Doesn’t seem to work with php 8 – it generates an error.

This is a really great plugin, and so simple to configure. I just hope you would include product categories, that would be extremely helpful especially for a multi-vendor market site.

Does not work with block editor or custom taxonomies, which in my case makes it unhelpful. If one is only using the classic editor and standard categories, it works well.

I needed this to use for a custom post type and this plugin does not seem to support restricting a custom post type taxonomies.

It works well with the classic editor but it doesn’t work with the block editor. Could you fix it in the next update? Thanks a lot

The reviewer @godaisies has misunderstood what this plugin is for.
It’s for restricting a User’s access to Categories in the WordPress Dashboard. So, if you want to allow a particular user to log on to WP and add a post in the Bird Watching News section of your site, you can give him or her access to that Category and that Category only. He or she will still have unrestricted access to the whole of the public-facing website.
This plugin is used purely for controlling content creation, not restricting public access.
In that respect, it works perfectly. The only glitch is that the user search does not currently seem to work. So, if you have a site with a lot of users, you need to page through them one at a time till you find them alphabetically. Which is a bit annoying but not enough to stop me giving a five-star review.

can u help to show the list of custom taxonomy aswell
]]>Rating: 1 star
sounded like an ideal solution, it made my categories not showing up anymore…

The plugin is great and it works as expected, but would be fantastic if the plugin author will implement a feature to make it work with custom taxonomies too!

Tests done on two other plugins for wordpress set that authors had access to only one category. They worked well but the mobile version of wordpress does not work.
Thank goodness because I found this amazing plugin Restrict Categories 2.6.3 and did exactly what I wanted.
Many thanks to the author of the plugin. ??

I set my user to only see a few specific categories. However, when I log in as that user, I can see everything on the website.

I created a new user role with WPFront User Role Editor. Then use this plugin to restrict the category permission. Yet, no effect.
Then I tried Press Permit Core,which I succeed. Search Limit read access wordpress to get the step on how to do.

I was apprehensive after reading the latest reviews, but this plugin works great for what I needed, which was to restrict the Contributor role to posting in specific categories. When a Contributor clicks Posts > Add New, only the categories I selected are available to choose from in the Categories metabox.
I’m not sure if the plugin is suppose to limit showing just the user’s own posts under Posts > All Posts and on the dashboard Activity widget (it doesn’t), but if that’s a concern, try adding the following code to your theme’s function.php:
function query_set_only_author( $wp_query ) {
global $current_user;
if( is_admin() && !current_user_can('edit_others_posts') ) {
$wp_query->set( 'author', $current_user->ID );
}
}
add_action('pre_get_posts', 'query_set_only_author' );

Very disappointing, I could use a simple solution like this. -Kevin

Installed, modified settings for each role, logged in as “limited” role, still saw and had access to all categories. Useless right now.
