Why does this plugin force a margin-top style of 88px on the wrap
div ?
I had to get rid of it, but I don’t know why it was put there.
]]>I’d like the sidebar to take up less horizontal space than it does. At this point it is over 1/3 of the page. Is there a way to adjust the width?
Also, I’ve noticed that this plugin has not been tested with the latest version of WordPress. Is this plugin going to be updated? Or, should I start looking for an alternative?
Thanks.
]]>Hi Joachim,
Thank you for Content Aware Sidebars and Page Sidebar for Twenty-Seventeen; very useful.
At first I had confused the ability to have a sidebar on a given page with the creation of a sidebar widget that could then appear! Now I understand that the definition of new sidebar widgets is not what your plugin offers, and I have that sorted by using a new class wpcas_widget that extends WP_Widget in functions.php of the theme, which itself is a child of Twenty-Seventeen. I could publish here my simple example which allows the sidebar to list the post titles as links in place of the ubiquitous date-based blog archive list, if you think that would help others.
So far so good.
But my current problem is knowing how I can override the page template within the plugin, namely:
plugins/page-sidebar-for-twentyseventeen/templates/page.php
Normally I would expect that by creating a folder to match this within my child theme and copying page.php there, I would be able to override this page so as to make small tweaks to the default page, at:
themes/twentyseventeenchild/page-sidebar-for-twentyseventeen/templates/page.php
but this seems not to work.
Is the only way to create a new default template at the child theme level with (for example):
themes/twentyseventeenchild/page-newslug.php
…and then defining a new template within it. This would mean always having to select a template design for each page, even when it’s (like the majority) just a default page? This would not be very convenient! Do you have any suggestions?
I hope my explanation of the problem is adequate!
Regards,
John White
I can’t find where to set page layout to one column per your instructions.
On the customize page I only see the following options:
Site Identity
Colors
Header Media
Menus
Widgets
Homepage Settings
Additional CSS
Where is the Page Layout Option
The pages do have the sidebar with widgets but the title of the page is on the left and the content of the post including the images and videos are compressed to fit the available space.
]]>This plugin claims that Twenty Seventeen “has no way to display a sidebar on pages.”
If that’s true, I must have drawn the lucky straw. I’m using Twenty Seventeen on a site and since the site was upgraded to WP 5.0 (now 5.1), all pages display a sidebar by default, and there is no way to remove it on a per page basis.
I thought there used to be an option when editing a page, something in the page attributes, that allowed you to select the page type with options like ‘full width’, ‘no sidebar’, etc, but that definitely isn’t there now.
I have combed the web for an hour and can find nothing about anything to do with my problem. I’m completely confused by this.
I know this isn’t really a typical support question for this plugin, trust that I am only making this post out of last ditch desperation.
]]>Hi,
Thanks for your sidebar Widget. It resolved at least a part of my problem with 20/17 theme. But, actualy, I was hoping to have the sidebars of pages appear when used as homepage sections. Is there an easy way to make this happen ?
Cheers !

]]>On BuddyPress pages like Profile, Notifications and settings, the plugin does not work. These pages overrules the sidebar plugin, and put the sidebar widgets under the page content.

The plugin works like a dream!!!………………except that the widgets are not working: They show up but their function is “dead”, i.e. nothing happens. It doesn’t seem to be widget depending, as the very same widget/settings will work just fine on all pages/posts but the frontpage.
Thank you so much for any assistance with this.
Peter
