Very outdated style, it doesn’t look good.

I want the discord icon in my Social Media Widget

Easy to use. I like the flexibility of listing the services in whatever order I want. I also like that I can customize for a service that is not listed.
Only thing I don’t like is the out-of-the box-Instagram icon is their former branding ( brown icon instead of the new pink one). I can get around this by doing a custom icon, but it would be great if it were correct in the regular Instagram line.

It was good last year. Not so much anymore. Locks you out to get your email address and sell you something else.

This plugin will eventually prevent you from logging in to your WordPress site – if that’s your idea of fun – then go ahead!

Good job

Great Job!

It has become one of the essential items I first install when creating a new project.

I want free version, just free.
I don’t want to see their promotional ads on my dashboard, so no to this plugin!

Banner that popped up at the top to advertise their services and other plugins. There was no option to disable the banner or prevent it from popping up again. Saw it had a notice at the bottom begging for a review, so here it is. Don’t put annoying ads in your plugin.

I love this plugin, it’s easy to use with many options for your icons and a serious number of available sites/feeds/ etc available all categorized.
I gave five-stars but have noticed some sites listed no longer exist and this should be cleaned up.
i.e. “Buzz” (buzzfeed comes up, I can’t find “buzz” and “friendfeed” closed shop around mid-2015. I’m still checking others.
Nonetheless, the plugin works and performs well. KUDOS to the author.

Great work! Many thanks. Everything work as expected.

I had been using the plug in for several years with no issue and tried to install it on a client’s site.
To activate and customize the plug in (aka, add social media platforms) you have to go through subscription pages and sharing without even an opportunity to evaluate the quality of the material they are pushing. Stay away. I am removing their plug in and will look for a decent one

Every admin page in our entire MU network is covered in spam advertising and multiple admin notices… very very unappealing…

thank you

I administer a WordPress network for a University with about 300 sites. I was appalled to find that a recent update of this plugin snuck a banner advertisement into the WordPress admin dashboard (the top of the plugins page). Advertisements within the plugin’s own settings pages are sort of okay, but this crosses the line.
I am considering removing the plugin from our network, but first I have to inventory which sites are actually using the widget and manually configure a replacement.
For now at least, I was able to add the following code to a custom plugin.
function remove_spam_social_widget_notice() {
if ( function_exists( 'socialwidget_global_notice' ) ) {
remove_action( 'admin_notices', 'socialwidget_global_notice');
}
}
add_action('admin_notices', 'remove_spam_social_widget_notice', 9);
function remove_spam_social_widget_menu() {
if ( function_exists( 'socialwidget_top_level_menu' ) ) {
remove_action( 'admin_menu', 'socialwidget_top_level_menu' );
}
}
add_action('admin_menu', 'remove_spam_social_widget_menu', 9);

I’ve been on the fence about this plugin for a long time; it’s convenient enough, but I always find myself having to add custom icons for networks that seem pretty standard to me. (I mean: no Spotify? Really?) And I always ended up tweaking the appearance of the icons, but whatever.
These things were annoying, but with the last update they have added a separate, unnecessary, valueless tab to the admin interface that ONLY exists to get people to sign up for their email lists and use their other plugins. No function, just marketing. NOT OKAY. Real estate in the admin page tab bar is valuable; this is a violation of your users’ trust.
I’ve had it on my list of things to do to replace this plugin with my own code for quite a while; now I’m motivated to get it done.

I wasn’t the one that selected this plugin to use on the site in question, but I hadn’t had any real troubles out of it (other than the inability to order the social links if using custom icons). Today, updated the plugin to find that it added a banner to admin panel trying to get me to sign up for some service and use other plugins. I would be fine if this was just on the plugin’s settings page, but its all over the admin which is highly unwelcome. At little as social media accounts change, when I find time I’ll be adding these URLs via a widget myself and uninstalling this plugin.

After the update today my Widgets Under Header disappeared and I am not happy. I have used the widget for s long time but even deactivating it did not bring the widget back. Has anyone else had this problem.

I’ve been using Social Media Widget for a long time and I’m really satisfied.
It works perfectly with my bilingual blog. In the English version I put a Facebook link to my English Facebook page and the other way around on my Portuguese page.
Have all the same for Twitter, Google + and so on
Here are examples of two pages:
https://outofyourcomfortzone.net/how-to-buy-travel-insurance/ (English)
https://foradazonadeconforto.com/como-escolher-e-comprar-seguro-de-viagem/ (Brazilian Portuguese)
Thank you for the great Plugin!!

I use this plug in on many of my sites. It lists a large amount of profile icons plus looks great on my desktop and phone.

It was my favorite plugin for social follow, but now that i read about the spam stuff, and indeed, the last reply from the author was 2 years ago, so i would not trust it anymore. Even if he didn’t put on purpose and fixed it, it’s a too long time meanwhile. I liked the simple display in the sidebar, and found two alternatives, Floating Social Media Icon and Social Media Feather, both even smaller in size than this one, and especially: up-to-date

I’ve used this on many sites. It’s a quick and easy way to get links into any widget, for any number of websites where someone may have a presence. Love it!

ok. guess I can request reconsideration from Google now.
I am indebted to this forum for confirming my suspicions.
it really is a shame, because this plugin did exactly what it claimed. I still have it in a back up and I just might have to hack it to bits and see what might be reclaimed from the wreckage. i’ll take what I want in compensation for my time.
so much talent wasted on the malevolent and desperate.

I searched for a twitter for y’all to try to more publicly applaud you. I’ve spent the past hour flickering through methods to use custom social media icons and it just. wasn’t. working.
Then I HAPPENED across this plug in and it saved my website <3
The tutorial on how to use custom icons is so easy to follow. Thank you so much. When I’m less poor, you’re on my list of people to donate to.

Works flawlessly with WordPress version 4.4
The reason I choose to use this is because it is the ONLY completely FREE and CUSTOMIZABLE social media plugin I have been able to find.
Even for Behance or any other site, you can upload your own choice of icons, and use it with this plugin!
There used to be some potentially malicious code in this plugin but thankfully, it was removed a long time ago.
