I downloaded Quotes Collection out of the Wayback Machine. I’m using it in my history web site, but the Next and Previous arrows aren’t showing up. I’m using GridPal Pro theme.

I’ve shut off Maintenance for this, showing the wordpress development site on a temporary fake url in Plesk:

Another issue: whether as a widget in the left sidebar, or with widget shortcode on a page (I have both at that link), the Quotes are picking up two different margins.
Let’s talk about the Quotes widget in the sidebar. The very first quote always shows up with the nice narrow margin whether in the sidebar or on the page. All quotes after that show up with the wider page margin I added via css in the customer. I don’t know what that’s happening. I would like the widget to retain the narrow margin of the sidebar for all quotes shown.
Then the Quotes widget on the page. Again, the very first quote always shows up with the narrow margin and then every other quote has wide page margins.
It may be a theme problem. The theme creator is working on it, but I don’t know if he will be able to solve it, in case it happens to be a Quotes plugin issue.
Any ideas? On how I can keep all the quotes in the narrow margin on the sidebar; and all the quotes in the wide page margin on the page?

]]>When I select all the quotes, choose Delete, and click Apply – nothing happens. I wanted to add a tag to all of them, and there isn’t an option for bulk editing, so I exported them, added the tag and now want to delete them all and import the new ones with tags.
I’ll have to delete each one manually … just wanted to let you know (a) the bug and (b) it would be good to have bulk edit.

My web site is under maintenance mode.
The previous and next arrows in Quotes Collection do not work in my current theme. I’m trying to find an alternative way for the visitor to be able to scroll through the published quotes.

The author of the Quotes Collection plugin has disappeared.
Could someone else at GitHub help to resolve issues with the plugin that can’t be resolved by forum members?
For example, the infamous Next-Previous arrows don’t work if your theme hasn’t got a particular code in the header. Srinig used to offer help with this if you could contact him, but he has disappeared.
It would be very nice if someone at GitHub could think about that problem, and maybe create a formal solution to it that might work on all themes, or on many more themes.
Who knows how to contact GitHub to get help with the Next-Previous arrows and other issues with Quotes Collection?

Thank you for this great plugin.
I have been using the shortcode [quotcoll ajax_refresh=true] in a cached page by lightspeed caching plugin. I have excluded the shortcode output from getting cached by using ESI shortcode parameters and also setting Dynamically fetch the first random quote to enabled in your plugins options, and the plugin works just fine.
The problem is when a try to optimize the page with lightspeed optimization, the Quotes Collection shortcode dont give any output.
I have tried to exclude from optimization the following files:
/wp-content/plugins/quotes-collection/css/quotes-collection.css
/wp-content/plugins/quotes-collection/js/quotes-collection.js
/wp-content/plugins/quotes-collection/blocks/quotes/style.css
/wp-content/plugins/quotes-collection/blocks/random-quote/style.css
but still i can’t make it work.
If i disable lightspeed optimization on the page, then it works fine.
Any ideas that could causing the issue?

I checked my site, and that php file has a different name: wp-blog-header.php
I tried adding
<?php wp_head(); ?>
in between <head> </head>
but I also had to type in the head tags, they aren’t in the php file.
That didn’t work. The arrows are still not showing up on my site.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.

]]>Not a problem, but a feature request. When I fill both the Author and the Source fields (Source with a URL), they are both displayed under the quote, the Source as a hyperlinked URL. I would much prefer that the URL would be used to hyperlink the author. Or at least that there’s a choice.
I’m working around this now by building an A HREF in the Author field, but that’s involved and inconvenient. Also, the plugin clears attributes from the A tag, so I can’t even add my TARGET=_BLANK (I want external links from my site to open in new tabs).

thanks for the plugin, it does exactly what I needed. Unfortunately it worked well for few months and now it has some issues.
Basically all the quote stop to show in the website randomly. The only way to fix this is to log in the back end and magically the quotes start to show again. Can anyone help me with this please?

]]>Hi there, the Quotes plugin makes trouble in the mobile version of my website. It freeze the mobile menu so that is not working, also the slider was not working and the star reviues under the posts.
It seems the option in the quotes widget “show source” or “refresh feature” or one of these options makes the problems.

FYI – The randomization wasn’t working for me until I removed the quotes around “random”.
Documentation for shortcodes said to use…

But I had to use…
[quotcoll orderby=random limit=1]

I love Quotes Collection. Unfortunately, the arrows never appear.
For example, in my current draft site, the required header code exists, and ajax refresh is selected, but no arrows appear on Quotes Collection.

]]>I was attempting to import a largeish collection of quotes (a little over 3K quotes, with a JSON size of about 1MB), and the bulk import was failing. I took a look at the code for the import and noticed that it’s attempting to do everything in one big SQL statement. That’s certainly not a bad idea for performance purposes, but it does make a situation like this a little fraught, since there’s no way of telling what the actual problem is. Could be related to hitting some MariaDB/MySQL packet limits? Or is it complaining about one particular quote within those 3K, perhaps?
Anyway, I ended up just rewriting put_quotes from inside inc/class-quotes-collection-db.php on my local side, to run a separate SQL statement for each quote in the JSON, like so:

… which worked well enough for me, though I did notice that three out of the 3K+ quotes didn’t get imported, so my problems initially might’ve just been down to some bad data in the bunch. One drawback to this method, as-written, is that it doesn’t provide any feedback about which quotes might’ve caused problems. That would be handy information to report back to the user, if so.
Anyway, something to think about, and maybe tweak at some point?
