For some reason as of recent, when generating a feature image, it generates multiple. This is clearly a problem as it creates many images for no reason. Critical id say.

Please advise on a fix.

I have used Press This for years. Over the last 2 weeks it stopped working. If I click the Press This link and scan the page, the options to publish or dave as draft are available however pushing the button does nothing. It wont publish, it wont save as draft or anything.

Is it possible i’m doing something wrong? Please help.

Can any good Samaritan expert tell me if I should install this plugin? It has not been updated in 2 years and there are no future updates on GitHub?

After a lot of faffing about, I finally worked out how to make Press This work.

Forget the bookmarklet, it’s a waste of time.

Instead, roll the plugin back to the FIRST version (where there is no bookmarklet) and click onto ‘Open Press This’ and add the new url to your bookmarks bar (should be yoursite.com/press-this or something similar).

This new bookmark that you’ve just added then needs to scan your desired url, when you will be able to add the new item to your posts (draft or publish) with ease.

What’s the point of keeping this plugin available if it doesn’t let you access the scriptlet that utilizes it? There is no option on the Writing Page in settings anymore to bookmark it.

I could not get the press this button to work, but I copied the code into a shortcut for my browser, so at a page I want to press .. but then it log me out, i log back in then i refresh to get the article .. can you please help ? thanks

I can see various addional options in the writing settings but not the press this button.

It’s great how it takes the images from the page you want to republish, it would be just perfect if we could choose one of those to be the featured one.

Has anyone had trouble using Press This with multisite? The subdomain sites seem to work but Press This won’t work with the top level site. The bookmark opens the window and populates the info correctly, but Publish, Save as Draft, Standard Edit just give a quick refresh flash on that window and don’t do anything. And nothing is left in Posts on the site.

Tried uninstalling, reinstalling, etc to no avail…

Ideas?

Somebody needs to get this plugin working again or create a new one because this wouild be totally awesome!

When I installed it recently the only thing it did was add a link to the page that I was sharing in the post. No other content was available.

I have a non tech-savvy user that uses Press This. She can remember to hit “Scan” to pull images, but she can’t consistently remember to select a category (“News”).

Is there a way of just having all Press This created posts default to a specific category?

Ok so I need to delete a post that was used with Press this. Its not showing up in the post category lists or anything.

I use this plugin quite a bit to create blog posts from pages I view and was wondering if this plugin will be updated for the new Gutenberg editor in WordPress 5.0.

I currently use this and once I’ve selected my image I’ll go to the “Standard Editor” to add in audio, video or other blocks.

I looked in the past tickets and it looks like this has been a bug that was fixed but must be back. I use it and there is no way to set a featured image. When I select an image, it goes inline for the content. I then have to select Standard Editor, delete the image and then select it via Featured Image. Would be great to add/fix this.

I am running WP 4.9.8 and have all available updates, including Plugins, applied.

Is there a way to set a default target of the source link so that it will open in a new window?

I noticed that the documentation on Press This in the WP Codex was pretty outdated, and still had instructions referring to installing via Tools and mentions of a WP 4.2 build that would be “new”. I’m not a coder by trade, but I tried to update and add some more links to the new plugin page and updated installation instructions, but it might be good if someone from the Press This dev team took a quick look at that page who knows the plugin interface and usage better.

When I create a post using “Press this” and go into the standard text editor right away (e.g. when highlighting text from Feedly and going from there to the text editor) I can’t change the status of the post. When I create a post from within WordPress I can. What is the difference? And is there a way to change this behaviour?

UPDATE: I kind of solved the problem. When clicking on “edit” for the “visibility” and then “ok” or “cancel” the “edit”-button for the status appears. But I guess this is not intended behaviour.

When you initially use the bookmarklet, the excerpt you quoted from the original source gets deleted and replaced with something else when you scan for media items.

This is what’s happening:
* highlight a piece of text and call the bookmarklet.
* new post gets created as draft with blockquote and link source

Then if you click the scan button, after a while when the system comes back with the found media, the excerpt gets changed to the title of the sourced article and anything else you might have added gets deleted.

I love the funktion with press button and get the entry, but i have a huge problem with the picture.
I need to edit the post again to set the “content image” again (sorry i dont know the word in german its Beitragsbild)
I would love to choose to set the found image as content image and not insert it just in the text like i can add keywords or new pictures with the button (bottom left) but there i need the URL he dont know the image he allready found because its not yet uploaded to the gallery

Sometimes Press this will not pick up an article, for example https://www.prosecutorialaccountability.com/2018/02/26/tx-texas-two-step-put-defendants-on-death-row-for-years-then-confront-false-evidence-used-against-them/

Does anybody know how to load PT onto more than one device? It doesn’t seem possible to drag the little button (inside WP dashboard) to the browser. It goes away after you do it the first time. I want to have this button on two different browsers on both my laptop and my smartphone.

“Source:(Article Title)”
to
“Read the article here: (domain name)”

It’s great there’s a new plug-in. But there’s no indication how to use it. Presumably, it’s the same as before, but the developers really need to make this clear.

I don’t think Press-This is capable of this yet, but it would be extremely helpful if you could set the featured image directly in the Press-This page rather than having to move to the standard editor.

Press this stopped working with 4.9 update. As I am a content aggregator this bug is devastating. How do I fix?

I am getting a Press This error that shows a large square with the word “PLACEHOLDER” in the center.

Attempting to use Press This today, I ran into an issue with the following error being shown:

“Connection lost or the server is busy. Please try again late”

This was literally after using the tool just minutes before. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. There is a total of 13 photos total, not a lot of text.
