I have literally been working with support for over two months and got nowhere. Subscription were set to auto renew and never expire. No matter what I do, they get set to expire. You can imagine the frustration of my customers and myself, not to mention the money lost. After more than two months of going back and forth, I’ve decided that I need to look at another plugin to do the work.

On May 3, I alerted the authors of this plugin to a “Deprecated” message from this plugin. I am also a programmer myself and know that such messages are quite easy to resolve. Instead of resolving the message, I was informed that it was related to the Restrict Content Pro plugin. I indicated that this did not necessarily help me and I have since been awaiting a follow-up response. For me this is a reason to give this plugin 1 star, if you use the www.remarpro.com platform to make your plugin visible, make sure that the support handling is good.

Love this plug-in. It works and it’s fairly easy to develop with and extend. Does exactly what I need. I did upgraded to the pro version for the extra features.

Plugin features are solid for member management, in many areas i find it better than wishlist members but at lower cost. POwerful API and hooks are well documented. support is slow. I hope the new owners show more love and care for this

Pro features do not work
Plugin does not work on supported php version

I have the highest tier license available, and yet I have not received help with an urgent support request in 5 days.
The plugin seems to be very much neglected since it was acquired a couple of years ago. If you check its change log, it has had just 2 updates this year. Compare that to 2019 when it had 20 updates (before the plugin was acquired).
They’re wasting time with things like “rebranding” the plugin, instead of putting time into making sure it is actually being well maintained and supported.
When I have received support responses, the current developers seem to know less about the plugin than I do.
It’s very disappointing as this used to be an excellent plugin.

I”m very disappointed that you added Freemius. It is a very bad decision. It is a huge privacy issue.

Thank you guys for a very convenient plugin that helped me solve all my problems!

If you are looking for a solid solution for membership management on your website, don’t go for Restrict Content. We do have the pro version of this plugin, but the support is close to none. Super slow, when they reply, you get a canned message or a really simple one that you’d feel like they don’t have any intention of helping you solve your issues at all. Red flag for a plugin in the wonderful world of WordPress.

I needed a plugin to restrict access to some site content and this one did the job perfectly!

We use plugins to enhance our client websites, unfortunately, this plugin is not reliable because the shortcodes are breaking the site, and now support does not respond, It’s been over 3 days and I’m a paid member, but still no use. I made a huge mistake using this plugin on our client websites and also these people don’t understand that our livelihood depends on reliability. Now they are removing the feature like [restrict][/restrict] shortcode without offering an alternative. [restrict][/restrict] shortcode is so useful that I have used it on almost all the pages. I don’t understand where this plugin is headed. I sincerely recommend not to use this plugin.

Originally I could not get the membership levels to work. For several week I found their pre-sales people less than helpful. I was planning on using this plugin on a couple of sites, switching from another paid membership plugin. After talking to the developers I reinstalled it to test and it now seems to work with a simple membership. I spent hour working on that membership level in the past and that is what prompted my first rating of one star. I am moving that up to a four star rating for two reasons. Moving it up to three because so far it is working now and one extra star because someone actually contacted me with an invitation for advice.

This plugin is very well built and the free version offers a lot of functionality out of the box. It is a great developer tool as well being lean and very customizable. In my opinion it is a reliable choice, with good support, and a wonderful premium upgrade to Restrict Content Pro that makes it a great option to look to first.

Oddly it’s been tough to find a solution to have “leadgen” type content on my site. This plugin does exactly what it says and has been super easy to restrict all sorts of post types.

I’ve used this plugin on several projects over the years and really like it!

simple plugin, lots of add-ons

I love how the Restrict Content Pro membership plugin uses shortcodes for everything. It makes it easy to integrate with any theme and is PERFECT for memberships that are not delivered Online. Your members can pay online and get the deliverables in person. Most membership plugins make in-person memberships hard to set up on a website.
It also works for Online delivery as well.

I have been waiting for someone to reply, I spoke with support they want me to pay for an answer for something they are supposed to provide as part of the STRIPE API
Woocommerce and all plugins I know that use Stripe payments allow you to change Stripe API settings but this company all they want is money iThemes was not the best for this plugin, now after we setup everything we have to convert 100’s of subscribers to a new plugin because of the idiots at this iThemes! Do not use the plugin, please report them and make your reviews

Combining the free and pro versions of this plugin was a disaster. Updating from Legacy version to new version results in ALL pages on the site being restricted. This issue has been out there for months for many users, but no fix in site. If you just stick with the legacy version, dashboard nag never goes away.

The Pro version is great, very intuitive and easy to use. Does what is says exactly! Creating any kind of membership levels and plans, customizing them to your liking, easy to navigate within the dashboard and finding what you are looking for. It has it all.
BUT
God forbid you ever need support for issues you are having! Unless the issue isn’t urgent and can wait unresolved for 4 or more days or the support’s delayed reply will work for you and you won’t have follow up questions. If the first support reply doesn’t work and you need more help it will just take another 4 days to get a reply.
I wasn’t very lucky, while one of my issues isn’t urgent and I don’t mind the wait, the other issue is super urgent and I’m waiting for 3 days as of now to receive a reply. Even a “we are working on your complicated issue and it might take a couple of days to resolve” reply would have sufficed.
So if your developing skills are good and you can fix plugin issues by yourself you will like this plugin.

I tried this for a couple of years, but it is super buggy with constant issues, countless hours lost trying to fix each problem, and the unreliable support takes days to answer your support tickets, even though the website says it takes 24 hours.
To cancel a renewal (they don’t give you a choice, they automatically set every purchase to “renew” without your consent), you have to send an email to sales with as much info as possible and hope they respond and do not charge your account.
I do not recommend this plugin. More trouble than it’s worth.

Best content restriction / membership plugin.

I’m a big fan. Have been using this plugin for a client for about 2 years. It works well and documentation is EXCELLENT, including a lot of guidance on code to use to customize as needed (eg, add fields etc). I also received excellent and prompt support when I reached out. Definitely recommend.

Having installed this plugin since long, I will delete it now. Why? I don’t want to migrate to any fancy new features. I want the plugin to work as it did. Staying in legacy mode, I’m constantly bothered on every backend site with your message
“Restrict Content 3.0 is here with powerful new features for memberships and content access. See What’s New →”
No way to stop spaming. Plugin overloaded.

Please avoid these people.
My subscription expired and my account was debited without any form of a reminder, even when I don’t use the plugin anymore and I have deactivated it from my website.
I have been asking for a refund for months now, and they have refused to refund my money, always coming up with different excuses.
iThemes, please refund my money!!!

Avoid this plugin. It starts to show ads and that “feature” can not be disabled in any way. I had to deactivate and delete it.
Maybe it should be removed from the www.remarpro.com Plugin Page.

Suddenly all my sites messages are locked for subscribers only!
Thanks all for not testing the plugin.
Where is thumbs down?!

Version 3.0 took down 50+ websites I host, since it looks like iThemes didn’t thoroughly test their plugin. I was woken up to multiple phone calls and emails from many clients panicking that their site was down, thanks to this new update. There’s no excuse for not testing this version to make sure updating the plugin doesn’t automatically change access to only logged in users, which it did. It also automatically created 5 new pages for every site, which I now have to delete manually. After I fix their blunder, I will be removing this plugin completely from all sites I host.
