I had to manually configure 127.0.0.1 as Varnish IP on the plugin code, due Varnish listening on all interfaces, but that is indeed explained at the FAQ.

Once resolved, everything worked as expected (adding purge.vcl from lib folder at https://github.com/dreamhost/varnish-vcl-collection)
