Look no further. This plugin is under-publicised and very good. Took me ages to find it. It works for me with 5.4.2 in July 2020. Prevents the TinyMCE editor from messing up a div wrapped in an href.

Doesn’t seem to retain formatting in new code when editing via the visual editor and then going to the text editor.
Vice versa seems to work.
Good work though. Hoping for an update soon, a long time has passed and we’re at WP 4.5.2 now, which has its own enhancements.

It worked! Thank you! And I wish you and your daughter to be always healthy~

It’s November 2015 and this plugin still works great. Hasn’t been updated in 2 years.
Thank you, plugin author!

I thought that’d be a pretty common one. It did keep my onclick event and google track event code though ??
Would be 5-star otherwise!
Thanks,
J

Thank you so much. I have been searching for days and experimenting with various bits of code in my functions.php to stop TinyMCE from stripping my HTML code.
This plugin does the trick!

Awesome approach, I actually wanted to try out the plugin since I’m so often pissed off by the error that destroyed the br-tags.
I literally planned to install the plugin today, but then the new WordPress update was there and before I tried the plugin, I tested the new WP-version for the above error. And the error doesn’t occur anymore!
So: Thanks a lot to the developer of the plugin, your job is done now. ??

I can’t thank you enough for this plugin. I can’t even fathom why WordPress wouldn’t have this as a built-in function. Works flawlessly. THANK YOU

Great plugin, but we ran into a problem with IE 10 (Windows 8.1) and WP 4.0.
The visual editor was hidden when editing posts/pages using IE 10. The text editor is available and functions, but the visual editor is simply blank (no content, no toolbar). The tabs for switching between Text and Visual mode also become unreliable.
Just wanted to put this up there in case anyone else runs into this problem.

I can’t believe that when you switch from Visual Editor to HTML inside WordPress, most of the HTML tags get stripped away. Daft. This plugin totally saved me. Thanks to the Author.
I was still getting a wee bit of P tags getting injected when switching view on one of my test pages. I figured out that either this plugin, or WP visual editor was still trying to fix some tags. In my case, I had some non closed <p> tags. Once I went through and manually fixed up the HTML, then the plugin worked perfectly….so far. Thanks

I use this on all my sites. Highly recommended!

This has saved my life…again…

Been pulling my hair out for a few days trying to figure out how to preserve some basic markup entered into ‘text’ view, without this plugin it is stripped when toggling between ‘visual’ and ‘text’. This has worked so far, the markup is preserved, very impressed. Thankyou.

works like a charm.

I’m usually a scrooge and never write reviews even after finding something good. But this plugin is SO good that I had to write my first wordpress plugin review.
There are so many threads and forum discussions online spanning a good 5+ years complaining about the problem that this plugin solves—-messed up HTML after switching to Visual mode and back. Almost all of them point to TinyMCE Advanced to solve the problem. I’m not sure why—it didn’t solve the problem for me.
But this… THIS… solves it.
Only thing I can’t believe is how this plugin has been around for quite a while but has less than 30k downloads.
Thank you Mr. MarcusPope…!

As more of my sites now have content editors, this plugin is invaluable.
Thank you again!

This plugin should be in the WordPress core. Never has that statement been so true.
For 5+ years I’ve been amazed at the continual frustration people have with TinyMCE. And especially considering WP is not just for blogging anymore and hasn’t been for years now this plugin is essential for any developer. Thank you so much!!! And please keep updating this plugin when/if need be.

Ok so, I created a functions.php child in the folder of my graphene theme. Inside I put this:
remove_filter(“the_content”, “wptexturize”);
remove_filter(“the_content”, “convert_chars”);
Then I downloaded installed and activated this plugin.
Now all manual breaks and java scripts stopped screwing up while switching between html view and visual view in wordpress.
So, great! Excellent. A dream come true.
I’m just a little worried about this text:
IMPORTANT: Please read the installation instructions carefully. If you have existing content it will not render properly after activating this plugin until you use the Fix It Tools.
I haven’t done that, can’t find these so called “Fix It Tools”, and there is no documentation on them. Not on the wordpress plugin site, neither on the developers site. So I dunno what that remark is all about?

Just registered so that I could say a HUGE thank you.
I’m no coder and need to use visual editor. Sometimes I have to put in my own html and it stuffed up big time every time I switched between visual and text.
Spent a few minutes just switching the tabs and html is still the same.
Problem solvered ?? Thank you

Hi,
I am using your plugin as well as PS Disable Auto Formatting on my site.
The issue that I am facing is that after saving the post/page it adds a P tag or br tag(depending on the setting from Settings > Writing) for each new line.
Can you please let me know if I need to user PS Disable Auto Formatting if I am using your plugin, that plugin is used to preserve br and p tags.
Please advice

First of all: A TRILLION THANKS!!
I have been three days debugging the codes of the editor to try to find out where the wpautop from the client side was working.
You have spared me another three days for sure!!
From now on this plugin will be on my “Super Plugins” list.
Again: Thanks!
Please continue making these kinds if plugins. I will be there to download them ??

Super plugin !!!
The best way to get rid of this troublesome problem generated by TinyMCE when we switch in visual mode.

This is a great plug in, after weeks having problems with a website that is updated by regular users and some coders, and loosing html code, we really appreciate what this plug in does.
We all can edit the website now without loosing html and css in visual mode.

I would send this guy a million if I had! Best plugin ever ever!
I was trying to solve that tinymce madness of removing all <p>s or adding <p>s everywhere ! This was driving me crazy!
These codes didn’t do it! When I switched back from html to visual tab, bam, the html tags were messed again! Very annoying thing from tinymce!!
remove_filter( 'the_content', 'wpautop' );
remove_filter( 'the_excerpt', 'wpautop' );
function tinymce_config( $init ) {
$init['force_br_newlines'] = 'false';
$init['force_p_newlines'] = 'true';
$init['convert_newlines_to_brs'] = 'false';
$init['forced_root_block'] = 'false';
return $init;
}
//add_filter( 'tiny_mce_before_init', 'tinymce_config' );
Only this plugin of yours solved the problem !
Your code must be inserted in the core, mr marcuspope !! It’s a must have!
I have no words to thank you for this plugin! I’d give you a million dollar if I could!

Worked fine ??

I tried some other plugins based on shortcodes, but they went too far and didn’t format linebreaks the way I wanted. Plus, they prevented other shortcodes from being processed.
This plugin was easy to install and required no changes to my code. All I had to do was use the Fix It Tools like the instructions said. A few mouse clicks later, everything looked perfect.
Now I can switch back and forth between the Visual and HTML tabs without losing any formatting. HTML that used to be stripped out is now preserved, and I can format everything exactly the way I want.
Marcus, thank you so much for this great plugin! I couldn’t ask for more.
