At first, I did not get it to work, until I found out I had to hit the save button in settings first, even if I did not make any changes. After that, worked like a charm.
It might be a good idea, to put these step-by-step instructions on the description/instructions page.
Support was also quick to respond.
Thanks!

I added the shortcode (using Classic editor) to hide / unhide text in my post and it broke my sidebar, it pushed it to the bottom of the page. There are not many options in the free version to tinker with it, so I can’t do anything to fix it. Pity because it works well for the purpose it’s created, but I can’t have a broken post layout.

Great if it worked. Unfortunately, it doesn’t.

I love this plugin. I have had it active on one website for about 6 months now and have not noticed any weirdness. It works great. I wish the plugin had a paid upgrade so I could be more sure of its future existence and quality.

After one of the last couple WordPress updates, the plugin completely stopped working.

Great plugin, the others are TOO heavy. Thanks!
Suggestion, if I may?
Wish “Change Naming”/” could also be achieved via the shortcode, in my instance, I am using the plugin to hide/show song lyrics, wish I could add the song title for each instance.
Also, I wish that in addition to “Border Bottom”, there was an option for a full solid border – Button like style
Again, great plugin, THANKS!

I’m a user not a developer, and Read More Without Refresh has been a really excellent plugin for me. It has revolutionised my writing – I can get the main points across succinctly and tuck details away in a read more for someone who is interested in more. I have been using the Classic Editor and am now trying to migrate to Gutenberg. Maybe I’m doing something wrong but I have tried entering [read more] xxx [/read] into the code editor in a Paragraph Block, a Classic Block and a Shortcode Block, but so far without success. Can anyone help? Thanks.

After updating there are now spam/ad screens displayed on the WordPress admin interface. These can’t be removed.

I suppose nothing good lasts forever, this plugin got updated today and I suddenly started getting spam on all my admin pages, when you close it, it pops up again on the next page.

Yes, simply it does what it says on texts, group images etc.
If there was a selection for transparent Background color (in settings, to be transparent not white or other color) then it will be a perfection! Till now i “cheat” this by erasing the number of #color on background…
Tnx George

Really helpful plugin and support!

It just works. If you want a simple “read more” text button to use in different themes without hassle, this plugin just does the job.

Hello, and thanks for this plugin.
The plugin does work in all basic applications and because it actually works. That’s why I rated it 5 stars.
Suggested feature requests:
I’d give it 6 stars if as a courtesy, the shorcode was an easy copy/paste from somewhere in the dashboard. Or even a link in the dashboard to quickly access the documentation.
I’d give it 10 stars if all HTML such as DIV tags or FORM tags, even H# tags could be included between the start and top shortcode. Imagine the possibilities!
Your plugin is appreciated and works well with the most recent version of WordPress.
PS. Please keep your WP plugin page updated so that it doesn’t have the warning posted that it hasn’t been tested with the latest version of WP. The plugin is worthy!

It worked for displaying read more link on category description for me. thank you!

The Plugin works fine but as a lot of people mentioned the documentation could be a little clearer. Follow the steps below to get it to work properly.
1st Open the RMWR settings page and at bottom of page click save changes
2nd, Make sure you are in text editor mode and not visual.
3rd Locate and place your cursor at the spot you want Read More located.
4th Now add the following with the brackets: [read more]
5th Place your cursor at the location where you want it to end and type:[/read]
6th Save page by hitting the update button.
Open your page in a different browser or in private mode to test. Sometimes the f5 key needs to be hit to clear the cache.
The RMWR settings page has other options like text color, background, padding etc. those can be changed at any time.
You can also change the Read More or Read Less to something else of your choosing on the settings page. Remember to always be in text editor and use the brackets.

Good plugin for put more than 1 “read more”. Good for SEO.

I tried two other plugins before installing this one and both failed.
The first one left large white spaces and it was not possible to edit the read more text. The other one spit out too much information and it was not possible to remove the abundant click text.
A little bump
Now there was a little bump after installing this one. The read more text did not show. Oops! After changing the text to my local language in the sidebar menu, it showed. Pfff.
Confusing shortcode
[complain mode] the shortcode open and close tag is not logical. Best practice is to use the same term and add a slash to close. Like this [/complain mode]
Now it is [read more] followed by [/read] and that confuses me.
Perhaps there is a reason behind this. For me it is weird, suggesting there are other combinations possible.
All working great
That being said as constructive criticism. It is working as expected. 5/5. thanks.

It worked in my previous project but not in my latest one.
Not sure why but its unfortunate because when it does work its great.
I went to the RMWR Settings and changed the colour and it started working.
Not sure why but I am grateful,
Thank you George

As with many WP plugins, the instructions are very poor. I tried to figure it out, but couldn’t get it to work.
UPDATE: I still feel that the usage instructions could be better. My real problem is that the plugin didn’t work as desired for me. I was unable to select the paragraphs I wanted to hide. Perhaps there is an anomaly in my site. I’m glad it works for most users. I’m moving on with other options.

Really did not expect it to work as well as it does!! What a great surprise!!

It is an amazing little plugin that solves a big issue. I was so impressed that I made a donation. Keep up the good work. Minor suggestion: it wold be nice to be able to disable the “read less” command so that once “read more” was clicked, it could not be closed.
]]>Rating: 5 stars
Is it possible to fade in the content or to slide the content slowly?
Maybe It′s possible with an easy work around.
That′s quite the only thing which is to improve.
Best Regards
Heinz

Why would?
Just another failure.

CONGRATULATIONS.
This is the only “show more” plugin that actually works, without a lot of frustrated fiddling, but there again; the test rig that I’m working on is rather unique.
My WordPress site is being built entirely using the CSS Grid: and as such, the bottom of the screen is ambiguous to say the least, but because the (set point) and (close point) are the same with this plug-in: then the (content-text) expands, and then closes properly without any issue.
[ AND! ] – { LOUD-DRUM-ROLL } – You can have as many ‘read-mores’ on the grid constructed pages as you want. Which is something else that the others fall over badly when trying to achieve.
I can report all this with confidence, .. because that’s what I’ve finally discovered and worked out after several long fruitless hours of working intently with other, .. shall we say: more fancier plug-ins. This ones simplicity makes it stand head and shoulders over the rest.
The only issue is that the (close-point) is above the expanded text-content, but there again when you think about it; why would any user want to close the expanded text anyway? – They’ve read the content and are moving on through your site.
(It’s not an issue as such: just a casual observation.)
Cash sent: congratulations again for a plug-in well written.
Hope it helps people – Jessica.

Автор не поправляет, поправлю я…
Зайти в папку с плагином и в файле readmoreoptions.php
Заменить функцию function read_main на следующее:
function read_main($atts, $content = null) {
$atts = shortcode_atts(array(
'more' => get_option('rm_text'),
'less' => get_option('rl_text')
), $atts, 'read');
mt_srand((double)microtime() * 1000000);
$rnum = mt_rand();
$new_string = '<span><a onclick="read_toggle(' . $rnum . ', \'' . esc_html($atts['less']) . '\', \'' . esc_html($atts['more']) . '\'); return false;" class="read-link" id="readlink' . $rnum . '" style="readlink" href="#">' . esc_html($atts['more']) . ' </a></span>' . "\n";
$new_string .= '<div class="read_div" id="read' . $rnum . '" style="display: none;">' . do_shortcode($content) . '</div>';
return $new_string;
}

Hi, I would like to report an issue with READ WITHOUT REFRESH PLUGIN
The plugin down after have been updated to the last version v3.1, the buttons text is not visible.

Best regards.

The plugin worked great until I updated to version 3.1, when the plugin has been automatically deactivated by WordPress after the update. Here is the error message:
The plugin read-more-without-refresh/index.php has been deactivated due to an error: The plugin does not have a valid header.
How can this be fixed?
Thanks for the hard work.

Plugin stopped working after updates. All I had to do was update settings page and save. Plugin was working again. Thanks!
