After trying to sign up on their website for a few weeks I finally was able to do so. they had a registration issue I guess. Proceeding to the subscription tab I was not able to complete the registration because an coding error in the script not accepting any country I elected.
I tried to use the free version but I was not able to save a walkthrough after naming it.
I guess I’ll try to find an other solution to tutor my client. After a full month no response from the “helpdesk” not one but Zero Stars for this plugin.

This is an interesting and potentially very useful concept for sure, but the execution seems a bit off. I started to follow one of the tutorials, it asked me to click on a specific link, I clicked said link, and then the plugin kept telling me that it was not registering clicks while in audio mode or something like that.. if they mean for this tool to help newbies, it’s potentially going to cause frustration more than good. Seems like an obvious bug that needs to be fixed.

Somehow it keeps switching to audio only which makes it impossible to follow along with the walk through.
And then it asks me to upgrade. So much for it being free …

Had a conflict with an old version of a theme and instead of the usual “not our problem” SideKick just fixed it on their end in less than one day.

Use this plugin across my sites as a helpful stepping stone for those who are not used to WordPress.
However, with the most recent update (2.2.0) there is a bug in the version #’s so it appears to always need an update. If that could be tuned, that’d be nice.

Good plugin

Don’t listen to the negativity. Sidekick is incredible. It will help you and your clients immensely. Support is terrific as well.
Give it a try and you’ll find out for yourself.
Everybody makes missteps now and then. I, for one, am not going to let that get in the way of supporting a superb company. Ben Fox and the crew have done a magnificent job of putting together a true gem of an automatic support system.
Sidekick Pro is a game changer. Believe that.
P.S. -Make sure you upgrade. You’ll thank me later. ??

How can this plugin not have a higher rating. It runs flawlessly and provides AMAZING support for my users. It saves me SO much time and is so easy to use. So what if it cost a little bit to have access to the other tutorials. They give you enough free tutorials that allows this plugin to be very useful without the subscription service. They have done a good job at balancing the free tutorials with the paid tutorials and I appreciate that.
Can’t wait to see where this plugin ends up in a few years.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

This plugin was installed/activated by Media Temple without my permission. I already deleted it and I will move to another web hosting company. Media Temple have installed it without my acceptance or knowledge. This plugin is very bad.

Personally, as a more advanced user of WordPress, I don’t exactly need all the materials in this plugin, but the content is great! I know that I would have benefited from this plugin when I first started with WordPress.
Even in light of the recent controversy, this is a great plugin and anyone looking to learn more about WordPress should use it. I mean, where else can you get such interactive learning?
I don’t think auto-activating this plugin on existing GoDaddy/MediaTemple sites was the right thing to do, and there were definitely mistakes made, but let’s take a step back.
Have you heard ANYONE say “This plugin was installed and it broke my site!” Nope. I think people are overreacting. I’m glad that plugins like SideKick exists and I hope they continue to grow and succeed.

Accurate, good looking and fast.

This was installed without my acceptance or knowledge, and I lost hours of work because of it.

Logged into my WP account today to find this had been ‘magically’ installed. I immediately deactivated it, haven’t used it and don’t intend to.
Why impose your product on someone, whether free or not? I want the choice about what I install to my website to be my own – and I’m already paying for the privilege in any case, as it’s a hosted site. Finding Sidekick installed without my knowledge is irritating and dubious – it’s a control panel version of spam email.

Unauthorised installation of the plugin has caused my 8 hours of work just vanish without any possibilities to restore. It’s quite possible that the plugin has been installed via another plugin that I already trusted. Spammy actions.

Thanks to a partnership with MediaTemple – not sure who paid who – this plugin was installed on a number of LIVE sites without my permission or knowledge. Absolutely shameful.

I don’t like plugins automatically activating on my website without my consent. Unnecessary plugins add to my website’s load time.

Great Product – perfect for training clients who are new to wordpress websites. I look forward to your composer product.

Irritating addition to a fresh install of wordpress. It’s probably nice for those who have never used WP before, but for those who have, it’s intrusive and obnoxious. I’d love to have a way to NOT install this with WP on new sites…

The free version is what I consider false advertising – even the simplest help items like Managing, uploading, activating, deactivating and deleting a plugin require an upgrade to the paid version. I understand that the developers can make money for an higher level of service but in this instance the “free” version is just an excuse to be listed on the wordpress site. There is no value in the free version. I would give it a zero if that was possible.

An amazing tool for anyone new to WordPress, this will drastically reduce the amount of time I have to spend supporting my clients in WordPress management.
I am looking forward to setting up some custom walkthrough for my more bespoke sites.
Thanks guys

I’m giving this 5 stars a little prematurely as much will depend on how easy it will be for designers and developers to add tutorials for their custom additions (and the costs there.)
However, it is a fabulous plugin that has been well thought out. I’m delighted with the amount of free Woocommerce tutorials
There is one slight annoyance in that the instructions insist you click on main navigation items to reach submenu items. Presumably because it can not recognise a hover-over event?
Anyway excellent work. I’m excitedly waiting to get involved in the beta testing for the screen recorder.

Wanted to try this out as something to offer to new clients however there seem to be a few bugs yet.
I did the add page and it was fine, other then I would have liked the Feature Image to be included.
I then tried the Media one to see if it would mention the Feature Image but the tutorial broke down and my screen was ahead of it, and when I tried to reload it just stopped.
No way I want that to happen so someone who’s new. I’ll be getting emergency phone calls instead of emails.
I’ll keep my eye on this for the future but imho it’s not yet ready for prime time.

Great idea, great work, I am really impressed one of the best plugins I know.

There weren’t a lot of topics available without an “upgrade” and the first one I clicked on (How to edit a page) was unresponsive, apparently taking a long time to load. That was disappointing, but it really ticked me off when I tried to click away and was told “clicks are limited while the program is running.” Clicking the STOP button didn’t do any good, either. I finally had to close the window. Needless to say, I deactivated the plugin and deleted the files when I returned.

As a WordPress developer who also has background in instructional design for adults, after installing it and giving it a test drive, I can confidently say this is an excellent product.
Some adults learn by reading, others by watching videos, but most adults truly integrate that learning by DOING.
This plugin provides instruction at the point that you or your client will actually need it – on the job, in the Dashboard, not at some other website, which also gives it high marks for efficiency.
I clicked the topic in my own Dashboard and watched my Dashboard come to life, with soft orange click-able hotspots and voice guidance. The controls at the bottom of the screen always let me know how much more time was left, and let me stop, pause or play at any time. If I made a mistake in my entry, I was gently told.
I’m looking forward to more topics from this publisher and as a provider, possibly creating my own with their publishing product.

Walkthroughs have been updated for WordPress 3.9.2, basic WordPress functions are covered in the Free version, perhaps a 1 day all free access pass would be nice.

As always these kind of plugins are always written for an imaginary catch-all user who, in this case, is the WordPress admin/site creator. However there are many other use-cases. For example the Editor, who doesn’t care to know how to develop a website, and is only interested in content management and editing, and maybe {perhaps} a little on-page SEO {I know, wishful thinking} but you take my point. The Walkthroughs, as Sidekick calls them need to be written for a specific user. Maybe this nuance is something that will come later ~ I hope so ~ because in my case, my site users are not site designers or developers, they are authors and editors, and they don’t want to know about {and I don’t want to bother them with} stuff to do with WordPress core files, for instance. I’m looking forward to seeing this product mature, but for this reason ~ sorry guys ~ can only offer a 3 out of 5 for the plugin, so far.

A nice concept, but not ready for prime time. It’s a bit buggy, and I’m concerned it would frustrate my clients more than help them.
