There are a number of older theme switcher plugins, which may or not still work. This ones does what it says it does flawlessly, is kept up to date, and its author is well respected in the community and is actively supporting the plugin.

This one’s the winner!

It works well, but it would be nice to chose what themes can users set even on a single site install, this way it adds some not yet finished themes by just pulling all the themes located in wp-themes.

Fantastic plugin and a great idea.

Allows admin to set up a theme on a live site, while everyone else still sees the original theme.

I know nothing about coding, so can’t comment on that side, but from the perspective of a ‘point and click’ user, its ….. brilliant.

There are several theme switching plugins in the wild, but many of them are outdated and do not make use of WP’s Theme API, which means they trigger a bunch of warnings when WP_DEBUG is set to true. This plugin is well coded, uses the current APIs, and best of all, works. Various filters are provided allowing developers to customize the behavior of the plugin. Good stuff!
