Can’t find anybody that can actually make OpenSearchServer do what it should do. Crawl and index a website….

My site has a lot of content that needs to be well-organised. So I needed a fast search engine (the WordPress one isn’t… reputed for that) that could handle facets, a non-trivial number of custom fields, dozens of categories, hundreds of tags, etc. for easy exploration of the content.

I’m quite happy with both the software and the support, it does feel like getting a professional solution for free.

Facets in particular are neat – it allows for extensive filtering based on multiple search criteria (say, all characters in the “Marvel” category with the “Atlantis” flag and a given custom field set to “Hero”).

Setup is very easy and the search options are very helpful. Searching is now very fast. Posted a question to support and had a response within a couple days. The author updated documentation following my question to make it more clear.

OSS (Opensearch server ) is one of the best web search engine. If you want your own web search engine try it! Good to understand SEO (internals).
