It can’t even delete files with unregistered sizes. Useless!

They basically paywalled all the features that used to make the plugin stand out and were previously free. Some of my customers still use their regular plugin or CDN, and even they have to pay for it now.
Fortunately, Exactly WWW stepped up and offered some of the same functionalities with their plugin “Force Regenerate Thumbnails” – and it’s free. To be honest, EWWW IO is the better image optimizer anyway, even if it’s not as fancy looking as ShortPixel.
I’m going to avoid ShortPixel-related products for now, because who knows what they’ll start charging for next. I can’t and won’t rely on tools from authors who may revoke access on a whim and without any warning.

It is inconceivable that ShortPixel could implement such a money-grabby move as making this plugin not just paid, but not even included for any ShortPixel customers who are paying for their regular plugin or the CDN. And there aren’t incredible new features that are paywalled; they just locked up features that were previously free. Truly disgraceful. I expected better from ShortPixel.

I’m extremely disappointed with the latest update to reGenerate Thumbnails Advanced. Features that were once available for free are now locked behind a paywall in the pro version. It feels like a money grab, and it’s frustrating to lose access to tools I relied on without any warning. I used to recommend this plugin, but this change is a real letdown.

They use scare tactics to say that the #1 plugin is not compatible with their shortpixel image optimizer because they want you to buy this pro version. the free version does not do what it needs to do.. and the pro version is not included with your paid plan of the image optimizer.
edit: The free version does what it says it needs to do — but for most users, they are looking for the feature that is now behind the paid. There is a way to circumvent this if you can use a code snippet, and for that I will adjust my rating. I am still going to be using an alternative for now as I don’t want to use a plugin that might have features move over time.

This regularly doesn’t work when you trying to regenerate individual images. Lots of wasted time re-uploading and checking the images over and over.
]]>Rating: 1 star
As someone else had stated, there is nothing new about the Pro version. It’s literally just paying for all the previous features we used to get for free.
]]>Rating: 1 star
Just like every other good plugin the developers decided to make it useless by making EVERYTHING pro. Thats the best recipe for bad costumer reviews

Fortunately I got the pro version in my Shortpixel subscription. I have not compared it with the free versrion. But pro has been working very well for me. Also, support has been friendly, quick and helpful.

It was a normal and useful plugin. Now it is completely useless. Hopefully I had a backup and kept the old version 2.4.1 that works.

So all of the sudden they converted the plugin to premium and claim “You will find exciting features in the?PRO version”.
Well, there is nothing new, there are all the typical features converted to PRO version.
I would really consider buy the PRO version if you added some PRO features in addition to the already free features, but convert the existing features and renaming them as “PRO” is sad.

I’m a paid Shortpixel subscriber for their image optimization plugin. The regenerate thumbnail plugin was a useful companion plugin, but now they have removed many basic features from the free version and moved them into a “Pro” version for $50/year. I’m sorry, but this is a joke! What were they thinking? I get that there are development costs, but surely this plugin was always just a way to gather customers for the paid image optimization plugins?
Why would I pay this when other plugins do the same things for free?
I feel like, at a minimum, there should have been some combined license so that people who are already paying Shortpixel can still get these features. What attracted me to Shortpixel and caused me to leave Imagify was the ecosystem of useful plugins. Image optimizer, thumbnail regenerate, replace media, etc. Everything played nicely together. Now I’ll lose that. Annoying users who never paid them is one thing, but it seems short-sighted to annoy users who are already paying them. It doesn’t make me excited to keep paying them.
Should I expect them to start charging for Enable Replace Media plugin soon, too?
Extremely frustrated.

They moved some basic and needed functions to the Paid Zone now.

After the last update, looks like the greedy bastards took away some of most needed features and now you have to pay for it. Plenty of other plugins that do this for free. WTF is Shortpixel thinking?
]]>Rating: 1 star
They ruined the plugin by offering the same thing it did before but now they are paid options.
The funniest thing is that supposedly in their changelog they “offer new exciting features”, of course that is a lie.
Maybe go back to the previous version or uninstall the plugin, probably the second option.

This plugin pretends like it works, it even pretends showing you the process of your images being resized, and then it shows a success message where they promote their paid service, which is obviously the goal of this plugin.
None of my images were actually resized. I will restore a backup now because who knows – a broken plugin like this may have messed up some things behind the scenes.
I also tested the plugin ‘Regenerate Thumbnails By Alex Mills (Viper007Bond)’, and that one works perfectly. So you can safely use that instead.

Awesome plugin. All I needed was to fix my broken thumbnails from a veeery old website that I’ve since transferred to a new server/domain.
For some reason, the medium sized thumbnails were completely missing, and although all the full-sized images were there, the site’s media looked broken due to having non-existent thumbnails
I added a custom thumbnail size in the plugin based off what I was seeing in the Chrome inspector for the missing images, 780×572, and ran the regenerator. All of the images are now fixed. I believe the size is “approximate” based off how WordPress crops, so not all of the broken nor regenerated images were actually that specific size; the general dimension I put in seemed to fix almost all of the thumbnails. I input another dimension to fix the rest.
Saved me tons of time trying to find a workaround for this, thanks!

I don’t know if this isn’t compatible with MH Themes any more – I’ve used it successfully before – but now it does nothing.

Great plugin, still checking the site for now. But 250k previews were cleaned, which was caused by a poorly set template that generated 40 previews from each file. Many thanks for saving lot of hours work.

I’ve been using reGenerate Thumbnails Advanced for several months to update hundreds of images on multiple websites.
What a game-changer if you must update or modify?images on WordPress.
Thanks Gerard and Team ShortPixel!

I could find the option “Delete Unselected Thumbnails” only with this plugin. And finally the old shop website is cleaned and brightened up from all those unused thumbnails ?? Thanks guys! <3

Regenerate Thumbnails Advanced is an excellent WordPress plugin that offers advanced features for users who need to regenerate their thumbnails quickly and easily. One of the most outstanding aspects of this plugin is its stability. It is very reliable and can resume the regeneration process if it gets stuck, ensuring that you don’t lose your progress. Well done!
Another great feature of this plugin is that it starts with the newest images instead of the oldest, making the regeneration process faster and more efficient. This is especially useful for users with large media libraries, as they can save a significant amount of time by regenerating only the thumbnails that they need.
Keep up the good work!

You have to press the buttons several times, it does not work correctly!

Does the job. I am satisfied!

Tried everything to get my thumbnails back, but nothing worked. I’ve wasted hours on this and watched several tutorials. Then I installed another tool, Regenerate Thumbnails, and everything worked within 1 minute.

This is very nice solution for the thumbnails. I’m so happy. Thank you!

I was trying to find a solution where a number of unwanted images thumbnail dimenions were producded by wordpress.
This plugins can help delete the preexisting images but for future uploads there will be a need of a plugin that stop the production of unwated image sizes

Using WordPress 6.02, PHP 7.4.32, tagdiv newsmagazine theme.
With imagick, with the plugin set Default JPEG Quality: 90, the thumbnail quality was better than the original thumbnail quality.
Using the GD library, the thumbnail quality was a slightly less with imagick, but the thumbnail was higher quality is higher quality than original GD thumbnail generation.
Using JPEG Quality: 80 generates about the same quality as original for imagick and GD.
The plugin could use a regenerate date range and some way to identify which images are being used that match the image size names.
I am impressed that it has process recovery and will restart where it was interupted.
There is a flaw with the “Delete Unselected Thumbnails” function where if there is a base image which has a size in the name, e.g., 400×400, it may get deleted as a thumb for a different image. It also removes thumbnails generated for “Simple Local Avatars” plugin that should not be deleted.

The quality of the converted images is very poor. The file size is larger than the original.
