Although I badly need a plugin such as this, once I tried it, all of my settings and widgets from my active theme were reverted and I had to put my site into maintenance mode while I spent 20 minutes configuring everything again!

Seems to work OK with 4.6.1 but it would be good if the developer could conform and update “officially” as it were. I’m finding this plugin invaluable for sites with pupblic-facing themes that are incompatible with the CiviCRM plugin. Civi is a complex plugin and can easily break when faced with themes or other plugins that aren’t well written in terms of enqueuing scripts only when essential. Much of the complexity in Civi is on admin pages, and this plugin solves the problem by auto-switching the theme to something clean for admin users.

nice and simple solution to test a theme. be careful with widgets and custom settings for other plugins. thanks

Same experience as walkerdesigngroup: doesn’t work! ?? I feel so frustrated…

A great tool to preview new themes to see if it’s worth changing. Especially for someone that’s not very technical. A+

Great tool for theme developers to test theme dev on live site, without impacting the live site. Great for test drives, compatiblity checking, and also side by side eval of themes you’re building when you have one version at an alpha stage and want to test beta changes, then switch back for next dev stage.
Note for newbies and the clueless — this plugin does *not* allow you to build out an entire site, set all options, menus, widgets, and then switch site live with the test version.
This is intended to TEST a theme you’re not going to switch on from the TEST phase. WP does not support keeping widgets intact when changing themes, natively since the functions file changes which specifies which widgets are being instantiated (duh).
So, it works wonderfully for its intended purposes.
it does NOT make coffee, however, damn it ! ??

Works well and haven’t encountered any issues at all. Thank you Vladimir.

When I consider a new plugin, I first read all the “1” reviews, noticing the dates and WP versions. Then I look at the “5” reviews, again noting the dates/WP versions.
I was a little scared to try this plugin because of the negative reviews … but I’d already activated it, and had backed up my site before doing that, so I took a chance.
But, it’s all worked out just fine: it’s doing what I’d hoped and needed.
What a relief.
I didn’t give it 5 stars because it seems to require more than my “junior geek” level of skill and understanding to use (limited web design knowledge, completely self-taught).
But, that means I can’t fully evaluate its
capabilities: it might be a 5, or it might be a 3; I don’t have the expertise to know which it is.

This plugin had become one of my lifelines in testing and developing themes. Works perfect!

This plugin worked fine in the test phase, however when I deactivated it, I lost all my widgets, in the widget areas I coded in. Finnicky plugins like this shouldn’t be allowed to be distributed, I used this on a site I was developing at work, now I have to contact my hosting support, restore the site, do everything the hard way to work around this crappy plugin. All the while there is a client waiting for their new theme to be released.

Used it to perfect results. Saved me a lot of trouble as I’m not tech-savvy.

This plugin is working properly and it is a lifesaver. You can adjust your next theme under visitor’s nose ?? Great plugin.

I just tested this plugin and so far everything works perfect. What an awesome plugin for helping change the theme of your site. I was dreading spending all the extra time I would need to without this plugin.
Thanks for your hard work!

Going to guess that this plugin works with some themes and not others. Installed, doesn’t work.

This just works. ??

Very usefull plugin. Thanks a lot.

If the theme isn’t working properly, then it messes up the entire wordpress website. Your website will still be up, but wordpress will turn up a blank page under administrator! You won’t be able to change anything!

Lost everything

A nice idea, works better than WP’s own native preview functionality!

What a great plugin – this has resolved the worst issue of WordPress, which is not being able to work on a new theme behind the scenes whilst another theme is live. Now you can with this plugin! It’s great. No more fiddling with urls and pointing or transferring websites over. Thanks very much!

Yes as a logged in Admin you can see the new theme, but useless for working on the new theme. Looking at all the settings like Theme options etc, they are still all showing the current theme and not the new theme..

This is so great for switching themes on a site. You (as an admin) can see the new theme and begin working with it, while everyone else sees the old theme. Pretty straightforward, but super helpful, especially in situations where you don’t want to “fork” your site and work on changes on a separate WP install.

Hi, I used this plugin with my last theme test and it worked great! However, it looks like it may not work with the latest version of WordPress. Any change this plugin will be updated? I’d love to continue using it…

This no longer works with the lastest version of WordPress at all. Just a bunch of gobbly gook when I go to view theme.

Works!

switched the theme and tested it. works like a charme.
]]>Rating: 1 star
I might be using it wrong, but the fact that you can′t assign Widgets or Menus to the “testing” theme renders this plugin nearly useless. I ended up making a duplicate of the install on a different folder (as usual)
