Good day Mr. Raschendorfer,
during our debug control routine we get the following warning:
Warning: Undefined array key “SERVER_ADDR” in /some/path/wp-content/plugins/smart-user-slug-hider/inc/class-smart-user-slug-hider.php on line 53
We prefer to have this fixed at the code level before reaching out to our server colleagues.
Please give us some feedback.
Thank you very much!
any help to use this on posts/pages slugs?
]]>Hi, after I activated the plugin, the links from BuddyBoss (member portal) did not work anymore. When I deactivate the plugin, everything works as expected. Are there any settings I can make?
]]>If you use the well known hack ?author=1 you will get a 16 digit code. At that point go to the source code you will find the author’s name. It actually shows the nickname so a workaround would be to always use a nickname because if you don’t then the author name is shown. This image shows the issue. I’ve redacted the username. https://prnt.sc/6xH5NJoGL07F
Are you able to update the plug in to avoid this?
I’ve just installed it to reduce hacking attacks on my site and found it clean and simple as described (five stars); but I did find one small problem, possibly unique to me:-
My domain name is same as my username (yes, I know, I shouldn’t have done it that way, but how was I to know about this WordPress security flaw when I first started out?)
There is no problem on the site and all pages and links seem to be working normally except my user profile page, which is reporting the error, because the username is in two places, front and rear, not just the end of the link.
I CAN live with this because I will never be visiting my own page and I don’t expect most people will be finding it. However, it does suggest you will need to think of a little tweak in the future to ensure only username is hidden in that link and not the preceding elements on the full link.
]]>Hi,
we are using this plugin on an up to date WordPress page, with PHP 7.4 and nginx.
Our debug.log is filled with notices from this plugin:
PHP Notice: Undefined index: SERVER_ADDR
Path: smart-user-slug-hider/inc/class-smart-user-slug-hider.php
The $_SERVER['SERVER_ADDR'];
variable can be used without any problems by PHP files.
It would be great to have this fixed and also have this plugin tested with the most current WordPress version.
Thanks!
]]>Hi.
Now i start to learn wordpress and create WP sites. But have sites done with other cms (Google sites)
Have a domain ex. https://www.мой-сайт.рф
And buy a hosting – they say – i may create site if i edit file hosts on MY PC Windows 10 – in order to – i must see new site at WP and develop and all other users at that time saw old site.
and in that case seems plugin not works correct –
when i activate
Plugin: Smart User Slug Hider
it sent me to user url that doesnt exist:
https://мой-сайт.рф/8578d8f549413240/8578d8f549413240xn—-itbqff1b.xn--p1ai/8578d8f549413240?author=1
Hosts file record, ex:
111.222.333.444 xn—-itbq.xn--p1ai https://www.xn—-itbq.xn--p1ai
Seems it some kind of bug
Hi Peter, hope you are well.
I spotted the following problem with this plugin…
Sometimes one needs to disable plugins for troubleshooting.
I noted that when this plugin is deactivated and reactivated it generates a new encrypted slug for users.
In creating the new slug, the old slug is deleted, so references to it in the db are now invalid.
Now all previously published posts link to a non-existing user, so they cause 404 errors.
This makes the use of the plugin very risky for client user experience.
Any ideas to address this matter?
Thanks for your time!

I gave this plugin a 5 star review just recently but I’ve just created a new WordPress website using php 7.3 but someone has just tried to hack in and used the correct username. I checked the source code and it appears quite clearly as:
<body class=”archive author author-john-54 author-1…..”>
Can this be fixed or is my five star review no longer valid?
]]>Hi, I installed the plugin and works fine. Now I see the new coded slug and help me a lot. But there’s something still to fix. I checked that if I visit the old slug (with the real name) it’s still working and redirects to the coded one.
This means that if someone try something like /johnsmith will provably get to a real person, even if this person have the official slug coded
What I need is to disable the old slug.
How can I do it?
Thanks

]]>Hi,
just a note to let you know your plugin code is using a deprecated function with PHP 7.1 and to ask you if you plan to fix it and when.
PHP Deprecated:??Function mcrypt_encrypt() is deprecated in /public_html/wp-content/plugins/smart-user-slug-hider/inc/class-smart-user-slug-hider.php on line 222
I read about different solutions to make it compliant with PHP 7.1 and 7.2, but I let this to your expertise.
Thanks
]]>Hi,
I would like to hide the username within the url of the buddypress member pages. I have this plugin activated but the username still appears. I tried inserting the [smart_user_url] shortcode on the members page but that didn’t work.
Do you have any suggestions? I’m not a developer but I may be able to make use of the get_smart_user_slug( $author_id ) and the_smart_user_slug( $author_id ) if some instructions were provided.
Thanks for the help,
Cathy
]]>Hallo, ich habe bislang einen Link zur Autorenseite in der Form:
domain.de/author/[user_login]
Mit dem Plugin geht das natürlich nicht mehr. Wie kann ich das umgehen?
This looks like a really useful tool for a very real need. I have installed it on my multisite with network activate. It masks the username with a random set of letters and numbers. When you click the link it generates a 404 error.
Any chance we can make this multisite friendly?
