, kevin
]]>I uploaded the ‘Totally Booked widget. I want to add a bookstore in the right sidebar of my site’s blog page. I created my Amazon Affliate account looked up a book to copy/paste the code into.
Issue : when I preview it, it appears on a page I can’t find and it isn’t contained at all. I want to make it look like a bookshop.
I can’t find any examples of what this widget is supposed to look like loaded with books and a step-by-step on how to create it.
Any help?
Thanks, Lynn
]]>Hi,
I believe this would be templating, but I’m not sure how to do it. Would you be able to give me a hint on how to get the individual books to use the same post template the regular blog posts do? I need to be able to include a sidebar and have the individual books behave the same way regular posts do.
Thanks!
]]>Okay, I’ve just picked up where someone else started all this, dropped the ball, and then jumped ship. We are using WordPress 3.9.2 with Jarida and Totally-booked.
None of our author pages have the author name at the top. Instead they all read “Ordered somehow”. How do I get it to read the author name? (as an example you can see it here – https://www.lazydaypub.com/tb-author/alexa-darin/

I am having problems with displaying books on my front page – it seems to clash with WP customer reviews, and is picking up some of the text from there. Website is here:

Any ideas about how to resolve this?
Thanks for you time.

I know there is already a resolved post, but that’s a solution for programmers. Is there a solution for normal people?
