Sorry guys, I used to really like this plugin but for a long time now version 2 (yes, the free one) has not been compatible with Gutenberg. I was hoping for the updates but keeping the old editing console is starting to mess with my other plugins.
An the paid version is clearly too expansive.
I need to find an alternative now. Any idea?

We work now with MLP 3 (paid version) for 1,5 year and this is our experience.
The plugin does exactly what it should do. It works with WP Multisite and makes sure it does not mess around with WP itself. Every page, post, product has it’s copy in the other site that represents the other language.
Downsides:
– their support is terrifying slow, every reply starts at the root a great bureaucratic process. They don’t even look into it before you switch?off all other things, create test environments, give access to your site.
– it’s never their fault, sometimes after 11 messages and sending triple?proof they will accept their fault and then…. you have to wait for months before the fix will be implemented
– they do give you a quick fix but every time you update that fix will be gone until they implement it in the core
– woocommerce brands for example is not working out of the box, you need a fix file
– searching products was only available on title… not very need with 10k products, so we suggested?to also search for SKU… this took almost a year to process
– when you ask to be kept updated they do promise?but they always forget
– second line support can take up to two weeks
upside
– it still is the only good working multilingual plugin that does not mess around?with your load
– copying a new site when you have more than 1k products never worked for us, you have to manually copy the uploads folder, this took 7 weeks before they admited it and we lost a customer over it
Advice: be honost in your customer care and don’t play around. We know how hard it is to deliver, we are in the same business but just don’t promise things you can’t deliver or keep people just waiting. No is also an answer ??

Have to edit this one: error after error, I ignored it because it went on for a year and the site was still functional. But it became worse. No solution found and couldn’t enter my plugin page anymore, only when i deactivated the plugin. Okay, I still worked with the free version, but it hasn’t been updated for 4 years? I guess that would be the problem. Another thing is that allthough i deactivated the plugin en removed it. De 2nd site is still there..and it works with no problems….Magic or…. So sad that it had to be this way..

Great plugin for multilanguage e-commerce. Support staff responds very vast and provides excellent help!

Took a lot of time to configure things up and when I wanted to add new sites it simply didn’t work and the new sites created were all empty.
Waste of time!

The plugin is not compatible with WP 5.x and Gutenberg – unfortunately the support here is more than bad and only once in a while!

It its very frustrating after two months now not having WordPress 5 support and/or roadmap for MLP2 or MLP3 Lite. Updating to WordPress 5 with Gutenberg deactivated is as unattractive as to pay the high sum for MLP3 with no automatic upgrade of the MLP2 installation.

As version 3 is available now for a meager 199 € each year, this plug-in has probably reached its end of life for small and non-profit sites. It has become the most expensive plug-in in its field in a single step.
Okay, devs say there’d still be security updates to version 2. But until when? And most interesting: what in the end will be the reason given to abandon it completely?
(If only this wasn’t licensed as Open Source, so if you would’t need support, it’d still be free as in beer to fork or do whatever you wish with it.)
Sorry devs, but in my view, this was a very bold decision.

Multilingual Press 2.0 does not work properly. It does not translate your pages.
Please do not install Multisite in your WordPress with subdomains if you have a free SLL certificate like Let′s Encrypt and if your webhost only have that certificate on your mainsite but not your subsites like en.yoursite.com or fi.yoursite.com. Your visitors are coming to get warnings for a unsecure site when they visit the subpage. I deleated my subsites in WordPress multisite and everything krasched. My page lost it′s contact with the datatables So now is my host trying to restore my site to the date before I installed Multilingual Press 2.0 and multisite.

It work’s as it should and saves me a ton of time! Awesome plugin with an awesome support!

EDIT: have to downgrade the review. It was disappointing to hear late before the WP 5+Gutenberg Release the decision to not make free MLP2 compatible with this upgrade and introduce a costly MLP3 plugin which is not even able to update automatically from MLP2 sites. So this is very bad for existing MLP2 sites (especially non-profit and small) and in no way this plugin can be any longer suggested for new sites as long as no MLP3 Lite exists with at least the features of MLP2.
OLD review: Using this for over a year and I do not regret to have avoided the proprietary database changing Multilingual plugins which do not keep the sites working if deactivated.

Unlike many other multi-language plugins, this works perfectly, without all of them difficult interventions to get other plugins also working in more languages.
Good work and thanks for that!

The only proper way to do multilingual with Woo.

I’ve tried a lot of transition plugins .. all of those were just super intimidating to use and could not get the work done in any way.
I’ve been using this plugin for a couple of hours now and I must say that it is the best one ever!
Thanks to all of the developers and keep up the good work!

Stable and great solution. Thank you.
Using Multisite for multilanguage is the way to do it.

I have been using this plugin on 3 websites for many years now. Love it. And my customers love it, too! Multisite is a very good approach to realize multilingual websites because it’s very easy to use. Nothing new, no learning curve. Just switch to another WordPress instance and start translating!
Keep up the good work, guys! ??

Multilingualpress is powerfull and easy to use.
Thank you! ??

Not only this is the to-go solution for anyone who doesn’t want to risk depending on a proprietary plugin that could be discontinued and does unnecessary tricks with your tables.
I’ve been impressed with the helpfulness by the developer in the forum.
Kudos!

Jeder der versucht WordPress mehrsprachig zu machen sollte das Plugin ausprobieren, und wird dann mit gro?er Wahrscheinlichkeit dabei bleiben.
Habt ihr gro?artig gemacht und macht weiter so!

And the support is great, too !
Update 2019: Unfortunately I have to edit my review, because the way you deal with Gutenberg/WP 5.x is very frustrating. And the paid verison is much to expensive! So, at the moment it’s just one star, because you leave us in a really mess

I tried many plugins and approaches for building an effective multilingual site based on multisite wp. Many congrats for Multilingual Press!

I was looking for a way to make our website multilingual and finally made the decision to use this plugin since it supports the multisite approach for multilingual approach.
So far, everything works fine. I really like the fact that you see the different translation on one page – even though it is in fact a multisite.
I can totally recommend the plugin – not least because the (free) support is good and quick as well!

This is by far the best plugin if you want to support multiple languages in your blog. Use it and you will get a professional plugin “Mady in Germany”! ??

Very good plugin! I’m using it on a multisite install and it’s the best solution I’ve tested, after WPML (heavy) and Polylang (not multisite).

Would recommend this plugin to anyone looking to properly translate a WordPress multisite installation. It’s the fastest (best performing) plugin on the market for WordPress translation.

I’m using MLP everytime when multilingual versions of a website are required. This plugin runs stable and I never had any problems with it. So for me this piece of code is still the number one for multilingual websites.

Multilingualpress makes creating multi language sites on WordPress super easy. I am using it for over a year and it works like a charm- way better then WPML. What’s even better is their support (thanks Frank!) – very quick, competent and helpful.
