Clean, attractive user interface. Quite fast even on my Windows sandbox. Found every instance of every shortcode, including the one I was looking for ??
To use the “Find by Shortcode” option, I needed to increase PHP’s memory_limit to 1G, but that is not a problem.

I use a lot of shortcodes, some of which I author myself. I just loaded [Shortcodes Finder ]and voila, here are all of my site’s shortcodes, which can be handily filtered if desired. The finder also lists other important and salient information about each short code. I’m definitely going to throw some $ in the author’s direction. Well worth it.

Several years ago I started using a “visual page builder”. You just couldn’t create complex pages that fast and easy without one. The time and effort to write the html/css was just not worth it. Fast forward to Gutenberg and my slow, clunky page builder became obsolete. I started the meticulous task of removing short-codes and editing hundreds of pages. As I came across them-I would fix them, hoping one day-I would get all of them-but how would I know for sure? Then I came across this plugin and gave it a shot. Glad I did! It easily found hundreds of short-codes with a link to each post/page. It took me a few days-but I just finished removing the last one. I was so impressed I came here to write a review. This plugin is just great. If you need to find/remove/edit short-codes, there is nothing better. Just perfect.

The plugin did exactly what it advertised! It didn’t take over the menu (having a top level menu!), it was hidden under the “Tools” menu where it should be. +1 to the devs of this plugin.

Brilliant plugin. Thanks so much for providing to all us WordPress users.

The plugin works as intended, and as of the latest version (1.5.2) it also works with weForms. I’ve left my old review below in case anyone encounters the same problem, but this problem has no longer occurred on the latest version, so everything is working as intended.
The author was very responsive in dealing with my concerns (as you can see from our exchange below), and even took the extra step to add support for weForms. A well-deserved 5 stars.
————————————————–
The text below is my old review (before 1.5.2) and is left up only in case anyone else encounters the issue. The plugins, today, works as intended.
Right after installation, this plugin caused WordPress to generate an infinite 302 redirect loop for any logged-in user trying to access the admin dashboard.
The front-end worked fine. None of the admin pages were accessible.
The infinite redirect loop caused the page to never load, making the browser show an error because it realizes it’s never going to end.
Removing the files of this plugin via FTP or other external method fixed the problem.
It may be due to an incompatibility with another plugin (most plugins installed are well-known ones like WooCommerce, LifterLMS, WP Fastest Cache, Rank Math SEO, Redis Object Cache). Either way, it shouldn’t be doing this.
Adapting the following code in the file shortcodes-finder/admin/class-shortcodes-finder-admin.php:
if ( is_admin() && get_option( 'activated_plugin' ) == SHORTCODES_FINDER_PLUGIN_SLUG ) {
delete_option( 'activated_plugin' );
exit( wp_redirect( admin_url( 'tools.php?page='. SHORTCODES_FINDER_PLUGIN_SLUG ) ) );
}
to:
if ( is_admin() && get_option( 'activated_plugin' ) == SHORTCODES_FINDER_PLUGIN_SLUG ) {
delete_option( 'activated_plugin' );
//exit( wp_redirect( admin_url( 'tools.php?page='. SHORTCODES_FINDER_PLUGIN_SLUG ) ) );
}
which disables the redirect, also fixed the problem.
After enabling, a second concern shows up: Although it recognizes some shortcodes (like LifterLMS and WooCommerce), it does not suggest the shortcode for weForms. “Find by Content” does find the used weForms shortcodes, but also lists all other shortcodes on all pages.
Two stars since applying my manual edit makes the plugin run, and although it doesn’t recognize weForms shortcodes it does help to eventually get there (with false positives) via “Find by Content”.

I’ve used WordPress for client sites since 2007. Since the beginning I’ve wished there was a plugin that could find unused shortcodes. This does that and helps clean up a site big time.
If you search for how do I know which plugins my site uses 99% of the answers will tell you to see which plguins are active. Nobody gets the question. Sure, a plugin can be active. But IS IT BEING USED?
This plugin helps solve part of that unanswered dilema.
This doesn’t solve everything but it is a GREAT step toward solving an important need cleaning up WordPress sites when you change themes or deactivate a plugin.

This is a really useful plugin to find all shortcodes on a site.
I have to switch themes and to find all shortcodes used by the old theme so I can replace them. Shortcodes finder does an excellent job finding them.
I had a problem with the plugin that was solved in no time. So also excellent support.
Thanks for this plugin and the support!

It simply takes all text between brackets as if it were a shorcode. Completely useless to find unused shortcodes or to manage the existing ones.

I have worked with WordPress for many, many years and I have always been impressed with the variety of plugins available. There are so many great niche plugins that it’s fun to often just search around for plugins to fill a potential functionality gap – even if you don’t really need it!
A number of times when working on client projects, especially since working work the block editor and needing specific blocks, I’ve felt a bit dispirited, thinking that “ok, this plugin is good for now, but if I need to remove it in a few years time, it’ll be a hassle to try and find where in hundreds of pages it’s been used”.
Today I had such a project, where I needed to replace a plugin that wasn’t working well and I was struggling to get through the site and find out where it had been used. Then I found this plugin and it was so easy tracking down the pages where shortcodes had been inserted.
This plugin is one of those great WordPress gems, that doesn’t need to be used very often but when it’s needed, it really does a great job. Put a big smile on my face – thank you!

Could not find some theme’s shortcode sources, probably due to some prefix/namespace issues, this plugin digs them out as it was born among them!

Does what it says. Simply, easy and very usefull. Author gave back very fast reply when issue was found

I love this plugin, and it does exactly what it says it will do, unless you’re using PHP 8, in which case it throws an error, like “TypeError thrown
get_class(): Argument #1 ($object) must be of type object, string given”.
I can switch my PHP versions, but for those that can’t, they may not be able to use it.
EDIT: Also doesn’t search ACF Fields, which would be a nice addition.

This plugin is simple, works as advertised and is excellent for finding short codes in content, including CPT.
It will also find where the short code is defined in the code (plugins, theme etc)
The one error it misses is if shortcodes are embedded in Custom Fields. As an example we use an advanced custom field to allow clients to add a contact form to a page by entering the short code into a field. This is not found by this plugin.

I could detect unused shortcodes in more than three thousand products descriptions using this plugin. It is fast and accurate. It can also be sued to identify all used shortcodes and to detect incorrectly entered shortcodes too.
I wish this plugin had also the delete capability of found unused shortcodes too.
Anyway I used code below in phpMyAdmin to delete all shortcodes starting with [cz_
UPDATE wp_posts SET post_content = REGEXP_REPLACE(post_content, "\\[cz_(.*?)]", "");

When I decided to remove a plugin which had gone out of production, I was faced with the problem of finding all pages and posts where shortcodes were used. Shortcodes Finder made it very easy to find all content that used the plugin which would leave behind a broken shortcode. Problem solved. Additionally, Shortcodes Finder allowed me to find all unused shortcodes.

I was looking for a way to do exactly this. Was about to write my own script to search for these in the database because using wp db search
for every single shortcode was getting tiresome.
Thanks for the great and original plugin!

This plugin was such a good find and I’m truly grateful to the developers. I really needed something like this and it works great. What would be even more helpful is if it could somehow search a multi-site instance. We have so many sub-sites and it takes a while go check each one individually.

When you take over a WordPress site that had several other people working on it before you and there is tons of old content, it’s great to be able to find shortcodes that you either no longer need, or shortcodes left from plugins that were removed. This plugin is so easy to use and gives great information. Kudos to the author.

I ran into this problem: I no longer want to use a plugin, but I know I have shortcodes for it in at least a dozen posts, but how should I know which ones?
And voilá, here is the perfect and simple solution! Without unnecessary bells and whistles, but with everything you need for this purpose.
Thank you!

We have hundreds of pages on our site, each with half a dozen shortcodes.
The Shortcodes Finder Plugin is a marvelous tool that returns every instance with both the shortcode content (values) and the URL of the page.
Fabulous tool for auditing the completeness, accuracy and quality of our site and obviously a real time saver.
Thanks to the Shortcodes Finder team!
